not good

I just got Sherlock to bed. It was a struggle tonight, but I expected it to be. He was up at least eight times between his bedtime and now, asking for anything and everything, but mostly asking if we could go to see Mycroft tomorrow.

Most of you will have seen it on L's blog, but there was a possible kidnapping at Mycroft's school today. Mycroft is fine, Anthea is fine, the dogs are fine. They're probably shedding all over L right now. He got the case - went there earlier today and hasn't been able to come home yet. Hopefully he'll get some sleep on Anthea's sofa, at least a few hours.

I hope the boy's all right. His parents must be terrified.

I'm glad Sherlock has settled eventually John, its hard when kids want to do exactly what you want to do and yet you have to explain to them why they can't.

Do you have plans to fill your evening? I hope you find a way to relax enough to get some rest.

Greg Lestrade said...

nowhere near shedding dogs yet.

Anth gave me a key. don't think I'm brave enough to creep into a house with her and two dogs in though, even if I got the chance.

His parents are, yeah.

hope SHerlock's settled now, poor kid.

miss you.

How awful for the boy and his family. I hope Greg and his team can sort it all quickly and bring him back.

I know Sherlock is excited by it all and wanting to get involved, but it's so nice that under all that he cares for his big brother and wants to make sure he's ok.

Hope you're all back together very soon and it'll be nice to have Mycroft home for the weekend to make everyone feel better.

John H. D. Watson said...

L - I miss you too. Call me if you get a chance?

Greg Lestrade said...

will do.

and... don't wait up. I honestly don't think I'll be hom before tomrrow, earliest.

Piplover said...

That poor family. I hope the boy is all right and you find him soon.

John H. D. Watson said...

I sort of thought not, by the way things were going. Good luck, love.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks.

Good luck with Sherlock, too. And tell him thanks for wanting to help, it is very kind of him. It just doesn't quite work like that.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'll tell him. He knows that, really...he just hates it. Which is understandable. I wish I could help too.

Greg Lestrade said...

I know

Greg Lestrade said...

Going to get my head down for an jour if I can

Joolz said...

Hope you managed to get a bit of hair-free sleep, Greg, and good luck today, hope you manage to get the boy back quickly and safely.

Good luck with Sherlock, John, and try to keep yourself busy and distracted, though I know saying don't worry never stops anyone.

Small Hobbit said...

Wishing all of you the best for today. Hope you have positive news soon.

Anthea said...

I think he was here for around 2 hours, in which time he managed to sleep, eat and shower.

The mood around school today is rather subdued.

pandabob said...

Thanks for the update Anthea, its an awful situation that I really hope is resolved with the best outcome very soon.

Greg Lestrade said...

It's progressing , slowly, but it is progressing. I have a lot of hope

pandabob said...

I'm glad things are looking hopeful Greg. Good luck with it all.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks.

Going to have to get home for a change of clothes and more sleep at some point, but I hate leaving when we're getting somewhere.

John H. D. Watson said...

I can bring you clothes if you like, but unfortunately I can't bring you sleep.

Greg Lestrade said...

Fairly sure I couldn't be trusted to dress myself right now I'm so tired.

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, I can imagine.

Anon Without A Name said...

Glad to hear that your hopeful, and able to make some progress; I'm trying not to imagine what the poor lad and his parents must be going through.

I hope you manage to get some sleep soon, Lestrade.

Mycroft - I hope and your friends are OK, and not too disturbed by the whole situation.

Greg Lestrade said...

Sal's back at 4. Going to come home. But I have to be back for 9.30 absolute latest.

pandabob said...

I hope the time at home gives you the chance to just stop for a few minutes Greg before you have to wash, change, eat raw coffee and get back to it.

John H. D. Watson said...

He's sleeping. Sherlock and I are making dinner, quietly.

Sherlock said...

He didn't even tell us barely anything and he hugged us really hard and John says that's because he's glad to see us and we're going to make a great dinner and anyway maybe they'll get the boy back now so he won't have to go out again.

John H. D. Watson said...

I hope that's what happens. And I'm sure L does too.

pandabob said...

I bet he was pleased to see you Sherlock and hugs from those you love are always good for helping people feel better.

I hope they find the boy really soon Sherlock because it must be awful for his parents but also because however wonderfully you, John, Mycroft and Lestrade appear to be handling the situation I want you all to be together at home as soon as possible :-)

Enjoy your dinner.

Sally said...

I promise we're trying our best to find him Sherlock. Well done for cooking the boss dinner. He'll appreciate it.

Sherlock said...

Hi Sally I asked john if I could send you biscuits when Lestrade went back and he said you might rather have sandwiches, do you?

