possibly turtles

If I've done this right, there will be a video of some turtles just under this sentence.

If I haven't...let me know, and I can add some pictures instead, but I'm through messing about with that video.

Today was mostly just walking, a search for Innie's cheese (we didn't find it), and a stop at Sherlock's school to see how the tadpoles are getting on (with permission this time). The turtles are not at Sherlock's school. He wanted to catch them and relocate them, but even if I'd approved of this idea, they were much too fast.

I find I'm missing L, even though he hasn't been gone anymore than usual this week. We don't have all that many lunches together, but I thought it'd be nice today and then remembered he's an hour and a half away and that wouldn't really work.

Mycroft's with his old tutor for a couple of hours, and Sherlock and I are just going to pick him up now. Want to leave us dinner suggestions?

Alas, no turtles. :( Turtles are my favorite animals of all time. <3

Chicken Parmesan for dinner? Or pasta with stuff and things?

Are you as surprised as I always am to find myself missing someone? It always seems...unexpected. Do y'all have plans for the weekend?

John H. D. Watson said...

Damn. Maybe I'll get Mycroft to look at the turtles later.

I am usually surprised, yeah. I expect it with Mycroft because we don't get to see him for months at a time, but this is different.

Miss you too. As much as everyone here would enjoy ice cream, no one is hanging off my ARM trying to drag me toward it, or bringing me sandwiches or asking me about technical aspects of the law. (i am asking others the last one though)

Desert Wanderer said...

That last comment makes me think you two are the perfect people to ask. Where does ice cream fall on the scale of hangover cures?

Hypothetically, of course...

Small Hobbit said...

DW - is this hypothetical ice cream or hypothetical hangover?

Desert Wanderer said...

Hypothetical hangover. Damn Polish Air Force. How was I supposed to know they measured their servings of alcohol in metric glugs?!

Greg Lestrade said...

ice cream wouldn't be high on my scale. too sweet, too much dairy.

Fry up, coffee, water and bloody mary would be high on mine. All together.

John H. D. Watson said...

Hypothetical hangovers are the hardest to cure. Especially those caused by any branch of the Polish armed forces. Personally I prefer astronomically hot curry to ice cream.

I'm always in awe of people who can eat full fry ups whilst they have a hangover, just the smell of food makes me heave! My method of coping is to just crawl into bed, curtains closed and commence a day of fasting, lol :)

And as for dinner suggestions, we're having Lamb Rogan Josh, can't wait! :D

John H. D. Watson said...

Oh that sounds good... Making it yourself?

Nony Mouse x said...

Nah, not entirely, the sauce is just one of those shop ones, we just add the lamb, courgettes and red onions to it :) Tastes really good though! I'd love to be able to do stuff like that from scratch but sadly I have no patience for cooking :\

John - at least it's the weekend now, the four of you can spend some quality time together before the boys go back to school. And perhaps you could arrange a date night for one night next week?

DW - I'd think ice cream if no other method of increasing your blood sugar is available. But otherwise, for me, it's ibuprofen, tea (lots of), a fry-up, and a nap if possible, and more tea. More generically, painkillers, rehydration and increase your blood sugar. Good luck with your hypothetical hangover.

My beloved is out for the evening, so I'm treating myself to a Chinese take out :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Date night does sound like a good idea, if Mrs H wouldn't mind Sherlock-and-degu-minding.

John H. D. Watson said...

That'd be lovely, yeah. I'll find somewhere and ask her.

Greg Lestrade said...

Lovely. You back at work? And physio? I shall ensure I'm more awake and.alert than of late.

My plan for dinner is an omelet with spinach, zucchini, and cheese. Quick, easy and healthy.

Rider said...

For me it's tea, and vegemite on toast. Sugar, tannic acid and Vitamin B.

I'm trying to get the man to suggest something because if I have my way Thom Yum and spring rolls would be on my list and the only place I want it from is the opposite side of town from here. Thom Yum is the only thing that sounds edible at the moment.

Maybe you guys could do pasta with spicy italian sausage? Saute an onion and a couple cloves of garlic in olive oil, add a can of chopped tomatoes, salt, pepper, chopped basil, chopped cooked italian sausage, then finish with about half a cup of heavy cream, simmer for about 15 minutes until nice and thick, toss with cooked penne pasta.

John H. D. Watson said...

You back at work?

Heh. Not until Mycroft's back at school. Which, he asks me to point out, is actually 22 April - he's got another week.

Greg Lestrade said...

...ah.

Sorry, Mycroft! I have no defence to offer. But I am pleased you're with us for longer.

John H. D. Watson said...

Right, with Mycroft's help there is now a video of turtles...but it's so small they're basically invisible. I thought you'd at least be able to see when the one jumps into the water, but no.

Maz - that sounds delicious! Maybe I'll try it on Monday.

pandabob said...

Well done Mycroft :-) shame it's so small but the fact you could even work out how to get it up is impressive to me :-)

Do you have much planned for the rest of your time with Mycroft at home John?

Hope you all have a weekend of fun planned.

maz, that sounds yummy. Dinner at yours tonight? ;)

Hi DW, SH, Nameless, and Pandabob! And to the blogger boys as well, of course! (SH, sounds like you have every reason to be proud of your kids!)

