he knows how to make an entrance

First motorcycle lesson tomorrow. L claims to be nervous, but give the appointment he has later in the day, he has much better reasons to be nervous than me wobbling around on a bike for a few hours. The one he claims is his 'eye check up'. The only similarity is that he's also got two of what he's actually going to get seen to.

Speaking of appointments (but not the sort L has tomorrow), I have one with Mrs Holmes on Friday. I don't know what about. Should be interesting, at least. They always are.

Nicky is quite the source. I only wish I had this many photos of my brother in his young and questionable days. Though to be fair he met his wife when they were 18 so she took most of the photos of his young and questionable days.

It's nice to see you looking happy L.

Greg Lestrade said...

Is that a new tag? Hope you don't get to use it often.

Nicky, I will... I don't know what I'll do to you. It won't be pleasant. Maybe I'll publish a photo of you with your perm.

John H. D. Watson said...

You look perfectly nice! And as KHolly said, it's nice to see you smiling.

It is a new tag. I'll get a lot of use out of it while I'm having lessons I suspect.

Greg Lestrade said...

Hmmm.

At least you won't all pick on my shirt this time.

Although, Bronwyn, it might, if you look closely, answer your question.

No idea at all what Her Maj wants to talk to you about? Should I fit you with a tracking device?

Ria said...

Kind of looks like he's doing the Thriller dance, which I must say would be an excellent way to make an entrance.

Anon Without A Name said...

Heh, so he does smile :-)

It's quite sweet that Lestrade is being nervous about your lesson; when one has a highly capable boyfriend, opportunities for proper nervousness on their behalf must must be few and far between.

Good luck with your appointments (all three of them).

(Your capture says "bless". I feel like I ought to be ruffling someone's hair)

John H. D. Watson said...

Ria - ha! It certainly would.

L - no idea. I'm sure she could find a tracking device and have it removed though.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm only nervous of the London traffic - I'd been riding for years and it's tried to kill me enough times!

Although obviously you'll a. be more careful than I was, b. be with a trainer and c. be on quieter roads, I hope, if you get on the roads at all, in your first lesson.

And obviously I want you to enjoy it.

Nameless - my hair was born ruffled. It refuses to be anything else.

REReader said...

Going by that picture, you styled it to look ruffled. By now it's trained. :)

Good luck to both of you on all those appointments! At least one should be fun, one should (one expects) turn out well, and one should definitely be interesting...

(Still looking for a way to adjust the timestamps. I did say I get obsessive when exhausted, didn't i?)

REReader said...

Okay, the only thing I can find on the timestamp issue it how to change the time zone in your blog settings (under here>, but if you already did that--and you said you did-- I have no idea. :(

Greg Lestrade said...

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll fix it in the coming days.

Bronwyn said...

Which question, Greg? The one about the shirt? Because that is never the same shirt. I'm color deficient, not color blind. And I'm pretty sure this one is pink where the other one was blue or purple.

Or I could be wrong; it wouldn't be the first time. :)

Just don't ask me to identify race with any reliability and we'll be fine.

Here's hoping your whatevers are healthy. Are these orbs like the ones in Dante that you get to choose between them or eyeballs? Was that even coherent? This is what happens when I'm tired.
Bronwyn

Greg Lestrade said...

Is call that one maroon, dark red, at a push. No, you asked another question. I'm not sure I want to give you more direction than that... but it's early, and I'm in a very good mood, so...

You asked a question about how much fishnet appeared in my wardrobe during That era. Well, it's kind of hard to see, but if you look closely at that t-shirt...

Desert Wanderer said...

Very nice, Lestrade.

Anon Without A Name said...

[Bronwyn] asked a question about how much fishnet appeared in my wardrobe during That era. Well, it's kind of hard to see, but if you look closely at that t-shirt...

Oh my lord. I thought that tee shirt was dark grey or faded black... but it's fishnet. FISHNET. Hah.

Fishnet tee shirt, heavy jewellery (on one hand, at least), highlights... adorable :-D God bless the eighties, right?

Greg Lestrade said...

It wouldnt be fitting to have a blog post from Danger about me in my youth without there being at least one fashion item to laugh at, right?

And yes, God bless them, and all who sailed in them...

Anon Without A Name said...

Well at least you had the figure for it; I guarantee that at no point in the eighties or since have I had the right shape for wearing fishnet.

Enjoy your day off! I present you're back to bed in a bit?

Greg Lestrade said...

Ha, thanks! It was one of my favourite t shirts!

