stopping by woods

So, the Christmas show. I talked to Mrs N today, and I'm reporting the following bit of conversation so that L can see that the result was not my fault.

Me: Has Sherlock said anything to you about Lestrade playing guitar in the show?

Her: I didn't know he played! Oh, that would be lovely. I was going to play piano, but it'll be easier to organise everyone back stage this way. Thanks so much for offering.

...Clearly not my fault, right? L, I can probably still get you out of it if you really don't want to.

As for the actual content of the show, she said it started with the kids thinking that the most interesting part of the nativity story was the three wise men trekking across the desert and ended as some sort of desert survival story...with science...and dancing. And, she says, possibly a live goat.

I, for one, cannot wait.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of the easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Oh, absolutely not your fault. At all.

Apart from mentioning me, guitars and the show in the same breath...

I only asked if he'd said anything!

not your fault at all John, absolutely not. Mrs N is right it will make her job so much easier and we all know how much he likes to help ;-)

You clarified the dancing didn't involve you I'm guessing?

Let me just think...ah, yes, I think I have a tag appropriate for this sort of scenario...

Anonybob - god, no. After L got co-opted, I was afraid to mention it!

So all we need to do is suggest suitable Christmas songs that feature goats.

you better hope he doesn't get to see Mrs N anytime soon then or you'll be doing all sorts of things you never knew you could ;-)

AnonyBob - you know that...club we weren't talking about earlier? You never know, I might be a member of the same one as she is. So I might indeed talk to her sooner than he thinks... ;)

(John is surprisingly flexible, for one so muscular :) )

Anonybob - I plan to be vigilant...

SH - should be easy, right? Yeah...

I like that for a possible plan Greg ;-)

Eyes in the back of your head only work with kids you know John, he gets up very early in the morning so good luck ;-)

It sounds like an interesting show. What will the science part be? Astronomical navigation? (Maybe "On the Way to Bethlehem" wasn't such a bad choice of song, then.) And where will they find a live goat? Or is that the kind of question which should not be asked lest it has an answer.

I love the poem. That's one of the first poems I ever learned, because the girl scouts had a round to sing that borrowed from the last stanza.

One of the parents has access to a live goat...for whatever reason. I'm not asking. That's why it came up.

Yay for Robert Frost, and good luck with the show. Sherlock's class is so much more creative than mine ever was. Or perhaps than mine would have been allowed to be. There was never any deviation or unauthorized interpretation with bible stories.

Kholly - I think they're supposed to try and make their stories a bit more inclusive, as the school isn't religious, but the kids are from all different backgrounds. So they can pretty much make stuff up!

RSF, I started humming as soon as I saw the title of today's post. That's still one of my favorite camp songs (and beats 'Super California Surfers', which my girls have been singing at volume today).

It sounds like an amazing show. And how brave, letting the kids have so much input. Not that kids can't write, just that anything written by committee can be a bit...let's go with 'unfocused'.

After their version of Hamlet, I think unfocused will most likely be an excellent description.

Unfocused, but entertaining...
