cupcakes

L crunched himself into some odd position at work today, as you've probably seen in his comments. As a result, I took his (my) bike home, and Sherlock took him home...via cupcakes and pizza. He's just said they have 12 cupcakes. Probably of all different icing and cake combinations. I think they spent at least half an hour in the shop debating.

I went to work in the allotment for a bit today, watering and pulling weeds and so on. The French beans have grown enormously:

Nothing else was that impressive, so no pictures. I texted the beans to L, and he suggested they were giant mutant city-eating beans. If this were a film, each individual bean in its pod would be an egg and hatch into something face-eating and horrible, but since it's not I think we'll probably just have beans more quickly than I expected. (Note: not more quickly than other people expected; I just had no idea how fast beans grow.)

My interview is Wednesday. I'm sure I won't know anything definite for some time afterward, but hopefully they won't take too long about it. I'm foolishly (and uselessly) nervous about it. Be glad when it's over.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help with the nerves.
But I know you'll be fantastic. And if they don't want you, they're just plain wrong :)

(They are mutant beans. I'm sure I saw some roots sticking down in the tube tunnels - they're slowly, silently, taking over the city...)

Thanks, love.

Will they grow giant, delicious pods? Thank you for saving me some garlic bread, speaking of delicious.

Greg Lestrade said...

They will. And we will be able to swap their beans with alien cultures for other, magical things. Just beware of giants. Can be dangerous.

You're delicious.

Sherlock said...

Are you going to see Mycroft tomorrow? Why are you going? When will the beans make ACTUAL beans? Lestrade said if I have a see-ess-ta in the day on our holiday I can stay up UNTIL MIDNIGHT EVERY NIGHT. I said yes. What is one of those?

John H. D. Watson said...

L - oh good. Maybe we'll get a giant, magical cow.

Sherlock - you've agreed to naps, I'm afraid. And I hadn't planned on seeing Mycroft tomorrow, but then we suddenly had a dozen cupcakes and he ought to have a couple of them, don't you think? And I don't know when the beans will make beans - probably not for a while yet.

Sherlock said...

He didn't say nap. Why do I have to nap? When do we get Mycroft back? He can't have the ones with the purple icing.

You can't have a giant cow if I can't have a giant rabbit.

I need to go and see Mrs Hudson about looking after my degus when we're in Italy can I take her a cupcake?

Greg Lestrade said...

(He says 'see' Mrs Hudson. I know for a fact he's talking to her today, and he has an exam paper she has to sit later this week... Mycroft, your school has a lot to answer for!)

John H. D. Watson said...

Siesta is Italian for nap. Or Spanish. Or both, something like that. If you want to stay up till midnight, you have to nap so you won't be too tired later on.

Do you want to pick which ones I take to Mycroft? And yes, you can certainly take one to Mrs Hudson, that's a nice thought.

I won't really have a giant cow, don't worry. I'm pretty sure they don't exist and if they did, one wouldn't fit in the flat.

Greg Lestrade said...

It's from the Latin, 'hora sexta'... I'm not saying ANYTHING about anything that might sound similar to hora sexta relating to getting you into bed after lunch... Nothing.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha. I begin to see your motivation for letting him stay up till midnight...

Greg Lestrade said...

Well, to be honest, we'll be out in town until then - and any day that isn't school, loads of other kids will be, too. I always was, as a lad.

But yeah, siesta is equally important.

Nicky said...

I remember you deciding to explore the cellar during siesta one day, and denying it flat to Nonno when he asked if you hadn't been sleeping, despite you being completely covered head to toe in cobwebs!

Sherlock, I hope you have a good book, or a laptop or something, because sometimes siesta can be a bit boring when you're young. But if you don't rest, you'll miss all the fun later, so it's best to try.

Hope you're feeling a bit better, Orio. I'm certain john is taking better care of you than you're taking of yourself.

Sherlock said...

I have LOADS of books, but John never lets me take enough but I will take extra just in case. And bubbles.

