souffle success

I made this. It...worked? Bit dense maybe? I don't have extensive souffle eating experience, so it's hard to judge, but Sherlock ate two of them, so it must've not been too bad. It was actually a pretty simple recipe. It made six, so Mrs Hudson got one, and security got the other. Hopefully they shared and didn't go for a fight to death or anything. They're more used to L's desserts, which are worth fighting over. Hopefully this has erased the shame of the cheese and vinegar incident from everyone's mind.

And here's a tiny bat for Sherlock (and everyone else who wants one):

Lestrade's feeling better, which is wonderful. Sherlock's not even fake-coughing, despite school tomorrow. There was sun today and it looks like there might even be more tomorrow. Things are looking up...and I'm reading about tasers. Or, really, TASERs, since it's an acronym. There's an entire chapter on them in Clinical Forensic Medicine.  Apparently the man who invented them named them after his favourite character: Tom A. Swift and his Electric Rifle (TASER). So, there's something I'm willing to bet most of you didn't know. And will never have occasion to use now that you do know it.

That bat is...amazing.

Although to you I guess it's like a normal sized bat to the rest of us ;)

You just hush, or you'll get no more souffles. Or bats! The site I saw it on said it weighed barely 1 gram. Amazing.

Greg Lestrade said...

Sherlock will want his own...swarm? Flock? of them. To do his bidding. At night, as the city sleeps...

Just like to mention, by the way, that I love you a really massive amount.

John H. D. Watson said...

Now I'm remembering that bat you posted... Don't touch me! I am the night! Ha.

I know. I love you too. Really...really a lot. And we're getting married. That's still amazing to me.

that bat is so cute :-)

The number of things I've learnt from your two blogs is amazing! :-)

well done with the pudding John, are you applying for the next series of masterchef? ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Apparently you can have a 'cauldron' of bats. Amazing.

We are getting married! It just makes me smile like a big goofy kid when I think about it.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha! I can't even imagine the scale of the disaster that would be. Mrs Holmes might have to step in.

John H. D. Watson said...

Er...the masterchef disaster. Not our wedding!

It just makes me smile like a big goofy kid when I think about it.

Yeah, me too. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

The tiny bat reminds me of seeing pictures of tiny chamealeons.

...Wouldn't bank on Mrs H not having to step in for the wedding. Mainly to remove Sherlock for our wedding night!

You'd probably end up lamping Gregg Wallace on Masterchef. I know I would.

John H. D. Watson said...

As long as she doesn't declare war on either of our mothers...

No, I'd have you there to do that for me, so I could get on with swearing at my food.

Greg Lestrade said...

She can decalre war on mine.

That's a bit unfair, isn't it?

Hmm...not sure I'd let you. I've seen a sparkle in your eye when I'm watching Michel Roux Jr. Although I don't think he does the normal Masterchef, does he? Just the professional one.

John H. D. Watson said...

I don't know about fair, but it's certainly not an even match... Your mum doesn't have any helicopters at all.

No comment. I'm definitely not professional, though, or really even amateur.

Greg Lestrade said...

No, but I have a feeling she could totally baffle Mrs H with her bizarre leaps of logic.

You're perfect. And anyway, you can't be too good at cooking, because I like doing the cooking. It's my escape.

John H. D. Watson said...

I like you doing the cooking too. It's nice to watch.

He looks a bit like you, you know. I have a feeling you're going to deny this.

Greg Lestrade said...

talking of bizarre leaps of logic...who looks like me?? I hope you don't mean Gregg Wallace, because I do deny it - strenuously!

John H. D. Watson said...

No! Michel Roux Jr. Definitely not Gregg Wallace, god no.

Greg Lestrade said...

Oh. Then...Yeah, I'll just deny it. Not strenuously.

Is that why you watch it? Or is it just for the cooking tips...

John H. D. Watson said...

Both? And because it's one of the few programmes Sherlock will tolerate without telling me how STUPID and BORING it is every two minutes and why can't we do something FUN instead...