And yeah, might have a bit of a snooze after dropping Sherlock at school, or might just get a coffee. I wasn't really up at just gone five, but the boy wonder was hungry, so i got him some milk and a banana (he was Starving, he corrects me, not just hungry) and we all went back to bed for a bit. After a short disagreement regarding degus in the bed...

Small Hobbit said...

Hope you both have a good day, the the Doc comes back with enough tales to make your hair curl Lestrade, and that the eye appointment isn't too painful.

Desert Wanderer said...

Hope you have a blast, Doc. And like SH says come back with good stories. From *all* the appointments. :D

REReader said...

No, no--it's too easy to accidentally smother a degu in a people bed.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm at home, twiddling my thumbs, feeling slightly jealous of all the lovely bikes John had to choose from for his ride today. The degus seem to like music, and if I sit them on the guitar and play a few notes they both stand up on their back legs and chirp. I assume they must naturally look for danger (meaning, danger, not meaning John) when the ground vibrates beneath them, it's nice having them about in the otherwise empty flat.

RR - he does know theyre banned from the bed, but he was still arguing the case for them to be allowed just to sit on top of the covers with him. He lost, the goos where left in peace in their own bed.

REReader said...

I don't suppose the ground vibrates musically in their natural environment. :) Do they seem to like music when it's not under their feet?

It's rather lovely to see Sherlock so attached to the degus, even if you do have keep having the same, er, discussions about where they can and can't go.

Greg Lestrade said...

They seem to ignore it, largely. They're being very vocal, but it might just be because its quiet! They have been watching me.

Yeah, he is being very good with them.

REReader said...

If they're "talking" to you, maybe they want to play? You all did say they are very social. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

I think they're talking to each other about me....

Desert Wanderer said...

They're trying to sing along! You should train them to sing "Folsom Prison Blues."

If you can train hamsters to row a boat (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_dFmNCQvgE&feature=related), then surely degus can sing. :D

REReader said...

I think they're talking to each other about me...

Ha! (Comparing notes as to whether your head or pocket makes a better perch, perhaps. :D)

REReader said...

(Although I did get a sudden flash of Statler and Waldorf from the Muppet Shiw... :D)

Bronwyn said...

I did ask that, didn't I? And it is! And you can see your pendant through it! Heh heh heh! Reminds me of college and a costume party I went to. My friend's then boyfriend wore a mesh top and she kept getting distracted by it. Finally, he said "are you okay?" And she said "oh yes. I'm just wondering how much of you I could manage to suck through that nifty shirt."

Maroon. The bane of my existence. I hardly ever guess that one right. ;P

Tinkerty,
Bronwyn

Desert Wanderer said...

Hmm. Doc's lesson is scheduled from 10-12. It is now 1240, and nothing but silence. Must be an engrossing game of Tiddlywinks going on in that flat...

Greg Lestrade said...

My winks are thoroughly tiddled, yes.

And now....

REReader said...

:D

Eye test time now, isn't it? ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

He's being very brave.

Greg Lestrade said...

Can honestly say it's like no eye test I've had before..

REReader said...

I believe you. Both of you.

*wincing*

Greg Lestrade said...

It...wasn't so bad. About a 5, on the pain scale. First hurt more than the second.

And now I'm wearing a shirt again....i'm not sure I can describe how that feels.

Anonymous said...

Are John's hands OK? :)

Piplover said...

That reminds me of when I got my tattoo. I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle it, as I'm a bit of a wimp, so my sister tagged along. The guy did one little line and was like, "You want me to continue?"

Well, duh! I have a line on my back! You might as well finish it!

I hope you're not too tender, and you heal quickly. Ouch!

REReader said...

I imagine wearing a shirt is going to remain interesting. :) (Isn't that sort of the point, at least in part?)

I hope it all heals up fast and clean.

Anon Without A Name said...

Is that a good kind of indescribable, at least?

Blogger's new comment system is a right pain to use on a phone, isn't it?

mazarin221b said...

Well and bravely done, Lestrade! How long do they take to heal before you can...um, how do I put this...

You know what, never mind. I hope you (and John!) enjoy them.

*jealous* My man gave me the thumbs-down on extra adornments.

How was the lesson, John? What did you learn today?

John H. D. Watson said...

My hand is only mildly crushed.

The lesson was good! I got out on less busy streets for a bit, though the entire first half (nearly an hour) was a safety talk and various dire warnings about what happens to idiots who don't wear their helmets. I suppose it's good they take it so seriously.

mazarin221b said...

The leading advocate *against* motorcycle helmet laws in my state (there isn't a mandatory requirement here), was killed in a riding accident last year. Because he wasn't wearing a helmet.

I don't understand why people are so against it, although I suppose when one makes the "freedom of choice" argument, it can be hard to defend. I just think it's stupid not to.

