We were going on a school trip to the museum which was already good and fun and we had a little bus and then it broke down and when the man came to pull it away he let me pull the lever that makes the rope get tighter and keeps the bus from falling off!! And then we couldn't get all the way to the museum or really anywhere because Mrs T said she wasn't taking all of us on the tube so then we all had ice cream and waited in a little park while she tried to get someone else to come and get us and then there wasn't enough time for the museum but that's okay because I've seen it before and we can go at the weekend anyway and THEN there still wasn't anyone to come and get us so she called some of the parents to see if they could pick up their kids early and John came and got me from the park so I got to go home early from school and really there was no school ALL DAY and now I'm home and it was the BEST DAY EVER!

There were nine of us on the trip and there are more of us at school because the four, five, and six year olds are all together but the little kids didn't get to go on the trip, just us!
We should all go to the sea and throw rocks in and then get cake and and I should get another ride on Lestrade's bike!

Vegetables and cheese go very well together. The overstuffed omelet I made for my dinner involved a lot of vegetables and cheese, too. Good choices, Sherlock!

Though I had to laugh at this: Don't be sad! I'm going to make us dinner ALL BY MYSELF! Because it reminded me of a great memory. When I was in England last April, I got to meet a six-year-old niece, a five-year-old nephew, and a three-year-old niece I'd never seen in person before. I was the cause of a lot of excitement (the American auntie!) and the girls asked if I would watch their "dance recital." Of course I said yes. They got me situated in a comfy chair with a cup of tea and a blanket tucked around me. Then, when I was good and trapped, the older one said, "Okay. This is dance recital ONE of TEN." And I knew I was in for it.

School puts all kinds or restrictions on kids time and its not the nicest feeling sometimes, I can fully understand Sherlock wanting to spend the day at home with you instead of going to school. Maybe kids should get some flexible holiday like adults do so they could have the odd special day :-)

Oh, Innie, I laughed so hard at the ONE of TEN comment! So like kids their age.
Once they get that taste of freedom, L, it's hard to get them to go back. I was off work sick with a migraine last monday, and sure enough, suddenly my six-year-old was sick, too. I don't blame them, though. Especially mine - when he's not in actual school he's still in camp, because we work. He only gets actual "time off" when we send him to grandma's or go on vacation. It's hard work being a kid, you know! There's so, so much to learn. I think their little brains get tired after a while. Well, not Sherlock's, maybe, but I bet he gets burnt out, too.
Once they get that taste of freedom, L, it's hard to get them to go back.
Oh, so true. But really, it's just as well you couldn't bargain Lestrade out of another day home, Sherlock--nothing can top an unexpected day off, so it's always a bit of a letdown if you stretch it out. And it did sound like you made the absolute most of your surprise day off!

Perhaps the insomnia has caught up with everyone RR and they're all asleep. Like my OH who is snoring loudly - I tell him to shut up every so often.
It's just that it's been a very beautiful day here in New York, I was hoping everyone has had as nice a start to the season, and that they managed to get out in it if so. (I settled for lots of open windows. :))

He did have a flash of genius by making vague threats about making Mrs T's life so miserable at school that he'd be sent home, but John put a very swift end to that line.

It's not too far until the Easter holidays now though. And he does like school! He just would rather spend time with us when we're both available, I suppose.

And for something completely different--we've started our Passover cleaning, which reminded me that I wanted to say:

Can I just say how much I appreciate that you manage to keep this in mind always? VERY, that's how much.
He's home! And we kept him some chocolate pudding because it's nice and Mrs Hudson made it so he doesn't even have to do anything and there's other food too but it's not as good as pudding.
Excellent, Sherlock! Chocolate pudding IS nice--not as nice as hugs, but very nearly. :)
He's getting hugs too because John's sitting right next to him and they're talking and he's already said hello to the degus and I ran down because I saw him walking up the road so he carried me back upstairs and then we had a big hug all three of us.
You are a lovely boy Sherlock I assume pudding came with lots of cuddles for all of you :-)

You guys really are the best - it's lovely to have such wonderful people to root for, you know? It's like you were all just made for each other, and that's a rare and precious thing.

How could we not wish the best for all four of you? you have all faced many challenges in your lives and you all have many reasons why you could hold up your hands and say 'please world go away' and reasons you could bury your head in a pillow and refuse to get out of bed but you don't. Everyday you get up, you live your lives and you love each other and whatever the world throws at you eventually you come through it together and stronger.
It's not rooting for you as much as seeking inspiration from you all :-)
I hope you are relaxed this evening Greg and that real sleep comes to you tonight:-)

I think more people are than realize it. It's "Sons of Martha" syndrome. It's my.favorite poem, and what I think of when I think of public servants like you and the Doc.
