stop that

Mycroft's back to school with bat biscuits of various flavours. Sherlock was excited enough about the app he and Mycroft put on L's phone to not be too sad about it. He actually told Mycroft he'd miss him, which was...astonishing. Usually it's 'I hate you and your stupid school!' which means the same thing of course, but I've never heard him actually say it.

So far L's app has told him to 'stop that', 'ask Sally to do it', 'kiss John' (I approve), and 'stop shouting at the television', among others. It has eerily good timing. When it told him to stop shouting at the television, he'd just told off Brian Cox for having silly hair. Not really shouting, but still...pretty good for a presumably non-sentient app.

And here's this:

The Northern Lights Route
The road from Muonio to Kilpisjarvi in Finnish Lapland is known locally as the "Northern Lights Route".

If you click on the picture, it should take you to the photographer's flickr page. There are a lot of other really beautiful photos there. I'd like to drive that road someday.

Those are stunningly gorgeous photos--thank you for linking, John.

(And that's lovely, about Sherlock. :))

Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between hating (or liking) a feeling and hating (or liking) what is 'causing' the feeling. Being able to do that, and speak that truth clearly, is an important skill!

One which fails me utterly when faced with those incredible photos.

I'll add to the chorus of "gorgeous." Makes me want to go there -- I've never actually seen the Northern lights with my own eyes yet.

Lestrade's new app sounds like a lovely present -- I'm glad Mycroft got Sherlock to help him with it, too. They're really both pretty thoughtful boys.

Aww, Sherlock. I think it's wonderful how much their relationship changed for the better since you two came to their lives.

Greg Lestrade said...

Mycroft, I'm disappointed the app didn't tell me to go back to bed this morning - which is what I was hoping for.

Sherlock is gleefully making me ask it everything

Small Hobbit said...

If Mycroft had created an app that said that we'd all want one!

pandabob said...

those boys will be a force to be reckoned with as they get older if they stick together!

I'm sorry your app didn't say what it should have this morning Greg but I'm sure it will be very useful as the day goes on :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

It just said 'drink more coffee' -I approve!

REReader said...

Best app ever!

Mycroft said...

Don't be silly, it'll only tell you to go back to bed on your days off.

L - do you want to get coffee after I pick up Sherlock?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, sounds good. Mum got moved to the care home place. Nicky says its nice enough, which is good.

John H. D. Watson said...

That is good. Are you going to go and see her again?

Greg Lestrade said...

I feel rude when I don't answer you here because I've answered you face to face. Yeah, hope to see her sometime soon. Be good to check out this new place, make sure it's okay.

Thanks for coffee, it was good. Needed a break

REReader said...

Hey, Sherlock, how are you liking your new mittens? Do they work better than the regular kind?

Sherlock said...

They're okay it isn't very cold at the moment so I didn't wear them today and I get them dirty when I keep them on to look at things.

REReader said...

Not very cold is good (it's been VERY cold here!), but not so good for testing mittens, of course. Getting dirty is okay if they get dirty on the outside since John can wash them, but not so great if they get dirty on the hand-side. Hmm.

Greg Lestrade said...

let's face it, kid, everything you wear gets dirty within about 30 seconds of meeting the outdoor world.

Those photos are gorgeous, thanks for the link! I highly recommend visiting northern Lapland, the nature and sceneries there can be breathtakingly beautiful. And I think Sherlock would approve with the amount of snow :)

Have to warn you though, having driven that road several times, it doesn't always come with northern lights like that. They are not an everyday occurence even there. But oh so beautiful if you are lucky enough to see them!

Btw, in Finnish northern lights are called "revontulet", which litterally translated means ”fox's fires”. So most appropriate for all silver foxes and their loved ones :)

Hi Vivi - do you think you could bike that road/general area? Seems like that might be a pretty amazing way to see the place. And that's a great translation ;)

Kestrel337 said...

It's true that things get dirty, Sherlock. My youngest daughter's teacher watched her walk through all the semi-frozen slushy muck on her way into the building and commented on her 'conducting investigations' constantly. He was right; she wanted to know if the different substances felt different and made different tracks when you walked on them. Laundry isn't much fun, but I'm glad to have that evidence of healthy and inquisitive minds! Mostly.

