Sherlock's taking me out tonight (any minute now...he's just putting a clean shirt on). I don't know what we're doing, it's a surprise. I'm...amazed, amused, and touched.
I was also amazed and touched by everything L did this week to look after me while I was ill. And occasionally amused. He claims still not to be able to taste things properly after trying that napalm soup he made me. It was perfect though. And he picked up Sherlock from school, entertained him, fed him, and still somehow managed to do his job.
As he said, I know there are single parents who have to do that all the time, and I have no idea how they manage. It's my actual job, and I still get a lot of help, from L and Mrs H and Anthea when she's here, and even the boys, now that they're more used to the concept of chores.
Right, time to go... Hope you all have a lovely evening. I'm sure I will.

Have a great evening, both of you.
Looking forward to hearing all about it.
What SH said :-)
Don't do anything I wouldn't do!... either of you :)
And I still can't taste properly! Still, just going to be a lonely meal for one for those of us without swanky dates to go on, so never mind ;)
It's one of your jobs John not the only one and you do it brilliantly :-)
Enjoy your date :-)
A swanky dinner would be wasted on someone who can't taste anything Greg you're right ;-)
Anonybob
Hope you're having a lovely time--I can't imagine it as anything else, to be honest. :)
Lestrade, you gave him your bank card??
Well I wasn't home in time to give him cash! And it doesn't create the right impression to have to get a pocket-money advance off your date to pay for the meal, does it??
Hope you're having fun. I've been for a run, am now making myself cauliflower cheese. Almost feel like a bachelor again...
*giggles* Oh, that's funny. I don't know if it'll be funny later, but it's funny now! :D
And mmmm, cauliflower cheese. Tasty.
Maz - it's a credit card I barely use, so the limit on it isn't very high! He can't show Danger too much of a good time ;)
Bachelor evenings are only fun Greg because you know they won't last all night :-) Glad you found something to clear your head and keep you busy ;-)
John I hope you are having fun and spending lots of Greg's money, I understand the going rate for bike washing is quite high so Sherlock should have plenty of money to spoil you with ;-)
Anonybob

You may be surprised...
Almost home. We got liquid nitrogen ice cream. :)
Almost home already? Christ! I better get all these people out, open the windows to air out the smoke, water down the spirits a little to make the bottles look full again...
Yeah, thought I'd better give you a warning...
And somehow, they're home just before the rain really kicks off again...
Sherlock, you are a true gent! Now I want to hear all the juicy details...
Rain? What rain? I would love a bit of rain here...
This may seem as trolling, but I honestly don't handle temperatures over 25°C well...
Sherlock, you have perfect timing!
I'm sure we'd all love to hear the details. I know I would!
I honestly don't handle temperatures over 25°C well
Don't come to New York in summer, CR! That's not infrequently the region of the low temp, in the wee hours of the morning.
I seriously think I should either get in the ocean somewhere around May and get out of the water near September.
Or somehow win a jackpot and buy a summer house on Iceland or Greenland or something...
CR while walking to school through the think fog and pouring rain this morning I found myself hoping never again to see temperatures of 25 degrees or above ;-)
I hope you got tidyed up in time Greg ;-)
How was your date John? should Greg be worried?
Anonybob
AnonyBob - I think I got away with it!!
And I am worried. Sherlock was very serious when we put him to bed, asking if he'd done everything right. :)
That is just the sweetest thing. :)
you have a cute one there :-) hope he sleeps well for you now and lies in for John in the morning, that will be doing 'everything' right :-)
We did have a long chat about things he could do in the morning that don't involve waking John up. Or at least, if it's just getting into bed and giving him a cuddle, doing it calmly and without any leaping or chattering or general ruckus. And at what time it's acceptable to want breakfast. (I've left him a banana in case he's starving and would die before John woke up, as he feared could be the case...
children starving to death before anyone gets out of bed to feed them is a very regular occurrence didn't you know ;-)
I love waking up every morning being elbowed in the back by a child with more nobbly bits than they should possibly have but not before 7 I'm an angry person if woken too early ;-)
Good planning, L! I can recall being starving in that way when I was close to Sherlock's age. It made staying in bed until 6:00 quite difficult. (I only see 6:00 am nowadays if I haven't been to sleep. :))
So where did Sherlock take you, John? Or does he want to tell the Internet himself?
