rings

Last night, we bought wedding bands. I'm not sure which version that's linking to, but we got the platinum ones. I really like them - nice and simple. And the thing I like best about them is that we've actually bought them and they're on their way here. It makes it seem more real - even more so than picking the place, somehow, for me at least.

Mycroft approves. Sherlock thinks they should be more sparkly, but then he reconsidered, because we both have to wear gloves for work a lot, and sparkly things might rip the gloves. Very practical.

Today was lovely. Really peaceful. Nice long walk, lunch in the park, more than usually successful attempts to distract L from the paperwork he knows is piling up while he's away...

And here is some amazing origami:

Planning our wedding is distinctly more important than paperwork :)

I feel like... Feel like I can't possibly be more happy. Yet on the day we actually get hitched, I know I will be. If that makes any sense.

John H. D. Watson said...

It does - I feel exactly the same. :) Although when we get to writing the vows, there will probably also be some small amount of terror.

Greg Lestrade said...

I just...I don't know what to say, honestly. And I've been thinking about it a lot!

Sherlock is currently swinging around me as I cut up fruit asking what he and Mycroft will be doing on the day.

John H. D. Watson said...

I remember him asking if he could be a flower child at one point. I wonder if he still wants to...

REReader said...

Properly sparkly rings DO catch on things, Sherlock is quite right it would be impractical. (Although jewelry that sparkles is generally best.... ;))

I was wondering this myself--thinking that aside from performing the usual best man functions, perhaps an instrumental duet would be nice? (Of course, that would depend on how you and they feel about that...)

REReader said...

Oh, and the origami--amazing! One of my nephews was very into origami, and he made some very intricatet things, but not like those. Gorgeous!

I've read about weddings and sometimes the man is at the front and the woman walks up to him but both of you are men and will you both walk in or will one of you walk in and what do I do and I DEFINITELY want flowers and maybe to have a ring and later cake.

John H. D. Watson said...

I think we'll probably walk up together? And I don't know what you do yet. I'm sure you can have flowers though, and we'll all have cake.

Greg Lestrade said...

You sure we'll get through the door without supervision? Might see you in your suit and decide to keep you all to myself, leaving a roomful of people tapping their feet and making awkward small talk...

John H. D. Watson said...

And then Murray will yell 'Are you two shagging back there?' and then Mrs H will have him shot... I think we'd better resist temptation.

Greg Lestrade said...

Am I allowed to walk in with my hair messed up, shirt done up wrong and a bit untucked, just to give you a reputation? (or, should I say, confirm the one you already have, 3C?)

John H. D. Watson said...

I swear I should never have introduced you two...

Greg Lestrade said...

Very naughty, trying to keep secrets from your husband-to-be. I definitely need to know Murray :)

John H. D. Watson said...

Mm, I suppose. And I am very happy you get along.

Greg Lestrade said...

knew you couldn't be as innocent as you seemed - all a cunning act! Not that it matters, because you're amazing and I love you.

John H. D. Watson said...

Completely innocent! He exaggerates. Wildly.

I love you too.

Greg Lestrade said...

Mmmm. I prefer to believe the witness than the accused ;)

So...we need to get onto getting suits. And I'm back at work tomorrow. Well, unless some FME signs me off for longer...

John H. D. Watson said...

Don't think I'm not tempted, but they might feel I have ulterior motives...

pandabob said...

The rings will be lovely :-)

You have done a great job of taking time for yourself Greg, I'd sort of prefer you didn't need a crack around the head with a cricket bat to get you to do it next time but well done both of you for taking the opportunity to do something wonderful :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

I've booked a whole day next Tues, when they said the stitches should be ready to come out. And I'm off Sunday, in case you're out all Saturday night.

John H. D. Watson said...

Excellent. And thank you - though I hope not to be out all night obviously. You never know.

Greg Lestrade said...

Mmm. Saturday night, in the city of the exploding pavements... anything could happen! Although you're more likely to be needed for alcohol poisoning and people falling down off their faces than anything exciting like an exploding pavement.

Greg Lestrade said...

(for the non-Londoners among you: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-22934155 )

REReader said...

Exploding sidewalks...I guess exciting is a word for it! (IIRC, NYC street power woes tend more to accidental electrocutions than explosions... O_O )

Greg Lestrade said...

Right bedtime.

And my final thought for today is that Charles Saatchi seems like a complete arsehole.

Anonymous said...

Aaaand I sneezed just as the first explosion happened in that BBC video. Figures. I hope there will be no explosions on your wedding day. I mean, unless you want fireworks or something.

I think I agree with you regarding Charles Saatchi. (And dang, I had seen a headline about this, and just skimmed right past it, which makes me more appalled at myself now I've read more about it!) I... have more thoughts but they are not easily expressed in polite language so I think I'll just leave off.

Good luck with work today Greg :-)

Have a nice day John :-)

The origami is awesome!

I love the rings - we chose wolfram ones, because we both wear them no matter what and wolfram is pretty much non-reactive (sorry for the inaccuracy, Sherlock).

Wedding planning... I still have nightmares about ours and we celebrated our 4th anniversary recently. Some of our friends who were there decided to simply get hitched at the office with two random people for witnesses. It wasn't tragic or something but whatever could go wrong definitely went wrong. It was one big Murphy-fest. So, don't plan too much and expect the unexpected - you guys have even more unpredictability (and is this a real word?) than we do!