Greg Lestrade said...

I remember it too...You completely grassed me up!

Sherlock, bed! We will sort out books. And maybe ereaders and tablets and laptops or ..something.

I'm sure we can get bubbles over there.

Greg Lestrade said...

...just seen the news announce our moving plan. Bye bye NSY.

John H. D. Watson said...

Well. That's...something.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm assuming we'll still be called New Scotland Yard. Because New New Scotland Yard would be silly.

REReader said...

Newer Scotland Yard?

Greg Lestrade said...

...for those of you doubting how seriously some countries take Eurovision - the President of Azerbaijan (dancer trapped in a box) has ordered an enquiry into why Azerbaijan didn't give Russia 12 points... Serious stuff!!

John H. D. Watson said...

It would be silly. I hope they don't rename it something entirely different. That would just be...odd.

Greg Lestrade said...

They've already said we're taking our revolving signpost with us. As if anyone else would want it...

So I presume we will remain New Scotland Yard.

Moving into the old Whitehall nick, which has been abandoned for 2 years. Onwards and upwards...

John H. D. Watson said...

They could probably auction it off for quite a bit.

Greg Lestrade said...

Some crime lord would probably buy it, use it to play hoopla with, using quoits made of rolled up McGarretts...

Can I request use of your healing hands? I'll write you a reference for your interview, saying you can almost literally use them to bring life back to the dead...

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, of course. I'll do my best. Bed?

Rider said...

Bride of Scotland Yard? The Return of Scotland Yard? Scotland Yard III? Scotland Yard Is Back?

Greg Lestrade said...

Bed sounds good.

Rider - Scotland Yard Episode Three - Revenge of CID?

Greg Lestrade said...

probably be better if it was 'Scotland Yard Episode Three - Revenge of the Filth', actually...

Anonymous said...

Auction off signage, hire more DI's. I like this plan.

Greg Lestrade said...

Auction sign, clone John, sell those, buy more DIs... isn't this exactly the scenario all those bigots in Parliament think will happen if we allow gay marriage...gay docs and DIs tking over the world!

night

Greg Lestrade said...

Hope everyone in Oklahoma's okay. Sounds terrible.

parliament homophobes will blame the friends of dorothy...

Anonymous said...

Wait, you're going to clone John and then sell the clone? I don't know if that's allowed. Surely, a John Clone could just wash all the socks forever and always, and then Original John wouldn't have to.

Also, you forgot "corrupt the children." ;)

Hope everyone in Oklahoma is safe as well. And I hope Congress rustles up relief and recovery funds with a minimum of "we're not sending any money anywhere without cutting money from the budget somewhere else!" fuss and nonsense.

Small Hobbit said...

At least you'd know there's be a ready market for John!clones - I'm guessing that several of us on here would be at the front of the line when they go on sale.

And thinking of everyone in Oklahoma.

Greg Lestrade said...

I think a combination of painkillers and John massaging me sent me a bit loopy last night. That didn't make much sense, did it? I don't remember writing most of it.

REReader said...

I hope you're feeling rather lass uncomfortable this morning.

Anonymous said...

Wait, you mean the homophobic parliament isn't living in fear of the possibility of you building an army of clones and then selling them for nefarious purposes?

REReader said...

Nah, they don't need to worry--you'd never be able to bring yourself to sell them!

pandabob said...

Whatever the cause of them your late night ramblings made me laugh Greg ;-)

Are you having a good day? have you managed to get out of your chair? ;-)

Greg Lestrade said...

I am - much better today. But I did get up early and walk into work, which meant John had to cope with Sherlock even earlier than usual :)

And I've been making sure I don't stay in the same position for ages, and John gave me some stretches and stuff to do, too.

John H. D. Watson said...

Coffee/sandwich? Walk in the park?

Greg Lestrade said...

Yes, sorry, brilliant. Walk? With Sherlock, as it's nearly that time?

