loose ends

The meeting with Mrs Holmes today was very short. She gave me a package, had me memorise an address, I took the package there, and that was that. I got the feeling that wasn't what she'd called me in for, actually, that I was filling in for someone who hadn't shown up just because I happened to be there.

Bit odd. But I'd rather be the one filling in than the one who didn't show up. Hope he escapes with his life when she gets hold of him.

I did also get her to sign off on Sherlock's martial arts lessons while I was there, so that's ready to go when he is. Maybe another week or two. he's still complaining about things being different at school. He says they have better books in the new classroom though, so that's something.

We made avocado and tomato pasta for dinner. Basically, you cut up tomatoes and avocados, mix them with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper, and basil, and then when the pasta's done you drain it and put it in the bowl with the stuff and mix it around. Very easy.

After dinner, Sherlock said everything was too quiet and stood on the sofa to see how loud he could make his violin be. Quite loud, it turns out.

It is indeed quite loud. He's just proved to me, and the rest of the street.

I hope it was a joyful noise. Or at least a cheering-up one. :)

That dinner sounds easy enough for even me, though tonight I'll be having leftovers.

Sometimes a loud joyful noise is exactly what's needed assuming there's no migraines in the house before hand. Is he missing Mycroft and the dogs and all the extra chaos he got to have all summer? Not that I imagine Mycroft is inherently loud, but more people adds noise whether you want it to or not.

kholly - yeah, and L wasn't home yet when I wrote that, and I was trying to be normal and cheerful and probably not doing that well at it.

Sorry. I wish...wish a lot of things. Wish I had a better way of coping that didn't make you feel bad.

Sherlock definitely got joy out of being loud.

Almost anything that adds to the sum total of joy in the world I'm in favor of! Maybe Sherlock could take a quick trip over to New York and play really loudly for me, too. :)

L - it's not your fault. I should've told you where I was going earlier, instead of just running off. Didn't mean to make your day worse.

REReader said...

John, if that wasn't what she'd wanted to see you about, won't she want to see you again?

You honestly don't have to tell me - I'm not your keeper. You're a grown man, and have proven more than once that you're capable of taking care of yourself. I'm just being silly.

You never make my days worse, not on balance.

Tomato and avocado pasta sounds seriously good.

I'm never quite sure what to make of Mrs H (which is presumably exactly the effect she intends to have). Do you think this was a one off, or are you likely to be couriering for her again?

John H. D. Watson said...

Nameless - I have, as is usual when she's involved, absolutely no idea.

Canned tomatoes, no lemon juice, and as it turned out after I'd mixed things together, no pasta. But it's good on toast, too.

I do love experiments.

I wonder what Mrs. H had in mind before her courier bailed. I don't expect to find out, though.

L, I hope at the next election you get a government that appreciates you and reinstates those pensions. That's just plain mean, cutting off people like that. And I'm suspicious of the idea of bringing in outsiders for the higher management jobs. Sounds like a recipe for patronage positions and not helpful in the least. (We have some of the problem. I'd wager that of the dozen or more people we hired because the mayor recommended them, only three have really been assets to the organization.)

Well...you'd think that now you've put it in the blog, she wouldn't. But then again, she might, on the assumption that anyone trying to find something she's having couriered would assume she wouldn't use you again, now you've blogged it. Or...you could carry that logic on forever, couldn't you. :D