John, have you seen the Wimbledon seedings?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/22965431

Could be some interesting matches...

John H. D. Watson said...

Anon - I have, yeah! Should be good. I'm really glad Nadal's back up to speed for it.

Greg Lestrade said...

So... When am I a tennis widower?

And Danger, if you're at home, I made you a big alas and left it in the fridge.

Greg Lestrade said...

Or a big salad... With yummy leftovers from yesterday.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ah, I was trying to work out what an alas might be, and I wasn't even close. The alas looks delicious, thanks. :)

Wimbledon starts on the 24th... Any interest in going with me for a day?

Kestrel337 said...

"a big alas and left it in the fridge"

Correction not-withstanding, I'm going to spend all day wondering what a big alas might be.

(Being a barely adequate cook, I've got several contenders. And if you expand the field, woah nelly!)

Greg Lestrade said...

Can I wear flip flops and shorts? Can I tut at you ogling other men? Will you buy me strawberries and cream and champagne? Will it rain?

John H. D. Watson said...

L - Almost certainly yes to all of those, especially the rain.

Kestrel - I tend to put my big alases directly into the bin. They make the fridge smell peculiar.

Greg Lestrade said...

Maybe then :) give me some dates.

Finally a nice day, eh? Blue skies!

John H. D. Watson said...

Thanks. :)

Yeah, not bad. Will you get out of the office at all?

Greg Lestrade said...

Havent even left my office today. Apart from liquid intake and output.

John H. D. Watson said...

Good luck. If the paper starts mounting above your eyebrows, call for help...

Greg Lestrade said...

If it ever gets below my eyebrows I shall do a victory dance! :)

You having a nice day?

REReader said...

If it ever gets below my eyebrows I shall do a victory dance! :)

Ooh, have Sally video it, please! ;)

Trills said...

Looking forward to Wimbledon. Go Murray!

Are you guys going to do the full queue experience or can Mrs H pull some strings to get you into the royal box?

REReader said...

This isn't the right wedding cake for you two (unless you're secret chess masters, which could be!), but OMG!: http://twitter.com/britishmuseum/status/347333084645040128/photo/1

John H. D. Watson said...

L - very nice, yeah. Sherlock and I are just going to the allotment to weed and water and possibly collect something for dinner. I think the chard might be big enough.

Trills - the full queue experience! Well, no camping overnight I hope. But reasonably full. I am, as usual, torn between Federer and Murray. But basically I'll be happy as long as it's not Djokovic.

RR - that looks amazing, and now I'm hungry...

REReader said...

Me toooo!

(I'm sure Sherlock would be happy to help you find a suitably mid-week alternative... ;))

Greg Lestrade said...

is it worth having lunch this close to going home?

Mazarin said...

The rings are lovely, gentlemen. Oddly, from an outsiders perspective, it seems much more real to me, too.

Have you picked a day, yet, or have I missed it? It's been an incredibly busy spring and now things are starting to slow down, so I'm trying to catch up on all of the important things. :)

John H. D. Watson said...

Absolutely. Do you want company?

John H. D. Watson said...

Maz - we have, maybe, sort of, along with a place. But we haven't told anyone yet, nothing final. Glad things are getting less hectic for you.

Greg Lestrade said...

Wasn't planning on leaving my office, except to rescue my salad from the fridge.

Maz - the place didn't have that many free dates - and one of them was for two weekend's time! So we've sort of picked the ones we think are best and have to confirm it with them. And then get our licence! :)

Greg Lestrade said...

That sounded rude... I'm jacking in work, coming home, with paperwork and cooking you s nice dinner

John H. D. Watson said...

It didn't sound rude, just busy. We'll be happy to see you, of course.

Greg Lestrade said...

Want some... Sausages, spuds and greens? Or is there something else you fancy?

My head hurts when I put my helmet on :(

John H. D. Watson said...

Sounds good to me. We can put the chard in with some other greens? It won't be enough on its own.

I know, love. And yet you still put it on...

Sherlock said...

I want to go swimming outside can we please go soooooooon please?

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm sure we can. I'll have to ask John about my stitches, but I think I'm allowed to get them wet.

Otherwise the two of you could go after school?

It is stupidly humid.

pandabob said...

swimming outside would be great Sherlock especially in this weather :-)

I hope you enjoy your tea, eating things you've grown yourself is always nice

Sherlock said...

I'VE GOT CATERPILLARS!

pandabob said...

BRILLIANT Sherlock :-)

REReader said...

Oh, yay, they came! (Definitely deserves the all caps!)

Kestrel337 said...

Yay for caterpillars! I agree with RR, caps is completely justified. I was impressed at the restrained use of a single exclamation point, myself.
:-)

Rider said...

I never thought there would be an intersection between questionable fashion choices and caterpillars...

but behold!

http://membracid.wordpress.com/2013/06/13/the-mad-hatterpillar/

(I don't know if they get married though)

John H. D. Watson said...

That should be on a runway somewhere...

rsf said...

You guys find the coolest links. That origami is positively unreal. As are the cake, and the caterpillar!

Speaking of which: Hooray for caterpillars! How long before they become butterflies!

Boo for stitches plus humidity. :( I hope they stop hurting as much soon.
