Well...we're a on a ship. Sherlock and I and Mrs N and another teacher and roughly one million small children. The sound really bounces around in here when they shriek. As they do when Sherlock insists on telling gruesome pirate stories just before bedtime and acting them out by trying to jump on people like an animated skeleton would. After I put a stop to that for the third time, Mrs N came by to tell me she was so glad I'd decided to come along...ha.
In theory, they're sleeping now. In reality, they're talking in what they think are quiet whispers that adults can't hear, and they're mistaken. Which makes me wonder with some amount of paranoia just how much my parents and teachers chose to ignore when I was younger.
Glad I'm here though. It is fairly warm and slightly dank with a vaguely peculiar smell, but still - we're sleeping in a ship.

Lestrade was making lots of noise, and Mrs Hudson came up to complain. Then she saw Lestrade and his power tools, and she is still here...

We had roasted Monkefish wrapped in pancetta. They definitely did not have teeth in their throats when we ate them.

It is true there is no single bed time, as the watch system aboard ships would be in action. We are fast approaching 'Middle Watch', I believe.

We had pizza. It was pretty good until someone threw a piece of pepperoni to see if it would work like a frisbee. I had to get cheese out of a little girl's hair.

We thought we'd lost Maf earlier. She was asleep in a wrinkle of the beanbag.
We found a second hand bunk bed thing on Gumtree, not too far away. We went and collected it (Anthea fended off traffic wardens as we loaded. Possibly only with the power of her gaze.) It needed...modifying. Still does, a bit.

Lestrade with power tools, yeah, if I was in Mrs. Hudson's shoes I think I'd stick around to watch too. :) Sounds like Sherlock will have a really awesome room to come home to!
John, I'm impressed that you were able to make a new blog post from ship board, in between de-cheesing hair, putting skeletal hands to rest, etc. What an amazingly cool class trip. and yeah, if it was my kid there, you'd have to beat me off with a stick from being a chaperone. That was definitely one of the big perks of being self employed and working at home during the school years, I got to go on some great field trips.

I am impressed there are only 3 adults to manage so many very bright children. I chaperoned high school students on a number of 2 to 5 day trips, and we were 1 chaperone to 12 - 14 students. (Which was a bit of overkill most of the time. Except for when it wasn't. Because then it REALLY wasn't.

I got a brew and did some reading. I'm usually up etween 5 and half past, so it didn't seem too early. Just different, with no expectation of Sherlock demanding an outlandish breakfast or anything. Maf gave me the evil eye, for interrupting one of her 23 hours of sleep...
Anyway, the boys are back home now, it's the usualy chaos again :)
My room is the best there's a climbing net and a den and it's purple and the bed is black and it's all mine.

It really wasn't much. We picked up the bed and Mycroft helped build it, then I put up a rail and got some curtains and the bean bag. This morning I put in a shelf and did the cargo net. He hasn't mentioned the old bed, still stacked in bits or the rest of the chaos I still need to tidy.
We've had bunk beds, so I know it's not just building it, as the thing takes a lot of its structural strength from the lower bed frame--that involved some re-engineering! I love the idea of a curtained space, with a shelf. And the net. And the beanbag... :)
It wasn't really bunk beds - I'm still unsure if they have one name, I've seen them referred to as bunks, lofts, high beds etc. It's kind of like this, but more open at the bottom - the shelf is at one end, not all the way along:

But it has that style of steps, for us oldies to get up and change his bedding, and the cargo net up the other end, for the more agile creatures amongst us.
And, you forgot in your list of differences, Sherlock's is BLACK! (It's a seriously awesome space. :))
John and I are both yawning like the tops of our heads are going to fall off.
Sherlock is making some form of...degu thing out of ropes. Energetically. Maf is very much not helping by trying to catch the ends of the rope.
Sherlock, how was the night on the boat? Will you give us a report? (If you can tear yourself away from your bed!)
Perhaps Sherlock is making a degu equivalent of a climbing net for them? It would only be fair!
I'm sure you'll get a report in the end - as long as nothing too distracting happens in the meantime.
Apparently, at some late hour, Sherlock starting telling people all about various bodies I've told him have been fished out of the river... John to the rescue. Again.

What can possibly go wrong with Savlon cream that it goes out of date??
Generally with medical stuff they s say it could lose potency, just not work as well--is that right, John?or is it something more dangerous, or nothing?
(I had to look up Savlon cream, I never heard of it before.)
That is a seriously impressive bed. Daughter wanted to trade up from a bunk bed to a loft, but now her dog sleeps on the bottom bunk so she's changed her tune. (Also, she doesn't have the sort of adults who will build stairs, so she's stuck changing her own sheets)
John has made me discard the 7 years out of date antiseptic cream (which clearly moved in with me, not with him!) But not until after I'd used some.
If my hand falls off tomorrow, we'll know who to blame.
Kestrel - it was luck, really. Someone in South London was selling it! Otherwise it would've been a trip to Ikea or something.

If I remember 8-ish years old correctly, it will run 2 or 3 to 1 as to how many will be fascinated by your knowledge of picking bodies out of the river vs. horrified. (I would have been too shy to ask about it, but I'd have stared at you unblinkingly, in hopes that the subject would come up spontaneously.)
My son had a loft bed, with side curtains and a mattress underneath, but no fancy stairs or rope ladders or shelves. (And what there was took me most of an afternoon to assemble.) He'd have been quite jealous.

Seems like 4am is my body's new wake up time. Which is annoying.
Particularly if you don't get to bed till way after midnight. Maybe Maf can manage to communicate some sleeping tips.
I do want your boys to figure out how to bend time so we can stay up till 2, get up at 5, and still get a solid 7 hours of sleep. I love both ends of the day, but seeing them both regularly is not practical.
With that fantasy, I'm going to bed, as it's closing in on 1, here.

I roused the troops! You should have all the ones from this household now :) So difficult to choose this time...will Brazil have had all the fight beaten out of them? Or will they be so determined after that last hammering that they'll pull off some sort of come-back? Will, given the fact it's a nothing match, the Netherlands just give in, and go easy on Brazil by fielding a team with no real bite? Who knows!
I think there'll be a red card in the final.

I too really like staying up late, there is something about the middle of the night that feels like "my time"... and then especially in the summer I want to be up in the cool early morning to get the yard work done, since I can't handle being out in the sun when it's hot.

When the boat used to go to sea and have people on it all the time they had a cat and it had a hammock but now it's just a stuffed cat to show you.
I'd say a red card In the final was a good call Greg and as for calling how Brazil will play I think the last match told us all we need to know about how totally unpredictable that team is!!
Did the stuffed cat look like Maf Sherlock? Don't you think it must have been odd for a cat to be stuck on a boat for months at a time? It must have been strange for people as well I guess.

Lovely day, we've been to the park, we've had ice cream, we've made a fruit salad with odd fruits. We've even been allowed to get a coffee, made by Barista Mycroft. And very nice it was too. So...tomorrow Mycroft is off work, and I'm going back. Although I may do a half day and bring most a forest-worth of paper home with me.