John, I'm sorry you weren't able to find gjetost - I guess that's one more thing for you to try when the four of you finally come to New York (along with, as previously promised, Brooklyn Blackout cupcakes the size of Sherlock's head and my homemade Indian food).

Tomorrow's our (Hindu) New Year (called Vishu), which was one of my favorite holidays to celebrate when I was little. The big thing is that the first thing you need to see is yourself (and therefore God, because God is in each of us) surrounded by auspicious objects. So when we were little, my mom would wake us up with her hand over our eyes and lead us carefully downstairs to the little prayer corner, where she'd set up a mirror and some money and cloth and spices. It made the whole day feel really special. So even though no one else counts it as an occasion, I hope the new year brings everyone on these blogs their best year yet!

Small Hobbit said...

Happy New Year innie. I hope today is indeed special for you.

John H. D. Watson said...

Innie - Happy new year! That sounds like a lovely tradition, and such a fun thing for your mum to do. Do you still celebrate - I mean, not the same way, that would difficult without your mum living with you obviously, but in general?

Greg Lestrade said...

That does sound great, Innie. John won't go for the mirrored ceiling I suggested though... ;)

I hope you have a fantastic year too.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. You don't want to be staring yourself in the face first thing every morning any more than I do!

Greg Lestrade said...

No, far rather look at your face than mine.

John H. D. Watson said...

And I'd much rather look at yours, so the current arrangement suits us pretty well.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well, you count as an auspicious object in my book :)

innie said...

OMG, boys, every time I think I couldn't be fonder of the two of you together, you raise the bar again. Though good for you, for beginning the year as you mean to go on!

I did celebrate this morning - I'd set up a mirror by my statues and paintings of the gods last night. I walked carefully with my eyes shut down the hall until I felt that I was in the right spot. And somehow it all worked: the mirror was angled just right and so the first thing I saw was me smiling at myself surrounded by all of these lovely idols, and I just felt very happy. (I used to tease that my eyesight was so bad that I could do this every morning, if my mom just left my glasses in the prayer corner - the gods would be the first thing I saw every day, but there's no denying that today felt special.)

(Thank you, SH!)

Greg Lestrade said...

That sounds incredibly well organised, Innie! Well done, and I'm glad it felt special, too.

Desert Wanderer said...

Well done, Innie. Happy new year! :D

John H. D. Watson said...

Innie - that's got to be an auspicious beginning to the year. :)

Sherlock said...

I got pictures of newts this time! I'm going to post them later!

pandabob said...

Newts Sherlock? I look forward to seeing those later :-) I saw something today that made me think of you so I hope you've had a really fun day :-)

Anonybob

Sherlock said...

What was it? I did have fun and it's not fair that I have to go to school but Lestrade let me ride on his shoulders.

pandabob said...

I never thought school was fair either Sherlock but you'll never get to rule the world if you don't get an education ;-) I think lestrade is a good man letting you ride on his shoulders it must slow him down a bit though!

I saw another sculpture today and I thought of you because it didn't have a sign saying you hadn't to climb on it and I could just imagine you hanging like a monkey from it, not that john and lestrade would let you, but the thought made me smile and hope you were having fun so glad you were :-)

Anonybob

Desert Wanderer said...

Did you try to get Lestrade to jump over any hedgerows or fences, Sherlock? ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm strictly flat, not over the fences.

Desert Wanderer said...

And your silks?

I dreamed about insomnia.

I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When days were fun and nights for sleeping
I dreamed that light would never come
I dreamed I’d be for ever snoring
Then I was young and unafraid
And life was full of fun and laughter
It did not come with shouts and sneers
It came with love and joy and cuddles

But the worries come at night
Like a rampage through the darkness
As they tear your brain apart
As they keep you from the silence

Soundly he sleeps here by my side
He doesn’t care about my darkness
He took away my chance to sleep
He stole away my peace and safety

But still some day I hope to be
Sound asleep and smiling madly
But now I know I’m never free
Insomnia will always claim me.

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I’m living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.

Anon, that's....stunning, really wonderful. Where have you been during Badger Album planning?! It definitely needs to go on our track list!

(Better night tonight, I hope?)

Greg Lestrade said...

That is brilliant, Anon.

pandabob said...

Guilty of refusing to put my name to it in the middle of the night sorry ;-)

And yes DW a bit better night :-)

Anonybob

pandabob said...

Just to clarify because it's worrying me!

Given the mood I was obviously in last night I thought if I put my name on the song people might start worrying it was something other than a blog related song about getting no sleep ;-) (the mind makes you think funny things at that time of the morning!!)

Glad you liked it anyway DW, Greg hope you slept/sleep well.

Anonybob, whatever your reason for posting anonimously (sorry too early to spell correctly) it's a lovely song and a great addition to the album.

And given the time of posting you clearly were having trouble sleeping, glad you did get some too. Not sure where I'm going with this comment, just to say we're here if you need us - we're very good even with an "aaargh" if that's all you want to say.

Brilliant, AnonyBob.