REReader said...

Awesome, John! (The out-on-the-streets part, that is. :))

Mazarin--the answer to the freedom of choice argument is that the rest of us end up paying when going without a helmet results in a spinal cord injury instead of death.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, no freedom of choice here - but people still ride around housing estates etc without them - and in shorts and flip flops.

I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself though, Danger.

Sherlock has just announced to the entire playground full of parents that I have pierced nipples. And has asked an entire barrage of questions regarding pain, what it's like vs stitches, if he can do John's.. heh heh.

John H. D. Watson said...

No one is piercing anything of mine, thanks, but if someone was, I can guarantee they would be at least four times Sherlock's age.

REReader said...

Laws can't suppress idiocy, alas.

And hehehe! Yeah, if you want discretion from Sherlock about something you'll have to tell him first! Not that he can't keep secrets because he obviously can and has, but because he doesn't seem to have mapped out the line between public and not-public yet. (Which is normal, as my sister's many embarassing stories about her kids can attest.)

Didn't I say that Sherlock was going to want to do a piercing, being as he's already done stitches? I'm sure I said something like that... :D

Greg Lestrade said...

Sherlock has now announced that as I was brave I deserve ice cream. Can't see a hidden motive there at all...

She was probably only 4 times Sherlock's age... but very nice to us.

I feel I should get a new fishnet t shirt to show off now...John?

REReader said...

That's very thoughtful of you, Sherlock!

John H. D. Watson said...

If you do, it's going on the blog.

You definitely deserve ice cream, and so do I.

Greg Lestrade said...

You do. You were the best hand holder a boy could have.

John H. D. Watson said...

In that case, I demand sprinkles too.

dw said...

I can't be the only ones who read sparkles

Greg Lestrade said...

He always demands sparkles. Hence my current situation.

Maz - a couple of months, probably.

Nameless - yes, pretty good. Occasionally slightly tender. Occasionally almost embarrassingly nice ..

dw said...

Really?! You're trying to blame that on Doc? Nothing at all to do with you... ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. Everything is official my fault, remember? They didn't look that sparkly to me though.

Greg Lestrade said...

46 years without him - no pierced nipples. 14 mints with him - 2 pierced nipples. Evidence speaks for itself.

What'll I have after a few years??

Greg Lestrade said...

Months...

John H. D. Watson said...

Two pierced nipples and one pierced ear. I think I get to blame Carla for that though.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, and I had had it done before. So I won't blame you for that.

Just everything else.

Which bike did you choose today?

John H. D. Watson said...

Er...it was white? Oh, it was a BMW, I remember that. Couldn't tell you which one though, sorry. It looked expensive. I didn't think they'd have ones that nice to learn on.

Anon Without A Name said...

I find myself disconcertingly fascinated. And clearly the next step in Doctor Danger's Perforation Plan has to be a Prince Albert, right? ;-p

John - glad you enjoyed your lesson :-)

DW - definitely not the only one.

Piplover said...

Anon, if Sherlock asks what Prince Albert has to do with piercings, I will laugh and laugh and laugh.

Greg Lestrade said...

I would only ever send you to the best to learn.

BMW do make some lovely bikes. If we went touring, I'd get one.

Nameless - nope. Line has to be drawn somewhere, and PA is definitely below it! Nips is as low as it goes.

REReader said...

What'll I have after a few years??

Depends on how close you let Sherlock get to you with piercing tools, doesn't it? :D

John H. D. Watson said...

If Sherlock has question, I shall direct him to you, Nameless.

I did know a man with one of those once. It was...interesting. But I'm just as glad L's line is drawn above the waist.

Greg Lestrade said...

Interesting, hmm?

I briefly went out with a guy who had a ring err... I don't know what it's called... base of the penis, between it and the balls. It was quite nice, but...ugh, can't imagine getting it done.

John H. D. Watson said...

I didn't even know people got them there, let alone that it had a name. Right, yeah, above the waist is good.

Greg Lestrade said...

I think people have them everywhere. I arrested a bloke once whose crown jewels had more gold on than her maj's crown jewels

REReader said...

Okay, this whole conversation is making me wince and I don't even have a there.

John H. D. Watson said...

more gold on than her maj's crown jewels

That's a lot. Did he jingle when he walked?

...And how did you ascertain this? Patting him down for weapons? What's all this? Oh wait, it's attached...

Greg Lestrade said...

Ah, a lorum, Google tells me it's called.

No, said gentleman was naked when arrested. Well, naked apart from half a jewellery shop dangling from his ears, nose, lips, nips, and tackle. And yes, he did jingle. We were more worried that he was covered in blood and very very angry, though.