Yeah, I think biking there would be great (though pretty cold in the winter... brrr...). Quite long distances, but I imagine that is kind of the point of biking trips, and bigger roads are good. For the absolutely best places you have to ski/hike up to the fells though :)

That sounds like it would be pretty amazing too.

Good morning, to those for whom it is morning! Since I'm not sleeping, I thought I'd share this, since it is amusing me quite a lot: Write an essay they said

(Of course, it is almost 1am. YMMV. :))

REReader said...

I'm hoping all the quiet is because everyone is having an enjoyably busy day... :)

Greg Lestrade said...

Court tomorrow, so yeah, bit busy checking on witnesses and stuff

REReader said...

That doesn't sound particularly enjoyable, but it does sound very necessary. Hope it all goes well!

Greg Lestrade said...

It's not so bad. Beats picking over a corpse.

You just have to read people, put them at ease and reassure them. Talk about what's going to happen, that sort of thing. Just about empathy and stuff I guess.

pandabob said...

The part of the job you were made for I would say Greg :-)

REReader said...

It's not so bad. Beats picking over a corpse.

Definitely no argument there! (And just what I was thinking, Anony! :))

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks :) very kind of you to say so AnonyBob

REReader said...

John, Sherlock--did you two have a good day?

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger, need a doc and an ice pack ( or just some sympathy, probably)

Was trying to be all youthful and bound up stairs two at a time... Twisted my knee, now feel even older:)

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm sorry, love. Do you want a ride home as well?

pandabob said...

That doesn't sound good Greg, its a good job you have a fantastic doctor on hand to look after you :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

It's nothing John can't kiss better, I'm sure. It's been a bit dodgy since the crash. Serve me right for trying to be all dynamic ;)

Danger, I can get home - only hurts when I don't put weight on it, weirdly.

REReader said...

Ouch! Hope it settles down again quickly.

John H. D. Watson said...

All right. We'll be waiting with ice packs and dinner. And instructions for Sherlock not to jump on you.

Greg Lestrade said...

It honestly probably doesn't need an ice pack, just your best healing 'kiss better'.

zeph said...

Mhh yeah dodgy body parts, the kind that are still connected to your body, are no fun. I managed to hurt my back while doing nothing. So I'll spend my 25th birthday on bedrest (which I'm ignoring when it comes to work). I feel so much older than I am at the moment.

John H. D. Watson said...

Zeph - I'm sorry, that's not a fun way to spend your birthday. I hope you feel better soon.

L - it doesn't look that bad, but try to avoid chasing down criminals tomorrow if at all possible?

Greg Lestrade said...

Zeph, sorry to hear that. Take it easy - but not so easy you seize up!

Sadly I probably feel exactly as old as I am - I just don't want to be this old!

Danger - will you write me a note for court, telling the judge if anyone does a runner I don't have to give chase :)

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha, absolutely. Or you can just show him your app... 'Ask Sally to do it'...

Greg Lestrade said...

It told me to 'grit your teeth and keep smiling' after I did it. Very apt - although maybe not medically sound...

John H. D. Watson said...

Heh. Very Mycroft though.

Greg Lestrade said...

It is a glimpse into Mycroft's mind... although ...there are flashes of SHerlock in there too.

Did I tell you what it said when I asked it if I should go to a meeting with my DCI?

John H. D. Watson said...

Uh oh...what?

Greg Lestrade said...

COVER IT IN GLITTER!

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha! That is...wonderful. If you cover him in glitter, please take a picture...

REReader said...

LOL! (It really is the best app EVER! :D)

Anonymous said...

what other questions do you ask the app? and do you ever do as it says?

Greg Lestrade said...

err...when it says 'drink more coffee' I take it very seriously. And 'Kiss John'.

The rest, not so much ;)

I ask it things when I remember to! Not all the time, though, I'd worry people might think I was going a bit barmy...

pandabob said...

Those are the important ones Greg

The app might come in useful for times when you don't know what to do or what to say ;-)

hows the knee?