AnonyBob - do all children have more nobbly bits than they should possibly have? Sherlock's knees and elbows are not only lethal, but laser-guided to the softest most vulnerable bits of me.
RR - Sherlock is always starving, it seems. Until he, at random, refuses to eat. I will never understand him, I'm sure.
All the ones I've ever met do Greg and that is quite few although I can't say all children ;-) the accuracy of the contact with pointy bits is what makes it hurt the most I think but they just want to get as close as possible which you can't realy be upset about can you? :-)
They grow out of it all too soon :-(
True, AnonyBob.
I can't believe how much the boys have grown since we met - how much they've changed.
And now John is fidgeting around in a way that tells me he wants to tell me to go to bed but thinks I'd think he was fussing... (Even though deep down he knows I quite like him fussing.) so I should go and pretend to sleep for a few hours.
I'm sure there's a logic behind it, L! (Sherlock's eating/not eating, that is.)
It's really quite a striking change, indeed, and all good . :)
G'night guys. :)
L - I can't help it!
And everyone else - I'll tell you tomorrow, I promise. Or Sherlock will.
I know.
Shhh now. And I'll try not to wake you too much when I go.
Your sandwich is in the fridge. And you can wake me if you want to. And please be careful.
I will, I promise (to the last one). I love you.
Thanks. I love you too.
I'm glad you're feeling more yourself, John, and no longer scraped raw and hurty. And Sherlock, it's lovely of you to give John an evening out with you to show him how glad you are that he's nearly all-the-way well.
Hope it goes your way, Lestrade. Keep your head down. :)
Sherlock, you are such a wonderful person. I can't wait to hear what you treated Doc to.
Thanks.
It's far too early and I don't want to leave my nice warm Danger-filled bed.
don't wat you to either
I second both your comments, DW. :)
How're your courses going?
"Far too early" ...yep, indeed. (I only just just got home!)
Best of luck, L--and I hope you're able to fall back asleep, John.
Stay safe Greg :-)
(you're right when you say its too early!!!)
Anonybob
I don't know many people who would trade Danger in bed for danger on the streets.
Swimmingly, RR, thanks. How're the allergies?
Good to hear! Alas, the pollen is--quite literally!--piling up on the sidewalks. I'm pinning my hopes on the showers promised for tonight and tomorrow. :)
Ahh, just catching up now.
CR - Happy Anniversary!
Jaws - Yay for surviving your exams. We're always here for a sanity-saving laugh (and cuddles, should you need them).
RR - Eeep! I hope your allergy meds kick in soon. =(
DW - *tackle-hugs* Hi! <3
Greg - Um, ballistic vest? I am concerned in a "I trust Greg to take care of himself" way. *pours you and your team good coffee* Good luck; I hope your raid is useful and nets the people you want to net.
John - I hope you're blissfully sleeping in.
Sherlock - If you're awake, John is asleep, and it's before 7am, perhaps you can wander over here and let us entertain you?
~A from NW
It's 7am right now. I wanted to hear Lestrade go but I didn't so he must have been very quiet. I've eaten my banana and read a whole chapter of a book.
Good job Sherlock :-) you're a very lovely lad you know :-)
Anonybob
John's awake and he just poured muesli into his tea not milk and even though they said they'd go to bed early they didn't because the were on here late.
Ah yes, the all purpose breakfast drink.
Have a good day at school Sherlock, did you find many puddles on the way?
And Doc and L - hope you both manage to stay dry. I'm about to see if I need the services of Mr Noah.
Poor John - I think I'd be doing the same if I'd been up at that time. I'm sure he liked having breakfast with you, though, Sherlock.
Lestrade - hope it's going OK.
Anyone else have thunder storms last night? I fell asleep to flashes of lightning and long rolling rumbles of thunder. Blissful.
I have to start lessons now and Lestrade hasn't commented and how long does a raid take anyway?
he'll be here when he can Sherlock try not to worry :-) Mrs T will let you check up later I'm sure :-) don't work too hard will you? :-)
Anonybob
Sherlock - raids can be unpredictable. And I suppose there will be paperwork to be filled out too...