Sally said...

Never turn down a cup of tea or an offer of food when you're working a case, Sherlock. Thought Lestrade would have taught you that! We'd all love some sandwiches. We're getting school dinners otherwise.

Tell John it's very kind of him to offer, and your offer of biscuits is very kind too.

Mycroft said...

If you were going to drop Lestrade off when he comes back, it would be nice to see you, John.

But don't worry if Lestrade was going to drive himself back.

John H. D. Watson said...

I think we csn mansge that . Id like to see you to. Should be fsirly soob. Sorry mu autocorrect has problems

Anonymous said...

Hope is always a thing to have. I'm glad there's that. Best of luck, lestrade and Sally.

John--you know you can correct your own mistypes as well, right? ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm sending them to find you, Mycroft. Please ensure Sherlock is kept on a leash.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ella - I was walking and typing at the same time. I would've only made them worse.

We have found Mycroft. Sherlock is asking him a million questions and not giving him time to answer any of them.

Greg Lestrade said...

if anyone's got any answers they can send them to me on a postcard.

or something a bit faster.

Anonymous said...

Ahh, that makes sense. I'm glad you're all together.

Ella

pandabob said...

I'm glad you and Sherlock have been able to get over to spend some time with Mycroft John. :-)

I think we all wish we could help Greg! hopefully the answer will come very soon.

Greg Lestrade said...

I know you do. John's been virtually exploding with the desire to help. Only stopped by his equal desire to persuade Sherlock not to help ;)

We're still...getting there. It's delicate.

John H. D. Watson said...

He searched Mycroft's room for clues. Fortunately, there weren't any.

Greg Lestrade said...

Good. You home? He asleep? Sorry I'm not there.

John H. D. Watson said...

It's all right, love. Please don't worry about it. Home, yeah. Asleep...not quite. I said he could read in bed for a while. He needs some time to calm down.

Greg Lestrade said...

I thought he might still be wide awake. You okay? You got work? I forgot to even ask.

Sorry. Nothing like talking to parents missing their kid to make you want to be with your own family. Obviously after finding theirs.

John H. D. Watson said...

Nothing to be sorry for. We wish you were here too, obviously, but they need you more right now.

Work tomorrow, yeah, day shift. Sherlock's mum says she'll pick him up from school and get Mycroft too if I can't. I'm glad. I wouldn't want to leave Sherlock with Mrs Hudson when he's like this.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah. I know he doesn't like this sort of disruption.

Maybe I'll end up needing you.

John H. D. Watson said...

You never know, I suppose. I certainly wouldn't mind another chance to see you.

Greg Lestrade said...

Not sure I'd be very professional, if it meant we'd found him, needed you to wrap it all up. Think I'd end up asleep on your shoulder drooling or something.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. Don't worry, I wouldn't tell anyone.

Greg Lestrade said...

Feels like half the Met is here to see.

Well, here when they're just milling about. No one around when I need a couple of officers to go and check something out.

Feel like my head might actually explode with keeping track of everything.

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, I can imagine. My medical opinion is that your head probably won't actually explode, but I do hope you can get some more rest soon.

Greg Lestrade said...

I know if it does Sherlock has dibs on the splattered results.

I can probably snatch an hour or so in one of the cars if nothing happens.

Are those E-cigrattes better than normal ones? I mean, I know they must be. They just nicotine without the tar?

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, some of them. I think they make ones without nicotine too that just look like cigarettes and...give you something to put in your mouth I suppose?

Greg Lestrade said...

one of my officers is using them to quit.

bloody tempting to join him though.

But i won't. Can only imagine it will make me want a real cigarette, so no point.

John H. D. Watson said...

Hope you're doing all right. I love you.

my phone just suggested I hope you're 'dong all right'...I suppose I hope that too?

Greg Lestrade said...

Sorry, yeah, been busy. For good reasons.

Could sleep on my feet.

Joolz said...

Hope those 'good reasons' will lead you to a quick and happy result, Greg, and that you are able to get some sleep afterwards. Best of luck.

Hope you don't get too many call outs today, John, but if one is to Harrow, I hope it's for a good outcome and a warm welcome from your other half.

Hope you're all back together soon, you must all miss each other and with a case like this everyone will want to be with their family. It'll be nice for the boys if they do get to see their Mum too, I'm sure she feels just as bad as you guys. Good luck all round.

pandabob said...

Good reasons sounds positive Greg

Good luck at work John and enjoy the time with your mum Sherlock :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Everything is so so delicate. And stressed people don't make the best decisions, so a complete balancing act going on now

pandabob said...

