filo triangles

First attempt. Started to go a bit better after this and they're in the oven now. Did you know you can make spitballs out of filo dough? Sherlock's big discovery of the day. Typing this on my mobile is not fun so thats all for now.

John, sooooo sorry to hear about the spit balls. When I did this with my 3 year old, we had a good time, but I suspect she is more likely to take direction than Sherlock.

Most of them were actually directed at the ceiling. So, bright side: I was not hit with spit balls. Slightly dimmer side: Our ceiling now has about twenty wads of saliva drenched filo stuck to it. He didn't try to hit Mycroft with them, so I'm calling it a win.

You are braver than me! Filo seems like so much work.

It wasn't so bad, really. Just a little finicky getting it to stay in one piece.

Did you have to deal with stack or rolled up dough?

I tried to make baklava one time and...well, that didn't end so much like baklava, still sticky and tasty but I couldn't get the sheets apart correctly so I just peeled apart half inch thick sections and layered that. It was...an educational experience.

(Just take a carefully maneuvered broom to the ceiling, easiest way to get spit-wads off ceilings I've found).

It came rolled up and frozen, and in fact the worst part was when I realized it needed to defrost overnight in the fridge and then sit at room temperature for two hours before we used it. Oops. That put us back a day. The unrolling might've gone better if I'd waited the full two hours, but the boys were hungry.

Baklava sounds frankly terrifying. Did it taste good anyway?

(That is probably a better idea than my plan of waiting for them to fall off on their own.)

At least you read instructions, I didn't wait for proper thawing and I let the dough dry out too much.

It ended up with too little nuts but it was soaked in honey so, yeah, tasty. I'm still going to leave it to my local bakery for my future consumption though.
