snakes etc

Wawrinka is two sets up on (Andy) Murray in the US Open. I'm not even sure what to think about that.

In non-tennis news, I'm back to work tomorrow night, 7pm to 7am. Going by previous Friday nights, I expect the forecast to be light drugs with occasional heavy drinking and stupid fights that, in the end, have no identifiable cause.

Dr Feelgood emailed to say congratulations, so apparently he's reading the blogs. Also that it's time for a meeting to discuss how the job's going and so he can look over my files - until the six months are up, it's his job to make sure I'm keeping proper records, with the kind of information needed for court cases, not just normal medical records. So we'll do that later in the week, hopefully when Sherlock's at school.

I keep my file cabinet locked, for obvious reasons, whose initials are SH. If he asks, it's also booby-trapped and magically warded. And full of snakes.

He'll want to get in it MORE now!

yay for back at work John :-D

What does Dr Feelgood think of his blog name given he's reading? ;-)

Hang on, just consoling the Doc now Murray's been knocked out...

Sherlock said...

N'night Sherlock :-)

Anonybob - I told him his nickname months ago. I'm hoping it'll catch on ;)

L - you're right, what was I thinking?

pandabob said...

I'm sure he'll love you forever if it does John ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

He's pretty good at not searching through things he knows he shouldn't.

I'll try to get home early tomorrow. Sherlock wants to make cinnamon buns.

John H. D. Watson said...

Cinnamon buns and you home early both sound lovely. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

well, let's hope you don't get called out, and get a bun hot out of the oven ;)

I think Sherlock wants to perfect them for Mycroft's next visit home, to show how clever he is. Probably get in trouble for telling the blog now - he'd hate anyone to think he had to practice!

John H. D. Watson said...

Perish the thought! I'm sure he'll do great after a few tries. That cake was delicious.

Cinnamon buns do take practice. I still haven't mastered keeping the filling from oozing out, or leaving them alone long enough to really rise.

PIssing down with rain and I feel like what brains I have are making a break for freedom through my skull. Fantastic Friday.

pandabob said...

oh dear :-(

I guess summer is gone now and monsoon season has started!

I hope you feel better soon.

John, do you try for day time sleep before a Friday night on call? I'm being nosey I know but how people cope with working, or possibly working, overnight always interests me.

I think Friday is having an effect all round. I put petrol in my car, paid for it and walked back to the car, to realise I had left my keys in the kiosk. At least I couldn't have got far without them!

Greg Lestrade said...

Ever filled up and then realised you've got no wallet?

Done that a few times...

pandabob said...

We once managed to fill the diesel minibus with Petrol, strangely though we did remember to pay ;-)

I hope you're day is going well Greg and that you and Sherlock are having fun even though its wet John :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

it is now sunny, inbeteen ominous clouds.

i've gone back to wishing for overcast and grey

John H. D. Watson said...

Anonybob - depends on the day, but I don't usually bother trying to sleep, no. Might be different if it was more than one night, or if I knew for certain I'd get a late call, but as it is, it doesn't seem worth it.

L - how's your head?

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm ok. You two?

John H. D. Watson said...

Not bad. Tired already though (me, not Sherlock obviously). Maybe I should've tried for a nap after all.

Greg Lestrade said...

You're welcome to nap when I get back, fi you want. Youll only miss Sherlock telling dough it's not behaving properly

John H. D. Watson said...

Nah. Can't miss that :)

Sherlock said...

Come on

Greg Lestrade said...

Patience! I'm just down the street.

Greg Lestrade said...

...can I just put Sherlock in the oven? He's covered in dough and sugar...

Joolz said...

How is the dough disciplining going? Have you finished the cinnamon buns yet, Sherlock.

I hope you have a good night, John, with not too many call outs and nothing too awful for the ones you do get.

Greg Lestrade said...

He's...getting there. I'm not allowed to help. Until he needs me to help. Nor am I allowed to give advice. Until it is asked for. Which is usually about 2 seconds before he needs help...

...I spent half an hour sitting in court waiting for the defense attorneys before realizing that I was in the wrong courtroom- wrong courthouse even. (Fortunately the judge was later than I was, so I didn't get in trouble!)

Hope your shift goes well John. :)

I dunno if this falls into y'all's lines of interest at all, but it looks like Battersea Power Station is finally going away. They're letting the public have a look at it one last time...

I'm glad the baking is providing entertainment, Friday nights are a good time for baking things, it gives you all weekend to enjoy eating them :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

well... slightly late, but Sherlock's cinnamon buns look good!

John H. D. Watson said...

Lindentreeisle - thanks! and ha, glad the judge was late.

Ella - that does look interesting.

Andddd, I'm off. Do I get to take a cinnamon bun with me?

Greg Lestrade said...

I'll wrap you one in foil - they're still hot!

Take care. Love you. Don't burn your tongue.

Good luck, John. I hope it's not too exasperating/heartbreaking/distressing.

Would anyone like to guess how hard it is to put Sherlock to bed when a. cinnamon buns are fresh out of the oven. b. John's just leaving on a call c. It's Friday, so he has the 'there's no school' argument d. I've got a migraine.

Oh dear. I'm going to say, on a scale of one to ten, it's right around "Can't I just run barefoot across Dartmoor again?".

Appeal to his better nature, it normally works with mine when I'm ill.

Sorry you're still feeling ill :-(

Greg Lestrade said...

I've just told him he has to stay in his room and not to anything that might cause the emergency services to be called.

pandabob said...

I hope he does as he's told :-)

What's your plan for healing your head or just for passing the tine until John's home?

I thought Battersea was on some kind of historic building list... but I guess that isn't necessarily any protection. is it going to be demolished, or any of it saved? I guess I'm glad now for the films it's been featured in, that will always be a peek inside (especially for those of us across the pond)

It's being redeveloped. I think the article was about the last chance to look inside at what an old power station looked like.

Unknown said...

ok, whew. I'd be sad if it was being demolished.
There are a lot of lovely old 19th c. brick factory buildings all over New England, and thankfully many of them are being given new life as offices, apartments, artists' studios, etc. Battersea is such a great art deco period pile, I can imagine it would make a very chic apartment building!

I think it's going to look like this:

or so they say.
