Dear Mrs Hudson and Amy,
I will not be knitting anything at all, thank you! I know how you knitting people are with the peer pressure. You should've seen my grandmother trying to get Harry into it. It was like she was trying to get her to join a cult. No, despite the many jumpers and scarves I could (probably fail to) make, I think I'll steer clear of this particular hobby.
I still think I need a job and somehow I sense that L isn't serious about taking me to work with him - I'd probably just end up doing his paperwork anyway while he went out and did all the fun stuff. Volunteer work. Or maybe I'll write a book.
Although the knitted skeleton is pretty cool.
Sincerely,
John
In poll news, large amounts of votes seem to have suddenly disappeared. Practical Magi was leading at 63 last time I looked and now it's down in the 30s. Hm. Blogger doesn't seem to have quite sorted out all their problems yet.
The armoured jeans I got look pretty much like jeans with kneepads, but I will show you the boots.
They're probably overkill, but I do like them.

Why don't you write a book? You could fictionalize the tale of how you came to be nanny to the two smartest boys in the world and how a handsome DI entered your life. You know, to make it more plausible.
I'd have to - it's unbelievable right from the start, even before the killer hounds and the criminal gang.
Oh yes, write a book! I'd buy it and read it and write papers on it. :)
mmmm knitting
come to the dark side.... we have cookies - also yarn!!
I bet you'd have all kinds of incredible stories for a book!
And those boots are hot. Between the boots and the links to the really swank underwear, I'm finding all kinds of fun things to buy for my husband. Who knew? :)
Those are some serious-looking boots. Definitely Dangerous!
Jesus, now I'm going to think about Danger in boots and underpants. I blame Orio's DIY outfit.
You could write a book. Maybe one of short stories. Or you could maybe volunteer teach first aid or something. Though, you'd probably be bored silly with that one.
Maybe you could write murder mysteries for the young and the brilliant?
TTFN,
Bronwyn
Fair enough! :D
Love the boots by the way - very BAMF.
And if you write a book, we'll all read it!
I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with the English medical system so I'm thinking in U.S. terms. Here a lot of places would love to have a doctor come in a few hours a week, especially clinics for the poor. Might be good to keep your hand in, for when the boys are older. Maybe something where you could work with veterans-or would that be too soon?

Oh, yeah-the boots are totally action hero. I showed them to my husband.
"What do you think of these?"
"Very...manly."
"Not for *me.* If you should by chance get a pair of boots like that, I would not mind at all." *eyebrow waggle*
He has taken it under advisement. They would also be great as part of a steampunk outfit, so another thing in their favor.
~one_traveller again
Come on, give in!
Also - handknit wool socks are the warmest and most comfortable you will ever wear. Truly - once you try a pair you will never go back to commercially made ones.
OH MY GOD THOSE BOOTS. I want to make sweet, sensual love to them. They are amazing.
Nice choice, is what I'm saying.
I can confirm (and probably cause everyone to hate me whilst going so) that he does look very lovely in his new boots and jeans. And we've ordered the jacket, so it should be here in the next day or so too. He is a stunning gorgeous man.
Mazarin, glad we're providing a service. Danger, you could become a personal shopper.
Oh yes, the yarn cultists. I definitely know what you're talking about. In college, all of my friends started crocheting at the same time, and the house was covered with yarn. And heaven help you if you called it knitting a couple of times...wonderful people, but you can't help seeming a bit criminally insane with a pair of deadly-looking needles.
Those boots are gorgeous. :D Though it's really not surprising I think so, given that I've been drooling over these: http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w[0]=gender%3Amen&w[1]=attribute%3ABoot&pp=2&view=detail&p=26&colourID=2430 for at least six months now. *wistful sigh*
Danger, I'm going to nip home and get ready, then I shall pick you up at about half seven. Dress is pretty casual for the place I've booked. I'll probably wear jeans and a shirt or something.
L - Excellent, can't wait.
I leave the choice of underwear up to you. sadly the poll won't decide in time.
Well, I did vote for none of the above, even if I thought it was about your underwear at the time.
Given that it was mine, i might oblige...
This evening is looking better and better.
I would remind you it's customary to eat at restaurants before leaving to rip you date's clothes off. But I know your obsession with my eating habits. Just remember, if you don't finish mains you don't get dessert
I'm finding that more of a threat tonight than I normally might...