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, we'll come by after I pick him up if that's good? I'm just on my way there now.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yeah, great. i imagine there will be cake?

John H. D. Watson said...

I admit, it seems likely. Sherlock at least will be having something that's not cake first though. No matter how many sad faces he makes at me.

Sherlock said...

Ice cream? that's not cake

Greg Lestrade said...

Hah, good try!

Readaholic said...

Finally finished reading both the blogs from beginning to current! Now I can allow myself to comment.
It's very interesting to your relationship change and grow, and I applaud both of you for continuing this so long and commenting so often.
P.S. Sherlock and Mycroft- Both of you contribute something quite lovely to the blogs.

John H. D. Watson said...

I was tempted to say something that's neither ice cream nor cake...but the naming of sugar-laden things could go on for hours. :) Mycroft says thank you for the cupcakes, by the way. I got there when he was at lunch, so I got to see him for a minute (although someone informed me on the way out that 'lunchtime visits are not encouraged').

John H. D. Watson said...

Readaholic - thanks, and welcome! I'm impressed you've managed to read them all the way through. I don't think I could do that at this point.

Readaholic said...

Sigh. First comment ever on a blog, and I make a grammar error. "It's very interesting to watch your..."
John- Thanks! That's why I went with Readaholic, since I spend pretty much any spare time reading. It took me this entire spring term at college to get through them in my spare time. Quite a lovely break to have from schoolwork though!

Small Hobbit said...

L - I misread your comment and thought J had given you sketches - so that you knew the correct way to sit.

Hi Readaholic!

Greg Lestrade said...

Readaholic - hello! Can't quite believe you've read it all. Well done...or something.

I'm way too scared to go back and read it.

Welcome, though, and may those be the first comments of many :)

SH - He virtually did! ;)

Readaholic said...

SH- Hi!
L- Thanks! I can't believe I have actually caught up.

Anonymous said...

What will you do if your beans are ready to eat while you're away?

Greg Lestrade said...

Anon - Sherlock will forbid it...

I don't think they will be though - they'll be as tall as me before they're ready to eat, I imagine!

Readaholic...going to have to get you a shorter name. Reada? RH? I can't believe you have either - but don't worry, we're not often short of things to say around here.

Danger - want a stirfry? Or I might make courgette pancakes...hmm.

John H. D. Watson said...

Both sound good. I think I'm in favour of courgette pancakes though.

Readaholic (Now RH?) said...

RH is fine, especially since it reminds me of the Rh factor. I'm such a biology nerd. :D

pandabob said...

Your plans for dinner always sound so yummy guys especially when I haven't even thought what I might have for mine yet!

Hi RH :-)

Greg Lestrade said...

I spend a lot of time thinking about food :)

Just leaving, Danger. Going to walk so...be a short while.

Sherlock said...

Where ARE you are you kidnapped again shall we rescue you?

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm nearly there! I had to buy dinner things. I got chocolate tart and ice cream for pudding.

pandabob said...

now I really am jealous! Chocolate tart and ice cream!! ITS NOT FAIR!

REReader said...

It does sound delicious! (Also it's a nice combo for easing a bit of worry.)

John H. D. Watson said...

We'll have to clone Lestrade as well so he can work his kitchen magic elsewhere...except I'd want to keep all of him I'm afraid. ;)

pandabob said...

so you'd find good use for many versions of him would you John? ;-)

John H. D. Watson said...

I can think of a few. No cloning in the flat though. I'm sure I made that rule for a reason...

pandabob said...

there might have been a reason but was it a good reason?

Although I think from what I've heard the flat isn't really big enough to get into cloning to any great degree if the clones aren't for sharing ;-)

John H. D. Watson said...

It's true - any more people/animals/plant life packed in here might be proverbial last straw.

Greg Lestrade said...

Problem is, the more yous we cloned, and the more mes we cloned, the more the mes would want to stay with the yous....

We would definitely need Greg the Florist's castle. Once it's been fully cleared of all spooky goings on.
