fully equipped

We now have enough cold weather gear to launch an expedition to the North Pole, although Sherlock has pointed out that we should wait until we've baked biscuits because when we get to the North Pole, we'll want them to celebrate with. I told him I didn't think they'd last that long. He said he'd make extra. I also got a hoodie, so I can test it vs jumpers and prove L wrong.

I know it hasn't been that long, but I feel sure Mycroft has grown since the last time we saw him. Lestrade was joking about him being taller than I am, but honestly it's not going to be that much longer.  He's far more grown up and dignified than I was at fourteen. We got sushi today, and he uses chopsticks like he's been doing it his whole life. That sounds silly when I write it out, but at the time all I could think was that he's growing up so fast.

He's brought home a computer game called Minecraft where you build things out of blocks, which makes it sound like a game for small children, but you can build literally anything you can think of and there's some sort of wiring system and...I'm really not sure. He thinks he can make a computer in it. And he's helping Sherlock build his boat virtually before building it in reality.

We're now awaiting L's presence for biscuit creation, and I'm simmering the beef and broccoli thing, which ought to be done by the time the biscuits are.

Joking?

You better not have got a crap hoodie. You can't prove me wrong by buying a bad example of something!

Oh...just seen Sherlock chose it. You brave man.

I'm indirectly blaming you and your delusions about Roger Federer.

You have a sparkly unicorn hoodie?

(I don't think I'd even seen chopsticks when I was fourteen...)

John H. D. Watson said...

It's not sparkly!

I'd seen them...stuck them in my mouth to imitate walrus tusks...

Greg Lestrade said...

He...actually does have a unicorn hoodie! I...well..Jeez, John Hamish, are you gay or something??

And is there anything you don't stick in your mouth when you first see it?? ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

I'd just like to reiterate that it's not sparkly in any way. And Sherlock really liked it.

Greg Lestrade said...

Sherlock, I'll get the fabric glue, you get the glitter. We'll make his hoodie even better, kiddo :) we wouldn't want to lose him in the dark when we're camping, right?

Mycroft just told me it's better than my Christmas jumper... thanks, I think.

Customisation has to be the way to go ;-)

glad you got everything sorted John.

I may, possibly, have to agree with Mycroft on this one :-)

Minecraft looks like fun (I think friends of mine have been playing it for a while), I may have to try it out.

Greg Lestrade said...

It will be even better once the glitter and diamente are on.

John H. D. Watson said...

No glitter! It's just fine as it is!

I would like to point out that hoodies and sweaters are not mutually exclusive. I just went sailing wearing a hoodie over a motheaten cashmere sweater that I use as a warmth layer this time of year. And I've been known to wear a big bulkie cardigan over my hoodies. Although you may have to pick a sweater that goes with your rainbow, John.

Sounds like a great day. And now I want ...what did you call them, bourbons?... Oh, Goooooogle! I need a recipe!

This s pretty much the recipe we used:

http://englishmum.com/bourbon-biscuits-homemade-heaven-in-a-little-chocolatey-sarnie.html

They seem nice, but you could easily halve the amount of icing she says to make (or, as we did, double the amount of biscuity-bit...)

Oooh, yum! I got distracted among the recipes out there and ended up with a grocery list for pumpkin-maple syrup pie, but I'll have to add the ingredients for bourbons now. I wonder if my grocery store knows what bake-o-glide is?

Do many of the biscuity-bits get eaten before you can put them together with icing? Because as nice as the icing looks, I suspect I'd like the plain biscuity-bits all on their own!

RSF, I'm guessing bake-o-glide is silpat. http://www.silpat.com/ It's a non-stick baking mat that you put on your pan and your baked stuff slides right off. No grease or flour involved. Very cool.

We just used baking parchment/greaseproof paper, RSF. Worked fine.

Thank you, mnanon and L. The store is sure to have at lesst one of those options. And yay for not greasing the pan!

Bouncy bridge:

REReader said...

Oh, wow, Mycroft--that's awesome!

(I wonder how long it takes before someone falls into the river?)

REReader said...

(If it's actually built, that is.)

(Which I wish they would!)

Anonymous said...

That would be a seriously cool idea!

I'm not sure I'd want to bounce quite as high as some of the people in those pictures, but I'd still go out of my way to cross the river there instead of a plain old boring bridge. Thanks for pointing it out, Mycroft!

Greg Lestrade said...

That does look amazing, Mycroft.

I wish they hadn't fixed the wobbly bridge here. It was better when it wobbled!

REReader said...

This is not as cool as a bouncy bridge or as cute as a baby sloth, but it made me laugh: http://youtu.be/BLUTdmEoyDs

So, has Sherlock tried to convince everyone that you should really be on your way already? (Or in other words--Good morning and happy camping!)

Greg Lestrade said...

He's been sitting by the front door for about half an hour. But we're not going until after the morning rush, so I expect he'll get bored soon.

Anon Without A Name said...

Have a fun time, all of you :-)

Mycroft - I hope the skies clear enough for you to do some decent stargazing :-)

Have a great time guys. Hope it stays dry and you find some way to keep warm ;)

Don'T forget batteries. Dead torches are no fun if you need to get up to visit the trees in the middle of the night.

Sherlock said...

My torch has batteries AND a wind up bit so I can always see and if I go back in time before electricity it can still work.

We're going now and it's misty and Lestrade's singing to the radio.

pandabob said...

Have you made it to where you're going Sherlock? and have you avoided a headache from the singing? ;-)

Sherlock said...

No but we're almost stopping for food and I think we must be there soon. I hope so. I want to put up the tent and go to the sea!

pandabob said...

you must be going a long way! the sea sounds like a really nice place to visit, I hope you get there in time go and see it :-)

Sherlock said...

We had to stop a lot because the dogs were sick and also I think Lestrade got lost but he says he didn't.

Lestrade got lost but he says he didn't.

This is known as taking the scenic route. :)

We have a lantern that has a crank--it's very useful for blackouts!
