It's your birthday, and you even remembered this year! Happy birthday, Gregory Martin Finchley Lestrade. I hope this card is accurate; I'm picturing you leaping on top of bars for your guitar solos when you played in your band.
I love you. It's funny, but every time I think I've got to some plateau on that front, you surprise and amaze me and I fall in love with you all over again, even more than before. Thank you for being here, for sharing your life with me, for being who you are.

Thank you. It's you that makes my life worth living. I love you.
I might have jumped on the odd bar or table top during my short lived rock career.
Sorry for being so grumpy lately.
Happy Birthday L.
Hope your work day passes swiftly and you're soon back where you belong. Have a great day!
Happy birthday, Lestrade!
I hope that you're feeling better this morning, that work is gentle with you, and that you have a wonderful rest of the day with your three wonderful boys, and let them spoil you rotten :-)
(The number of comments on your current blog post is too good to spoil :-p)
Happy birthday Greg I hope works behaves well for you and that your headache has gone away and left you in peace :-)
I'm going to leave this here and then wish you a quiet and perfect for you birthday :-)
The tune would be 'the whole wide world'
When he was a young boy
His life had doubt and fear
Still somehow he became the man
We all love to hear about here
He’s got a heart of gold
He’s got a heart of gold
And he’ll share it
Deciding to join the police force
And fight for what’s good and true
Making things safe for the human race because
nobody else has a clue
He’s got a heart of gold
He’s got a heart of gold
And he’ll share it
He’s got a heart of gold
He’s got a heart of gold
And John’ll take care of it
He’s got a heart of gold
He’s got a heart of gold
And he’ll share it
He’s just hanging around with Sherlock here
Exploring all the things you could think
Sometimes he dreams of a couple of sleepy days
But instead there’s coffee to drink
And then he’s out on his motorbike having fun
Sharing time just Mycroft and him
Riding around in the cool night air
Heading off out on a whim
He spends his whole day thinking of his dangerous doc
Caring for and loving him
He still finds it hard the other way around
But John’ll keep working on him
He’s got a heart of gold
He’s got a heart of gold
And he’ll share it
He’s got a heart of gold
He’s got a heart of gold
And John’ll take care of it
He’s got a heart of gold
He’s got a heart of gold
And he’ll share it
have a lovely day Greg :-)
Thanks Anony, that's really kind of you.
Oh pandabob thanks for doing that it must have taken ages! Sorry if you felt you had to after I asked but thanks and Lestrade seems to like it!
Happy birthday, Lestrade. Hope it's a great one!
Anonybob, another for the album!
(The number of comments on your current blog post is too good to spoil :-p)
Darn it. That's twice now I've spoiled it without noticing. :(
I couldn't have done that pandabob I don't know how you make the words fit the music nevermind manage to say such nice things as well
Happy birthday Lestrade, I find myself hoping a good song or a good spoiling will stop you feeling so grumpy :) Did Jess send her first card or are you not card kind of siblings?
HM
Happy Birthday Lestrade! Here's to many, many more of them!
Lancs. Anon
Another year gone Greg happy birthday hope you enjoy it with your loved ones.
Lestrade hates crime and injustice
He’ll fight it to his very last breath
But you know if you’re ever in Danger
He’ll happily beat you to death.
Happy birthday to you, L! Here's hoping you get off on time today, to have a lovely birthday afternoon and evening!!!
HM - not generally that sort of family. Although Nicky normally does. The suspicious lack of any cards so far either means everyone's forgotten, or John is hiding them all.
Anon - I assure you I wouldn't eat anyone to death, but I do appreciate the sentiment.
Thanks everyone. Just off home to be greeted by...well, who knows what, given those three boys!
Or indeed beat anyone to death.
Hurry up, we're going to the park!!!!
Lucky park!
Enjoy the park and the boys and the cake and a bit of Danger. Happy Birthday L.
My gorgeous boyfriend and two amazing boys have brought me to the park - with Mrs Hudson who decided to 'get a bit of sun', and oddly enough, we've bumped into Jo and Lisa, who happen to he here armed with a large camera, for taking family portraits, and cupcakes... what a terrific coincidence, John Hamish, hmmmmm?
