paper microscopes

So...that's pretty amazing, right? Sherlock wants one, obviously, despite already having a microscope. He wants one he can carry with him everywhere. I told him I thought other people probably needed them more.

Got an invitation today to a friend's wedding - Spence, I think I've mentioned him here before, thought it was some time ago. I also got a phone call from him.

S: Are you bringing that policeman of yours?

Me: Why?

S: Because I think Jenna's [the bride] mother has a record and she'd probably on the run and he should arrest her on sight. Maybe her father too. And my brother. He might need back up.

Turns out he wanted to elope. I'm not surprised. This is a man who doesn't just dislike his own family but more or less the entire concept of family. I'm a bit shocked he's getting married.   Police intervention may be necessary though. Murray will be there, and there's an open bar.

I'm not getting involved. The army can sort out that mess.

Anyway, I'm Sherlock's policeman, not yours ;)

Wise, I think.

Greg Lestrade said...

I take it we're going then?

John H. D. Watson said...

I was planning on it, yeah. You don't have to of course.

Greg Lestrade said...

I like meeting your friends.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm glad :) I guess we're going then! It's in August.

Those microscopes are pretty cool. And it makes me feel like how many of the world's problems could be solved if we just put our collective energies in the right places.

That microscope is awesome! Reminds me a bit of those little pin viewers we did as school kids when a solar eclipse came overheard. But much cooler.

Sorry I haven't been around much this week, been dealing with a PTSD flareup. Guess I've physically recovered enough for that to throw down. Yay?

Ya know Becca, I say, NOT yay. Though I commend your positive spin. Hope you have tools that work for you, somewhat, anyway. Hope good sleep happens tonight.

Sorry to hear that Becca. Hope you can work through it okay.

KHolly - yeah, it's very sad so many people would rather line their own pockets than help others.

I saw a great thing the other day about a lady who invented a rolling water carrier. Not only did it mean people could fetch more water with less effort, but she'd also built in a device to charge phones or other items by harnessing power from the rolling part. Luckily she was getting funding for it.

We've got Mycroft and we're going home now but maybe later we can come and you can have a break from work and buy us cake or we can come to a crime scene and see a dead body.

Greg Lestrade said...

You can come over any time now, kiddo. Back in the office a bit.

Joolz said...

I'm assuming you met up for the break from work & cake part of that request and not the crime scene & dead body aspect, much as Sherlock would probably have wished otherwise. ;)

Greg & Murray together plus an open bar - are you sure you'll survive the night, John, I fear you will leave it secret-less. ;)

How lovely to have Mycroft home for the bank holiday & for you all to be off together for it. Have a great weekend. :)

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm hoping everyone will focus on the groom's embarrassing past, not mine! It is his day after all.

Sherlock has simple wants, after all. Cake or ice cream or crime scenes with dead bodies. An occasional loft bed mega-complex. ;-D

Enjoy the days off, fantastic Mycroft can be there, hope you get some nice weather.

Im sure I can find time for some embarrassing stories about you

Anonymous said...

Be careful...I'm pretty sure that statement goes both directions.

Greg Lestrade said...

Ella - I'm pretty sure he knows everything embarrassing there is to know about me. Or definitely the worst stuff

Sherlock said...

We're going for a walk I'm going to look for bugs and frogs and animal tracks and poo

Joolz said...

I'm sure you'll be an excellent tracker, Sherlock. Do you think you'll be able to work out which animals leave which poos and what specifically they have eaten to create it. Have you travelled out into the countryside for your walk of discovery or are you in your local park. Hope you all have a fun day anyway. :)

Sherlock said...

We're out in the country and it's better than the park.

Greg Lestrade said...

Perfect weather. Woodlands. Sun. Dogs. Husband. Kids. :) :) :)

Kids and dogs running amok…

Greg Lestrade said...

Shall we run amok too? Seems like we should. I enjoy running amok with you :)

REReader said...

Trying to make us all jealous? ;)

Have a lovely rest of the day!

John H. D. Watson said...

We definitely should. In fact, we should run amok more often.

Greg Lestrade said...

I have run amok... And then been tackled by a dog, brought down in a heap. And Sherlock and my husband can't stop laughing.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like many amoks have been successfully run. :)

My husband has bought me a pint as penance for his laughter

As if his laughter weren't its own reward!

Sounds like a lovely day.

It was fantastic. Really good. I feel very lucky that these boys - old and young - have adopted me into their lives :) today was just about perfect.

It's really good that you know when you're suited, that you appreciate what you've got, so many people don't. Hope your good day has continued into being a good evening.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks. It was all great. And now I'm wide awake. Not so good.

REReader said...

Oh, dear--it seems dreadfully unfair to have insomnia when you had all that fresh air and exercise, seeing as "they" always say that's how to avoid it!

Anonymous said...

Hope you (& anyone else up who doesn't need to be) have dozed off again. Or are using the time in a gently entertaining manner and can get a lie in this morning.

I went and stuck my headphones on and played guitar until Maf came to swipe at my hand. Then we both went back to bed.

pandabob said...

That sounds like a great way to relax Greg :-) do you have lots planned today or will you get a bit of rest to compensate for wakefulness?

Greg Lestrade said...

Certain small people have my life planned for me - and they don't include naps!

pandabob said...

I thought that might be the case ;-) good luck with whatever he has planned.

Greg Lestrade said...

We have all managed to consume a large ice cream...before lunch!

REReader said...

That is how you know it's a holiday!

Sherlock said...

I had cherry and cream and Lestrade had peanut butter and salted caramel and Mycroft had pear and Stilton and John had hazelnut.

REReader said...

Oh, wow! Now I want ice cream....

Anonymous said...

That is one sophisticated range of ice cream flavors! You certainly do know how to have a holiday in style.

A good day to all, even those who are working!

fA

pandabob said...

I'm jealous of your ice cream, it's not really ice cream weather up here but I could still enjoy some right now :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

It's turning a little un-ice-cream-like here now... so just as well we've already had it ;) (Although Sherlock will state there's no such thing).

We've been out, we've eaten, we've planted things at the allotment, we've felt guilty that small seedling haven't been watered enough...all in a day's work.

REReader said...

I'm sorry the weather turned on you, but it sounds like a very nice day was had, all in all!

Unknown said...

oh, now I want ice cream too.
I had a wonderful weekend, the weather was NOT rainy after all, or at least not when we needed it to not be! Good dancing, singing, food, hanging out with friends, etc. The May has been Brought In. :) However, soon I will need to try to start the mower and go after the shaggy bits of the lawn...

Perspective on how good my life is. Elena Baltacha's died of cancer at 30. (Top women's tennis player just a couple of years ago.) Not in a war zone, not from a cruel but quick accident. When a young person dies a lingering death from a cruel disease it seems unfair as well as sad. Despite the fact that it does happen, continuously.

Ya know, I apologize. This blog is celebrating a lovely few days, shouldn't have inserted my moaning just because nobody in the room with me here knows or cares about women's tennis, and I know a few blog readers seem to follow it.

fA

Becca said...

I follow tennis intensely fA, both women's and mens. I saw the news about Elena and was horrified.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'd heard as well. I've been thinking about it on and off. It really is terribly sad.

Greg Lestrade said...

fA - It's been headline news here - both when it was made public about her diagnosis and the terribly sad news that she had died. I don't think you need to know or care about tennis to feel the tragedy of such young life lost.

Anonymous said...

Makes sense it was bigger news there, as she was a British player. You really only heard the news hear if you follow tennis. Thanks for being kind about my hijacking into your blog comments a little bit.
