I seem to have ended up mostly with pictures of the food, which I'm sure won't surprise any of you. The amount of cheese was... Well, this is only a fraction of it.

Sherlock was very excited about the swords, about getting to hold one, about them cutting the cake with one...pretty sure the swords were his favourite bit. Or the number of people around who were prepared to have mock pirate battles with him using sticks or forks or in one case pieces of cheese.
There was also a bouncy castle, which we did not get kicked out of. I really thought we might, but honestly there were more adults than kids in it. If you define 'adult' purely in terms of age. It was Spence's idea. I'm not at all surprised. Even Mycroft went in with us for a bit.
I think both he and Sherlock danced more than we did. There were a number of girls around Mycroft's age who asked him, and Sherlock asked...nearly everyone I think? And danced by himself when no partner was forthcoming.
And now...it's our anniversary. Seems like quite a nice way to spend it, and I admit I'm very glad L got home in time. No anniversary is ideal when spent apart, but particularly the first one - that didn't seem quite fair. Life isn't, of course, but as Sherlock says: well it should be!

Sherlock and I walk up to the bouncy castle. We both start removing our shoes.
Lady whose very young daughter is bouncing, speaking to Sherlock "oh, you're old enough to go on your own arent you? You don't need your dad with you!"
Sherlock "yes I'm old enough to go on MY own but he's too old to go without me so I have to do it with him"

honestly, he's growing up fast, and can wrap people around his finger - I'm not sure it's going to end well!!
(He has managed to blag a bunch of flowers from the tables as it is - now sitting on our table. I mean, they'rebeautiful, and it's lovely to have them...but how does he do it??)
We have been out and let the dogs and the Sherlock run around. He's finally getting over the jitters.
the stilton cheese was bigger than my whole head. And there were bottles of bubbles to blow that were the shape of champagne and it was fun and there was a real live band outside as well as other music too and I like dancing.
Can't argue with you there, Sherlock--dancing is my favorite thing about weddings. (Of course, I've never been to a wedding with swords or bouncy castles or bubbles...)

Sherlock is, thankfully, a bit sleepy! Although still telling me that we're going to have the best holiday ever next week. This week. Wherever we are with days.
there was a bouncy castle climbing frame thing at a wedding I went to a while ago and I got seriously disapproving looks from people for letting my kids climb all over it in their bridesmaid dresses but they'd been good through HOURS of photos and there were still speeches to go so it seemed only fair :-D

We should have brought Maftet and the degus too. It's not fair the dogs get holidays.
Maf's keeping mrs H company. And Mrs H has expressed a desire to never, ever, go camping.
I think cats prefer sleeping in a warm indoor place to camping, Sherlock--and I'm sure the degus prefer their nice home, so even though I'm sure they miss you (and vice versa), it's kinder to leave them behind.
Besides, you can have a more adventure-y time not having to care for them!
And my days started off by riding my bike over a nail. Hooray.

The part of my childhood that was spent camping in the Rocky Mountains is completely confused by the idea that you can go camping somewhere close enough to civilization to bail on the campfire and go to a pub when the going gets tough. Sorry to hear it's raining, though, that often defeats the fun of camping.

It's still fun - the tipis are big enough for all of us to get in if we squeeze up a bit, but the kids have tended to stay in theirs and out of 'boring' adult tipis...
Sounds like a quite civilized sort of camping--but still enough camping to be fun. (Although I have tendencies to agree with Mrs. H. :))

Mycroft's practical knowledge of Sherlock-logic is impressive. Have a "cosy" and restful night. The morning brings adventure!
(RR - Sad, isn't it, that despite the ups and downs, the trend line over time, past a certain age, is down? Glad your mom is doing well, hope your dad is comfortable and not too frustrated with his body's betrayals. Sounds like a great day in progress. If this afternoon is an all-ages outdoor challenge course, I bet most of the adults will enjoy it as much as the kids. The ones I've seen have been like playgrounds for grownups. (And monkey-children like Sherlock.)

Oh, dear, that's irritating, Sherlock, and it's true that it's almost always better to tell the truth. Sometimes a lie can be better, though--for example, if the lie won't harm anyone and telling the truth would. What did they lie about here?
Oi, you little toe rag! Think of the consequences of us not telling that small lie before grassing us up !
But then if you tell a lie so I can do fun things why can't I tell a lie so I can do fun things too?
Because all little lies have to come adult-approved that's why.
Heh. Was it an over-a-certain-age rule? Or did you come without documents certifying your guardian-and-release-signing status? (No answers required.)
And Sherlock: adults have to approve little lies because no matter how smart and logical you are, it takes a certain amount of experience-based knowledge to grasp the possible consequences of a lie, even a little one. Experience that it takes years to accumulate because consequences are not always logical or even sensible - you certainly have lots of evidence that the world we live in is often neither.
It's not fair, but it is practical. May the fun continue!

Oh, it was age. They have two courses - one for ten-and-over, one for under-10s. So we said he was ten. There was no way he was getting left on the kiddie course!!
Another lovely evening together. Meant to rain hard overnight though.