What a lovely birthday gift!!! Have fun, all of you!
I might have some birthday cards here for you too...
John you are pretty amazing you know :-)
I'm guessing the weather is better there than here ;-)
A family portrait sounds like the best present a Lestallion could get for his birthday :-) Have a great time all of you.
RR - you're nearly right. He's an amazing birthday git.
We're all sitting in the little house that's part of the climbing frame now - waiting for this rain shower to pass.
Mrs Hudson has made an outrageous joke regarding my supposed silver fox status and fifty shades of grey.
Danger is, of course, to blame for giving her that book.
I deny all knowledge of how she might've got her hands on that book.
I treat your denial with the same scepticism as I did the other day when Sherlock denied knowing how the mayonnaise got in his shoe.
Hee! (Me, I believe both of them. It's more fun that way. :D)
Oh goodness, that book. The less said about it the better.
Buon compleanno, L, e tanti auguri! I hope that your day continues to be lovely.
Mrs Hudson could've bought it herself! In fact I maintain that she did buy it herself.
Sherlock just tried to fit an entire cupcake in his mouth at once.
And did it go in?
In a way...
:D
(It helps if you squish the cupcake down before inserting it in your mouth, Sherlock. Of course, it doesn't taste as good that way, and it certainly doesn't look as nice!)
It all went in. Then he started laughing and quite a lot came out and went into a dog.
I'm sure the dog was most pleased. :)
So...would you mind waiting till tomorrow for your cake? We did have cupcakes. And...it might've had an accident.
Happy Birthday Lestrade!
An accident because it was sooooo tasty it got eaten by a plague of Sherlocks*?
*in a kitchen environment one Sherlock is considered a plague owing to the damage it can cause.
If course I don't mind.
No, it was more of a squishy middle collapsing accident.
Thanks, love.
Happy birthday, Sir. Come back to us soon.
Cheers Sal. I will.
Danger - did Sherlock still eat it? He loves raw cake mix. Well, so do I, so can't blame him.
It all went in. Then he started laughing and quite a lot came out and went into a dog
I bet the dogs really miss Sherlock when they go back to school with Mycroft!
He ate some of the edges but not the middle part.
Anon - Mycroft gets annoyed at all the treats and tidbits the dogs get. It isn't good for them. But yes, the dogs doubtless miss it!
Danger, I'd still have eaten it and loved it!
You're not getting imperfect cake for your birthday! I'm going to get it right.
Ria - Grazie, siete molto gentile.
Danger - I was talking about your silver fox book, not THAT book! Although I still blame you. Don't distract me with cupcakes.
Any cake you made would be perfect.
It might've been too much with the cupcakes anyway. I'll do better tomorrow.
I still maintain that I gave Mrs H neither book. And neither Mrs H!
Tanti auguri, Greg (that's from Mr I - my Italian is dreadful), so Happy Birthday and you get cupcakes AND a cake tomorrow...I think you're all very lucky to have each other...
John, in my world a cake with a saggy middle just has more room for frosting or for a nice fruit filling. ;D
It sounds like an excellent birthday, however. I hope L gets enough sleep before tomorrow.

I'm so glad you're having a good day, Lestrade :-)
John - don't worry, that kind of cake accident happens to the best of us.
Anonybob - that's brilliant :-)
Anything that extends a birthday celebration is an excellent thing!
It sounds like you had the perfect family afternoon gentlemen :-) I hope the evening is following the same lines :-)
Thanks re the song thing people :-) anon I didn't feel I had to don't worry it provided nice thoughts to play with when I needed them :-)
DW - I'm sure the album's been shelved or is at least coverless ;-) nothing could ever compete with your 'my boring life' but I will keep trying :-)
Happy birthday Lestrade I hope you will be spoilt for many days yet!
your 'my boring life'
I had to go look that up. My how time flies.
Sounds like a perfect day, Lestrade. And a family portrait is a great gift.
We did a family portrait in the park a few years ago -- I must admit that my favorite part of the experience was all the extra pictures that happened around the formal sittings. All the shots that didn't go quite right, too, where someone was laughing or blinking or pulling a face. So I hope you've got more than one picture now to remind you of today for many years to come!
rsf
We did lots - no formal poses at all, just candid ones.