It sounds like a very tricky situation Greg, hopefully it will be resolved soon and the outcome will be the best it can be.

Olli said...

I hate the time difference here sometimes--or I tell myself I'm going to set down the comments thread and not look for a day, but that never works.

Greg, the e-cigarettes taste funny, don't give the same kind of hit, and are definitely not worth your time. I am not going to tell you to go for the real stuff instead (bc John and Nicky would kill me, as I'm sure would the boys, and they'd be correct) but if it's a choice between not smoking at all and smoking real cigarettes, the electronic crap should be your distant third choice.

(relurking now)

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm off. Got a call to west London... Sherlock I except you not to see this until after school, right? And your mum will pick you up, please be good for her.

Greg Lestrade said...

I know a Lovdly DI in west london waiting for an FME.

But west London is a big place. You might not be going to him.

John H. D. Watson said...

True...I might be, though. You never know your luck.

Greg Lestrade said...

Everyone here feeling pretty lucky right now. Only thing that would be better is you arriving on your bike to check us all out.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm here...ish. You want to meet me, or shall I show my ID to about 17 people as usual? Oh never mind, Sally's found me

Greg Lestrade said...

Good. Now I've sat down I'm not sure I can move again.

Olli said...

Greg, tell us you found him--the student--and that he's okay?? I know John probably can't talk about his patient. If it's him at all. Drat. (this is why I should be stepping away)

Go be really good at your jobs. Kraft och omtanke to you both.

John H. D. Watson said...

You don't have to, not for a while anyway. Drink some water. The amount of coffee you've had in the last 24 hours would probably be lethal for some people.

pandabob said...

I hope this means what we all want it to mean.

Good luck guys and have fun with your mum Sherlock.

Greg Lestrade said...

We have found him. He is really remarkably well, considering. And uninsured . Although naturally a bit traumatised. But not hurt.

Which is more than can be said for some criminals and officers.

Greg Lestrade said...

Uninjured not uninsured.

Anonymous said...

Hooray! Fantastic job, everyone.

Ella

Greg Lestrade said...

Thank you.

And yes, coffee felt like it might have been a bit much at times. Felt distinctly shit this morning.

John H. D. Watson said...

You did it though. And everyone's all right.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah. Very proud of the whole team.

Someone was just lamenting that you were wearing a wedding ring ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. Must be the motorcycle.

Greg Lestrade said...

Think you'll find it's the caring bedside manner, charm and good looks.

I mean, it's a BMW. Can't be that ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

My BMW definitely has charm and good looks.

Anon Without A Name said...

Oh, fantastic news, excellent result! Lestrade, I hope none of your officers are badly hurt?

Greg Lestrade said...

but not a caring bedside manner.

Just got a text from Sherlock demanding we go home and I sleep so I'm interesting later when he's back.

Greg Lestrade said...

Nameless - nothing serious. Bruises and scrapes. I got a nice bruise on my jaw from narrowly avoiding a headbutt. Few black eyes etc. but no one's feeling any pain after such a good result.

As usual, all about money, it seems. crazy crazy world we live in.

Small Hobbit said...

Great result, no wonder no-one's feeling the pain of the bruises. And I suspect that your FME will kiss the bruise on your chin better later.

John H. D. Watson said...

Only his though, the rest of them are on their own ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

look at the time...I can drive Mycroft and me home, if you bike back. I need someone to pinch me to keep me awake or I'll end up parking up a tree.

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, I'll get takeaway. Anything you want particularly?

Joolz said...

Oh that's brilliant, well done to everyone. nice to have a happy outcome for your first case working together.

It's great that you'll all be together tonight, I'm sure you could all use some well deserved family time & much needed sleep. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

SOmething soft enough to act as a pillow, but not wet so I'd drown in it, or one of your curries that would stain me bright orange or something. :)

Mycroft said...

Lestrade had written that and left it, unsent, on his mobile phone.

He has also nearly fallen asleep at two sets of traffic lights.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. Well, I've got pizza and garlic bread. Hope that's all right with everyone.

Unknown said...

whew! like Ollie I've been checking the updates whenever I get a chance. Glad to hear everyone is ok and home safe and sound.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'll do a bit of a post later, if I survive John pouring water down my throat (still stuck in that knackered-yet-caffeinated cycle. It's helping.)

Olli said...

Take your time, Greg--we just wanted to hear "he's okay". This one got to me a little.

Mycroft--why weren't you driving??

Olli said...

Erm, I just checked the driving laws, never mind.

But still.

Greg Lestrade said...

Got to us all I think.

And yeah, roll on the day Mycroft can drive! I'm sure he'll enjoy the freedom.