REReader said...

*clears throat*

And how did the degu cage refit go?

:D

Anon Without A Name said...

Pip - One of these days, I'll remember that Sherlock reads this stuff before I post :-)

John - Well, if you really want your inquisitive six-year-old asking me questions about genital piercing, then... :-p Personally, I think you'd be far better suited to the job, being a doctor and all.

Lestrade - Lorum or possibly Hafada, depending on the placement (Wikipedia knows all; Sherlock - DO NOT GOOGLE THAT, DO NOT LOOK IT UP ON WIKIPEDIA)

REReader said...

(Sherlock, I second that, because I did look it up. Really don't!)

Greg Lestrade said...

Given that Sherlock is interested in everything I really don't mind him looking things like that up. It's not as if it's on Wikipedia as porn, it's just factual. (John's view may differ...)

I think it was a lorum. It was... involved, when things got interesting. Although maybe you get high up hafadas too. Anyway, there.

Anon Without A Name said...

Heh, see, I always get it wrong. This is why it's a good thing I don't have kids :-)

It was... involved, when things got interesting

Very delicately put :-)

John H. D. Watson said...

I would definitely want to check the article and the links at the end first.

he was covered in blood and very very angry

I must know. Why?

RR - cage refit went fairly well! The degus seem pleased, or did for the five minutes Sherlock let them run around in there before taking them out to play with them. I imagine they'll settle in tonight after he's asleep.

REReader said...

Ha! I actually first typed "unless John says it's okay" and then deleted it--I should have left well enough alone.

The degus will also have time while Sherlock is in school to explore their new digs. I'm sure they'd rather play with him while he's home and awake--I have to think he provides them with plenty of mental stimulation and cuddles. :)

Greg Lestrade said...

The goos generally look fairly pleased, once they've checked we haven't taken their food, and they've had a dust bath. What a life, eh? We should get them some more twigs though, next time we're at the park.

Why... well, he'd just tried to kill someone, and was really quite annoyed that we thought he should stop before he finished the job. But after a bit of a struggle we persuaded him.

Was quite tempting to cuff his hands to some of the rings... but we were professionals and found him a blanket to cover him up instead.

John H. D. Watson said...

It would've kept him from trying anything quite effectively!

Greg Lestrade said...

That was our thinking. Although he was that angry that it might just have caused more damage.

Greg Lestrade said...

(that thought does make me wince, RR. Rings going in is one thing... coming out traumatically is quite another!)

REReader said...

*wincing some more*

Bad enough when earrings come out traumatically. Which is one reason I never wear hoops, only stud earrings. I dress defensively.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well, my little barbells feel fairly safe. I don't know if I'll get hoops when I'm healed. Maybe some, with diamonds, as I'm apparently not yet sparkly enough for Danger ;)

REReader said...

Almost anything is safe under a shirt! (I ride the subways at night and I walk through less than the best neighborhoods, I don't want to be victim of a snatch-and-grab is all.)

Diamonds, huh? That should be sparkly enough...for anyone but Sherlock. :)

Rider said...

BMWs are good bikes but most of the current models are ugly sods.

but then I'm a bit biased on the subject, seeing as my preferred touring bike is Italian! (But you put my Guzzi and the equivalent BMW next to each other, and the BMW is a crime against aesthetics in every way.)

Oh and Lestrade? http://www.thechaingang.com/product/276/125/genuine-diamond-double-prong-set-curved-barbell

Greg Lestrade said...

hmm, not quite my style, Rider. I don't go for gold, really.

Which Guzzi do you ride?

Anonymous said...

O.o...

I'm going to go hide in the corner now and whimper quietly. However, I am glad to see that everyone's all back in one piece!

Greg Lestrade said...

All in one piece, just with a few extra holes ;)

REReader said...

And a couple of extra accessories... :)

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm apparently not yet sparkly enough for Danger

You're exactly the right amount of sparkly as far as I'm concerned.

Rider said...

I used to ride a 1975 model (and have a 1973 model still) but my current steed is a Norge, a 1200cc touring bike.

It's a lovely thing - good looking, comfortable, and very capable on most surfaces. As I found out when I'd only had it a few weeks and ended up doing 200km or so of frequent roadworks ranging from serious potholes to gravel to slippery mud.

A genuine 1000km day bike, but still able to chase a 250 dirt bike through Sydney rush hour traffic. I love it to bits. (Of course over here in the Antipodes a bike that can do that sort of distance is more useful than it might be in smaller places...)

So, John, how was your mysterious meeting with Mrs H?
