(I think he's one of those poor unfortunate souls who can't tolerate anything too spicy without searing his poor little taste buds right off. He refuses to try the new Thai place down the road, and he won't touch wasabi. The spinach recipe isn't spicy at all in that sense, but better not to risk it.) Anyhow I'll need to buy spices and cheese, and today was a bit busy for that.
I went with the second suggestion for tonight, which I'm just going to quote:
I actually love spinach, and have been caramelizing onions (meaning, sauteing them in a tiny bit of olive oil and letting them go past clear and soft to honey-colored and densely aromatic, which takes about twenty to thirty minutes) and then dumping in some salt, pepper, and pounds of fresh spinach.
My onions were...let's say more carbonized than caramelized. Crispy around the edges. But still edible. I think it wouldn't be going too far to say tasty. For me, that's success on a par with Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. Even Lestrade said they were good, and he can actually cook.
Mrs Hudson had one taste. Her response: "Tastes like spinach, dear."
This was also Sherlock's first day back at school after Christmas. More on that tomorrow.

Mockery. All I get is mockery. My manhood is not related to my ability to set the inside of my mouth on fire, all right? The thing about food is that it's supposed to TASTE GOOD, not cause me pain.
John - Spinach and Feta Triangles.
1) Get some pre-made filo pastry
2) Blanch the spinach or cook with onions (or perhaps not?), season with salt and pepper
3) When cool, stir through enough feta to make it tasty
4) For each triangle, lay out two sheets of filo on top of each other (spray with spray oil between to get puffy pastry, as packet suggests) put a small amount of filling on, wrap up and bake.
Delicious. Get Sherlock to do the wrapping of the filling for extra fun!
Lestrade - no one mentioned your manhood! Also, you deserved it for that crack about me not being able to reach the top shelf at Sainsbury's. That's in my genes, nothing I can do. Your spice avoidance is just LACK OF WILLPOWER.
Anonymous - feta! Delicious. I think by "fun" you may mean "trauma" but we'll see how it goes!
Being rather averse to kitchens and cooking myself, I'm just going to throw the idea of a spinach salad out there. No heating or measuring required, and minimal opportunity for Sherlock to blow up the kitchen with it.
Alternately, if you can get pre-made pizza dough (or make your own?), spinach and feta cheese on it, with some salt to taste, is also quite good (and quick, and easy).
Anonymous #2 - oh, there have been spinach salads, believe me! And minimal opportunity for explosions is a quality I prize highly in my meals. The pizza sounds excellent! Perhaps the pizza shop on the corner would part with some dough...
I'm so honored to have been quoted! Good luck with the palak paneer!