L - yesterday two cops were in our tram. It got me thinking about the differences in otherwise very much similar cultures - even our traffic cops carry a gun. And a taser. And a telescopic baton. And I think I saw pepper sprays on their tool belts as well. It's like we're the Wild East or something... Anyroad, good luck dealing with all the stuff and I hope the worst thing today was getting out of your warm bed.
John - seriously, how do you manage to have muesli for breakfast? I have to be fully conscious in order to try and eat them. I do admire you, Danger, I really do...
Sherlock, what book were you reading earlier? I'd imagine the length of a raid depends on how many bad guys they catch. More bad guys means more paperwork, mor timee to process them properly, more time for interviews, etc.
Doc, I'm not a morning badger either. but I don't understand why you would make it worse with museli...
It's my muesli John has toast but John and Lestrade say its not real muesli because it tastes nice and isn't boring and it's not as good as Coco Pops but I'm only allowed them sometimes because they're too sugary John says and now it's first pastime and Lestrade STILL hasn't said anything and it's still raining so we have to be indoors.
Sherlock - makes sense about the toast :-) Thanks for explaining. Try not to worry too much about L, I am sure he'll let you know as soon as he can.
I'm not worried because he's the best but John was because it was raining and just because John worries about him because I think John always wants to go and help and I do too but John might be better at helping because he's bigger and he knows more about fighting and things.
He most certainly is the best Sherlock and that is sometimes why he is so busy :-) I can understand you and John wanting to help L and I'm sure there are lots of ways you can just not with the actual work bits :-)
Anonybob
he just poured muesli into his tea
I haven't done that, but last week I put the milk in the cupboard and was starting to put the cereal in the refrigerator before I realized what I was doing. :) (My cereal is also muesli-like but nice-tasting, Sherlock, it has little bits of dates and nuts in it.)
Very sensible reason for not worrying, Sherlock--and also, of course, if there was a reason to worry surely someone would have let you know before now. I expect, as has already been said, there might have been a lot of paperwork and processing to do after, or possibly meetings to go over what had happened.
Good job on feeding and entertaining yourself for so long this morning! I used to wake up very early when I was your age and it wasn't the easiest thing to be quiet when I wanted to talk to someone.
I hope the operation went as expected Greg and that you're not too tired after little sleep and a very early morning :-)
Hows work going with you John? enough sick people to keep you busy?
I hope school is being interesting Sherlock :-)
Anonybob
All this talk about muesli made me go and have look at our Czech mix-it muesli site. I have ordered a millet mash with dried and shock-freezed fruit, two different muesli mixes (I threw all I could find that calms down the nerves in it; I expect few not-so-pleasant days at work soon) and I also mixed up some fruit-and-nuts mix.
This badger is going to try muesli soon, like next week soon. I liked the way you can mix all the stuff up, it's really awesome to play with it :-)
See how far your influence can reach sometimes, Sherlock? :-)
Sorry Sherlock - I'm fine, it went well, five arrests, and as CR said, lots of work after that, searching the premises and then processing the arrests and interviews.
I didn't say anything - to anyone, including John - but this was my first time in charge of the HTF/TST raid, and I just didn't want to make a big thing about it. But it went well, and although I don't think I'll get rid of the adrenalin from my system for a bit - or get over the crash from it, one or the other - all the training stuck with me and...well, yeah, it couldn't have gone better, really. So thanks to all of you for the support when I was on the course.
what a star you are Greg :-)
Glad it went well, training is a wonderful thing :-)
Well done you!!
Anonybob
...and you can see who's been writing reports for too long.
HTF - homicide task force.
TST- Tactical Support Team. From CO19, who are the firearms unit.
Thanks, AnonyBob. Sort of nice to have got one out of the way.
Three cheers, L! *adds a few more for good measure*
Well done, L. No wonder you're relieved now you've done the first one. I'm sure the paperwork will help to take the edge off the adrenalin. And at least having such an early start gave you less time to worry about it (I guess).