Greg Lestrade said...

yeah, but he mainly wants something to catch on fire, someone to cut a finger off or for Monica to actually kill someone with her death glare...

John H. D. Watson said...

Or to somehow break a bone 'enough so that he can see the bone part', yes.

Greg Lestrade said...

...one day there will be an elaborate booby trap for us when we leave this room. In a few years time, maybe, when we're old with good brittle bones...

John H. D. Watson said...

You'd think having his very own broken arm would be enough for him...

Greg Lestrade said...

I fear it wasn't nearly dramatic enough.

He made me show him the very undramatic scar from my collarbone sticking out, the night he did it, and sulked when I didn't have any photos, and didn't believe there was a time when we didn't all have a cameraphones in our pockets all the time.

Bed? Have to actually drag myself to work tomorrow.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. Thank goodness, or there would be far worse pictures of me for you to post.

Bed would be nice, yes.

Posting a little late, but John I just had to tell you how impressed I am that you made souffles. I just find the whole thought of them very intimidating. Congrats!

L. I'm glad you're feeling better.

And that bat is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen ;)

Good night all.

Apparently the man who invented them named them after his favourite character: Tom A. Swift and his Electric Rifle (TASER).

Along the same lines--did you know that the man who dreamed up Wonder Woman (and her Lasso of Truth) also invented the polygraph (or a major component of it)? Heh.

That bat is almost too cute to be real! What kind of bat is it?

Greg Lestrade said...

Oh god so bored of coughing now.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry Lestrade. :(

pandabob said...

I hope the coughing stopped and you managed some sleep Greg :-)

Good luck with work try not to work so hard you end up feeling worse.

Have a good day John :-)

Small Hobbit said...

As the Boom Town Rats sang: "Tell me why I don't like Mondays."

Hope you all have a good day, J, L and everyone.

Greg Lestrade said...

Cheers. Got a bit of sleep. But I had to get up and escape so I didn't wake John up.

Knackered already though. Luckily nothing too taxing has happened yet - hoping for a peaceful day!

Hope you all have a nice day and get some sunshine.

pandabob said...

is work still not too taxing?

I hope coffee is helping you deal with knackeredness :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger, if you're up for drinking coffee, I'm up for buying you some

John H. D. Watson said...

Sounds good. I'm about two minutes away if you're free? I'll tell you about my interview.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, I'll meet you outside in 5

Hope it went well

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger, coming home in a bit with paperwork. Have mainly lost my voice.

REReader said...

I will tell you what my college speech teacher told me, lo these many years ago, when I turned up in class with no voice--SPEAK NOT!

John H. D. Watson said...

Hm. How's the cough?

Greg Lestrade said...

Still there.

Just been talking too much. Been one of those days.

Quite wheezy still.

John H. D. Watson said...

All right, love. Let me know if you need anything. Sherlock and I are just on the way home.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm home. I can only communicate in odd noises, gestures and writing.

So not wildly different to usual.

Sherlock said...

Do you know semaphore?

Greg Lestrade said...

...sort of, maybe? I can remember someone telling me a bit about it, and the order you do it in...but I'd probably get it wrong a lot.

Do you?

Sherlock said...

No but I learned some today, I'll show you.

IHaveNoInternetFace said...

Sherlock, have you ever heard of "Why is Snot Green?" It's a science book that basically is Glen Murphy (the author) answering questions he was asked when he worked a the Science Museum.

REReader said...

How's the semaphore lesson going?

Greg Lestrade said...

I don't think it was a lesson, really. He just wanted to semaphore wildly at me.

REReader said...

That sounds entertaining... I mean, educational. :)

Anyone remember Monty Python's "Wuthering Heights" by Semaphore?

IHNIF, we have that book at my library. It's a nice book for opening at random pages and reading.

Sherlock, why were you learning semaphore? I can remember the principle, but not which letters are which.

Hope your voice improves today, L. Mine seems to have gone permanently into "Frog" mode.
