We've all been wondering about Lestrade's band name, and after yesterday's photo debacle I asked Nicky about it. She was kind enough to send me an actual flyer for one of their shows. Hand made by the look of it, and my but that's a lovely shade of pink.

Is that metallic paint pen? Looks like it to me. And Nicky saved it all these years. She's got a scrapbook, Lestrade. A whole book of this stuff. Aren't you glad someone thought to document your brush with fame?

The name was prophetic! Look at his hair! (That's meant as compliment. I'm of the "silver fox" camp, not "greying mongrel.")
Oh wow! Maybe she has an audio recording of one of their shows? Or at least a demo? :D I bet Lestrade had lots of groupies back then. XD
It's been lovely knowing you all, but it would be unwise for me to update a blog when I'm on the run for burning down my sister's house, so this could be goodbye...
Oh, and it's metallic paint, not a pen. We used to do them with spray paint, the basic name and flash, with stencils, then write on the date, time and place. Four of us, in a confined space, with a bunch of aerosols...those were the days. We'd be high on fumes for about two days afterward. None of your fancy computers and printing then.
And re pinkness, I just need to remind you it was the 80s. Dayglo was in.
Nicky, I dread to think where you found that, let alone what else you might have.
Lupe - we can only hope! She's got to have something, right? At least scribbled down lyrics?
L - so I know you played guitar. Did you sing as well, or was that someone else? I need a fuller picture here.
There may have been singing.
I knew it. You were the star, weren't you? Singer, lead guitar, looking all dashing and broody and dangerous in your guyliner and leather. I'm dating an 80s Rock Legend.
For some reason, I'm fixated on the name of the bar.
Lestrade, I'm sure you and your group were great!
This just keeps getting better and better. I feel like I should make a bowl of popcorn and sit back and watch the show as embarrassing posters and old photos and other secrets are lobbed back and forth in the blog war. :D
Excellent poster Silver Blaze ... er, Fox. Danger, if you get lyrics, I do hope you'll continue to share.
lawless - It's a great name, isn't it? Makes me want to go there immediately.
X - I think Harry must be running out by now. I mean she's got no end of snapshots of me making stupid faces I'm sure, but actual new embarrassing revelations... I can't think of many.
It's not a bar, it's a pub! It was a pub - no idea if it still exists. One of those country pubs with two rooms, regulars who look like they're part of the place and a parrot at the end of the bar who could only swear (drunk blokes, bird which can talk...what did anyone expect?). It's probably a bloody gastropub or something now. Or a block of flats.
I was not a star. We all sang, but I probably sang a bit more than some others. And I did play guitar, but so did two of the others. If I'm a legend, it's for all the wrong reasons.
There were no groupies.
There were no groupies.
For some reason, I find that extremely hard to believe.
(reason being the Before photo)
What kind of songs did your band play?
Oh, John - he was just so sweet. You should have seen him. He'd be out with his friends - the band - and then he'd come home, with his little leather jacket and his hair all done up like he really was a rockstar, and he'd be making the youngster's packed lunches for school, or doing the laundry, or helping them with their homework. And he'd always check we had enough money, or letters signed for school trips - he was a wonderful big brother! And even though we sometimes argued - and he and Mum argued a lot - it was only because he cared, really.
Nicky

ps. We might be able to come to London in the Easter Holidays, if you've got some free time? It would be so lovely to meet you face to face.
I think you just didn't notice the groupies because they were girls.
When I say 'no groupies' then yes, I mean that a. we were probably pretty crap, as a band. b. We came from the Westcountry, any bloke between the ages of about 14 and 30 was seen as eligible, provided they didn't smell too strongly of pig farms. and c. there may have been female 'fans', but I obviously wasn't interested in them. And none of the male fans were interested in me.
We played all sorts. Mainly sort of rocky, mainly covers, although we tried to write our own stuff.
Nicky, you've got your rose tinted specs on again. But I wasn't about to let you all fend for yourselves. It would be great to see you all. If you want, you can pack into my flat, and I'll kip at John's, so you don't have to pay out for a hotel?
Danger - I have every faith in Harry.
Nicky - with his little leather jacket and his hair all done up like he really was a rockstar, and he'd be making the youngster's packed lunches for school
That is possibly the most adorable thing I have ever heard in my life. And yes, of course, I'd love to meet you all and I'm sure the boys would too!
L - Who were the male fans into then? Was there a girl in this band as well?
Had a female drummer - she was brilliant. Loads of attitude, and she was the one who introduced our 'look'. But also, there was very little in the way of pop culture there. Unless we went and played in Bristol or somewhere. Anything that wasn't a barn dance got a decent turn out from young kids. Plus our friends would show up.
I'm really not sure the two of you should meet. Especially if it leads to me being called 'adorable'. It wasn't like I had a choice about helping, you know.
Of course you had a choice. Lots of teenage boys wouldn't have given a toss. And you did. Through all of Mum's new boyfriends, her being pregnant, the chaos our house was always in. You always tried your best.
It would be brilliant if we could stay at yours - it's so much easier than getting a hotel, with the children and everything. Also means we could maybe come down for a whole week, or 5 or so days, at least?
John, do the boys get 'normal' school holidays? I gather Mycroft has tutors, not school? Anyway, we don't want to disrupt anything, so we'll work out the best time to meet up with you all.
Nicky

Sherlock does, more or less, and yeah, Mycroft's lessons can be arranged to fit around whenever you care to come. If I can pry him away from them, that is.
L - I know you didn't see you had a choice, but that's because you're you.
"I'm really not sure the two of you should meet".
I'd be more woried about the havic that would occur if Nicky and Harry were to meet if it were me.
Anon - I am extremely concerned, believe me.
I feel for someone in this sitch as I am the sibling all the others resist inflicting upon their significant others. Not sure who, though. Nicky or John, maybe? Probably Harry. Probably not Lestrade.
Toodle-pip,
Bronwyn
You can go off people you know, Bronwyn...
Oh, I know you can go off people. I'm usually the one that people go off of as I'm informed that I'm off-putting, so that you've lasted this long is impressive. Don't worry, though, Orio, I'm an equal-opportunity offender and I'm sure it will be John's turn soon. ;-P
Toodle-pip,
Bronwyn
Well, I think you're brilliant. It's about time someone recognized my...suffering. Or something, I dunno. Anyhow, I'm clearly the one you should be feeling for, yes.
