It's been ages since my last post...by which I mean about five days, I think? Italy got the better of me. I don't think I did a single productive thing while we were there, unless you count eating. Which I do. It would've been incredibly remiss of us not to eat...just about everything on offer.
It was really lovely, if slightly confusing on both sides, meeting L's family. They were confused by us, our relationships (mine and L's, the boys and ours - the only one that really made sense to them was Sherlock and Mycroft, but that's not all that different from home). And Sherlock and I (mostly me, Sherlock to some extent) were confused by basically everything everyone said, because half the time L thought he was translating, he was actually just repeating what they'd said in Italian...
He's still speaking in Italian occasionally, and now that Mycroft's back at school, I've got no one to translate. I did learn a few new words though, most of which I would prefer to keep Sherlock ignorant of.
And...I didn't check my email at all for the last two days we were there. Came back to the news that I have my first shift this Friday. I'm looking forward to it.
And here, have some pictures.

Apparently still speaking Italian at work, too...
And usually I wasn't just repeating things in Italian - but explaining them. Which was clealry no end of help ;)
I had some weird dreams while we were out there. Partially Italian dreams. In one of which, Mycroft fire bombed a town hall, and Sherlock fell asleep in someone's house we were burgling. You were the getaway driver.
explaining them
Ha, not actually more helpful, but somehow funnier...
I would make an excellent getaway driver. We took Sherlock on the heist with us? I think that would end badly.
The dream started with us in an Italian house. We were burgling it, Sherlock was asleep in one of their beds. Then people came home, so we put sheets over ourselves and ran past them to escape. They chased us, but we got away... And we stopped near the town hall we stopped by in Urbania (the lower picture, for those reading this) and Mycroft jumped out of the car, pulled a petrol bomb out, fire bombed the place so we had to escape again!
...as for the translating, I'd just forget who I was translating what from and to and...yeah, useless! Still, we mainly got there.
We live an exciting life in your dreams!
Yeah, we got there in the end. And the getting there was usually pretty entertaining. ;)
Especially when I couldn't remember a word and everyone would pitch in to try and help, even when they didn't speak the same language!
You have to remember I speak Italian like a teenager. All that gets me through the modern stuff is that lots of it you can take a guess at (still proud of getting 'mass spectrometer' right!)
...and I think I need to sleep. Not in ahouse we're burgling...
Yeah, no burgling tonight. I'm too tired.

Woo hoo! Best of luck with it!

Yeah, I don't know why, but I'm with John--that is funnier... :D
I do like the idea of L explaining the Italian in Italian and Mycroft then having to translate. Sounds like you work very well together.
Have you been getting a lot of "And again, in English, sir"?
Hope your first day goes well J - just watch out for any Italian speaking DIs they may have ulterior motives ;)
Great news about the job John :-)
There is something pretty wonderful about the idea that you were so relaxed on your holiday that you mixed up your languages Greg but I'm glad Mycroft was there to help John and Sherlock out ;-)
Have a good day :-)
It's been a long time since I had anyone to translate to!
L, you had the best dream I've heard about in a long, long time :)
Ha - thanks, I think!
Just got word I should be able to pick up my new bike on Saturday! Made me a very happy boy.
Yay for bike day ;-)
Is the day treating you well?
How goes yours John?
L - excellent news.
Anonybob - pretty well, thanks. We now have geraniums in pots at the allotment. And possibly the beginnings of blueberries on the blueberry bush.
fresh blueberries eaten straight from the bush will make a nicer after school snack than either cake or icecream I'm sure ;-)
I'm glad you're having a good day :-)
The pictures are lovely. I get so used to seeing advertisements and store signs everywhere that I forget that people don't always need them everywhere.
I was trying to figure out why "mass spectrometer" would come up in a vacation conversation, but I'm sure there was a reason. Possibly named Sherlock.
Yay for the new bike!
Has anything on the allotment reached the place where you can eat it soon?
Pretty much just the herbs so far, but other things are starting make some progress now. I think it's going to be a while yet though.
L, I love that your subconscious leads you to a life of crime. And I am going to join RSF in wondering why you needed to translate 'mass spectrometer'... is there a story here?
New job on Friday, new bike on Saturday... what are you going to follow up with on Sunday?
No story - Sherlock and Mycroft found a tiny sign near a little old wooden door for a lab, and it said it had one, that's all! There's all sorts of odd things hidden in amongst the old city walls. Things you'd never believe.
You're right, I'm not sure I'll believe that one without giving my eyebrows climbing lessons. I mean, I believe *you*, I just am having trouble imagining what sort of lab might have a sign with that kind of equipment information on it. Although it does make sense that if there was such a lab and it did have a sign that Sherlock and Mycroft would be the ones to notice it!