So you should.
Feel free to wear your new boots, too.
Sal is clearly reading this. She's smirking at me from her desk. Get back to work, Sergeant!
I'm not the one commenting on my boyfriend's blog, Sir!
You should get going if you're to make yourself presentable and get to John's on time.
Have a nice evening, John. The boss has been walking around grinning like a lunatic all day.
Have a lovely time tonight guys. And I promise that none of us at all will be thinking about John's pants or Lestrade going commando all night. Honest :-p
PS - I covet those boots.
PPS - Your spam filter suggested "deper". Just saying.
I do understand it's probably very bad form to blog when on a date...but John's nipped to the toilet, and I just have to tell you what a lucky bastard I am.
Sitting here with some very nice wine and a very very nice boyfriend. Who looks stunning.
This may be heaven.
I've been working so much it only just occurred to me what day it is. And then I thought oh we won't be hearing from the boys tonight. You're not supposed to prove me wrong. Though you did just leave me with a warm mental image so thanks for that.
I doubt if you'll see this until after the date, but I hope you both had a thoroughly wonderful time. ;-)
Thank you. We did. Or I did, and I hope Danger did too!
Have just been woken by an alarm clock with no snooze button. Called Sherlock. He even got as far as jumping on us before Danger noticed him. And he's not an easy bloke to sneak up on. Although I'm not surprised he was tired...
Glad you guys had a nice date. :D
As aggravating as it can be, enjoy the days of the unsnoozable alarm clocks. They have this nasty habit of growing up. (Which is good, but I miss my little boy, too.)
In ten years, if he's anything like my nephews, you won't be able to get him out of bed with a crow bar.
It was nice, along with his insistence we both walked him to school. A vast contrast to last week.
Except I got completely collared by his teacher, and have somehow agreed to go in on Friday next week to talk to his class (barring any murders cancelling my day off.),
You're hoping for a murder to cancel your day off, aren't you?
Never. Well, not really. Wouldn't say no to an emergency briefing or something though.
Actually, I think I know what I might do with them. Finally.
Excellent! Going to share?
Depends. I mean, if a certain person was to volunteer to be my glamorous assistant, then he would need to know...
Otherwise, it might be mine and Sherlock's secret.
By the way, keep meaning to ask, from a doc's point of view, should nightshift include a meal? Or do you stick to the usual ones, and not eat overnight. What's better?
I realize this may be a somewhat foreign concept, but if you're hungry you should eat something. If you're up doing things all night, your body will need more fuel than if it were sleeping.
Do you need a glamorous assistant? How about just an assistant? That seems more realistic.
Does it follow that if I'm not hungry, I shouldn't eat? Generally I'm too busy to notice. I don't not eat on purpose. I love food, as you know.
Didn't think I'd be able to stop you glamming up with some Sparkles.
But I suppose just an assisstant would be acceptable. Will you come and hold my hand? I mean, help me out?
(would also like to point out that I was 'up doing things all night' last night. But you never suggested stopping for a midnight snack...)
Generally I'm too busy to notice.
That's what I meant really. Ideally you should pay more attention to how your body feels in general - hungry, tired, shaking from massive caffeine overdose, etc. I know it's not always possible and you can't always eat or sleep when you like, but just in general listening to what your body's trying to tell you is a good thing.
Short answer: if you're up all night, yes, you should eat.
Sure, I'll come along. I'd like to see what you've got planned. Not going to saw me in half, are you?
I'm assuming you expect a certain level of self-censoring when listening and acting on what my body wants...given the effect you have on me, and it often being unwise or illegal to act upon it there and then...
I thought I'd do fingerprinting and take a variety of different surfaces to take them from. And some other stuff, too. Maybe a bit of PowerPoint about other forensics.
...Maybe I should've said what it needs. Yeah.
I think they'll love it.
Actually, can't you do a short lesson on the basics of forensics and than set up a crime-scene in which John is the dead body and the kids need to figure out what forensics they should apply? Sherlock could be the evil mastermind murderer, which would both keep him amused and from being a know it all.
The teacher would rather I steered clear of actual murders, and just focussed on general crime and the apprehension of criminals. I've got a few activities set up, and Sherlock's never actually done fingerprinting, even if he knows how it works. I suspect they all know the basics. They're terrifyingly bright.