L - I wasn't worried. Well, maybe a bit. I'm glad it went so well, and not at all surprised you did it brilliantly.
And what have you people got against muesli? I think it's nice.
Well I was worried :)
I should be back in time to pick up Sherlock from school with you, if nothing else comes my way workwise.
Nice one, L! Congrats on a job well done.
What's wrong with muesli? Far too much chewing, for one. It's not a food for the lazy. Also, I find it quite a heavy food on the stomach. Not a fan. Then again, I'm not really a fan of cereals, either.
Sherlock, hope you've had a good day at school. I'm dying to hear about the date night!
... almost leaving, but a baby has come my way, delaying me slightly....
Does that often happen to you?
A baby?
try not to drop it, it would ruin your good day ;-)
I think I said one of my ex-officers had a baby? She popped by.
Leaving now, be with you in time to fetch boy wonder.
Lestrade's being chatted up by one of the younger kids' mums... It's wrong of me to just watch and snicker while he tries to extricate himself isn't it? Heh.
Oh, I wouldn't say wrong... :D
It won't do his ego any harm will it John ;-)
fun to watch too I'd bet!
Doing my ego lots of harm! First my boyfriend goes on a date with someone else, then enjoys me being chatted up! Starting to worry... ;)
I hadn't looked at it like that ;-)
I don't think you'll get rid of him that easily though :-)
Besides, I feel sure that Sherlock would be most efficient at extricating you should you not manage it yourself, L!
Well done, Lestrade (and your team). They say the first one is the hardest.
L - congratulations! :-) Glad you're doing good.
John - I honestly dislike the taste of uncooked oats. That's why I decided to give the mixing site a try, you can choose whatever you want.
Gigglesnorting about L being chatted up. If he decides to grab a hold of you, John, and not letting you go, serves you right for not rescuing him ;-)
I just find it embarrassing when people flirt like that. It's so... obvious and sort of predatory!
CR - I get my oats however I can ;)
I must admit L that I hadn't noticed that you'd had a shortage of oats.
We wouldn't find it funny if a pretty young girl was getting attention she didn't want so we shouldn't find it funny when it happens to gorgeous young men either I guess.
I think there are a few females around here who would fight her for you anyway if you ever had a complete change of direction ;)
EBSanon
Ps glad today went well for you.
Predatory is unpleasant. :( Next time just grab John and give him a big kiss--that should deflect her!
Thanks EBSAnon - thats one of the points I make to people! I mean, I think I cann handle it okay now, but when I was a teenager I never knew what to do with myself - people thought I was the sort who'd be sleeping around, I suppose, so I had this reputation I'd definitely done nothing to deserve, and then girls who tried it on with me would always end up thinking I was some sort of bastard, but I couldn't tell them the real reason back then.
Whereas now I'm just a tired grey old copper who they probably feel sorry for :)
SH - Danger knows to keep a happy Lestallion you need plenty of oats :) (although 'plenty' now isnt what it once was! Especially after a three a.m. Start and then running around the park with Shortstuff.)
'tired grey old copper who they probably feel sorry for'
That's a joke right? do you have mirrors in your house?
Women tend to forget that men aren't all flattered by their attention and we also tend to forget that we can be quite intimidating sometimes!!!
EBSanon
I do at least know John or Sherlock would rescue me if I looked too worried!
And yes, we have mirrors that show me just how tired and grey i look! Still, John seems to like that sort of thing, so i cant worry much.
What you need to do is look at a mirror and at either John or Sherlock or Mycroft simultaneously. Bet "tired" and "grey" will not be the adjectives that leap to mind... :)
Not sure I have chameleon- eyes to look at two things at once.
Actually, usually I wonder why there's an old version of my dad in the mirror.
I was very proud of escaping the house without waking Sherlock this morning.
Sadly we all end up looking like our parents in the end :-( luckily it is the only part of turning into our parents that we have no control over :-)
You should be proud of yourself for lots of things today Greg I hope you're rewarding yourself in some way :-) Sherlock was a very good boy as well so maybe a joint treat ;-)
Anonybob
Not sure I have chameleon- eyes to look at two things at once.
Picky, picky... :D (Just ask John to tell you how you look, then. :))
