John, I don't think you can say "I love you" wrong. Anyway, he knows. But in case his skull is really thick, just keep telling him.

Sleep tight!

anon anon said...

Oh John... LOL. So Lestrade posts drugged and you post drunk? I wonder if you'll be as unembarrassed in the morning as he was...

Anonymous said...

John - He knows. Trust me, he knows. Would it be out of line for me to say that both of you are adorable?

Now, of course, why are you posting whilst drunk? Go cuddle that handsome man of yours!

*still giggling*

Greg Lestrade said...

I do hope he isn't hungover when he stops sucking his thumb and wakes up.

And I do know. You tell me perfectly well. And I love you too, really a lot.

Anon Without A Name said...

Awww. There's something unutterably sweet about someone who isn't normally terribly demonstrative getting a bit tiddly and trying to make declarations of love, as if their partner didn't already know.

John, I'm not sure that you could get more adorable if you tried. Lestrade - you too :-)

Tink said...

Greg made his tipsy declarations over on the last post in the commentary :D

You both are so wonderful to watch being in love. It makes me smile so much.

mazarin221b said...

Oh goodness, this made me tear up a little this morning. Don't ever stop being incredible, guys. *hugs*

John H. D. Watson said...

So...I can just delete this now, right? I should never drink champagne.

Greg Lestrade said...

You could delete it if you want. If you regret saying it.

John H. D. Watson said...

I don't regret saying it, but I could wish I hadn't said it so poorly.

Greg Lestrade said...

It was from the heart. And made me smile probably very goofily this morning when I saw it.

You can edit it, and add a translation?

And you should definitely keep drinking champagne.

John H. D. Watson said...

And made me smile probably very goofily this morning when I saw it.

Then it's accomplished its purpose, and I'll leave it. Well. Maybe with a title. And I think I have a 'don't drink and post' tag.

It was from the heart.

Yeah, it really was. Is. I'm glad you know that.

And you do have pretty eyelashes.

Greg Lestrade said...

Good. I'm glad.

And of course I kow that. You absolutely show me how much you care for me, all the time. And if I don't seem to be...reacting the way I should, it's not you, it's me and my own self doubt, and that's not your fault and nothing to do with the way you exoress yourself at all.

Thanks. I shall flutter them at you now.

And hope Nicky gives you some form of hell for this over dinner tonight.

John H. D. Watson said...

It's not you or anything you're doing, or not doing. I promise.

And I shall hope all her hell is reserved for her darling brother, even if he is wearing boxers.

Ro said...

Oh my god, you two are gorgeous! this is the cutest entry ever! Sweeter than the very yummy salted caramel macaron I just ate that my flatmate made!

Just got home from a gig (it's 12.40am here). Went to see a great New Zealand band called The Bats, who have been together 29 years and were launching their latest album. They even finished with my favourite song of theirs, North by North. So good! Here's a link - if you haven't heard and want to give it listen. Now I just need to wind down before I can get some sleep.

Tomorrow, for something totally different, I'm going to see the Kronos Quartet perform their Sun Rings, which includes sounds recorded in space! Very exciting. God, I'm such a geek!

Enjoy your holiday, guys. Hope you have a great night with Nicky & the kids.

Greg Lestrade said...

You'll have to compliment her eyelashes and see if she let's you off.

Today and tomorrow are both meant to be gorgeous weather. So tomorrow we could take a slow ride back, stop somewhere for lunch again?
And today...I shall buy you more ice cream, and a cook book and maybe even a jumper to wear clubbing. Hah.

John H. D. Watson said...

I think the man at the bookshop remembers us. Why are you so intent on buying me a cook book?

She does indeed have very nice eyelashes, but not as nice as yours. (Sorry, Nicky.)

Anonymous said...

Glad you're having better weather than I am. We keep going from bright sun to pouring rain and back every half hour. We must be having good rainbows at least, but my windows don't face in the right direction for that.

Enjoy your dinner with Nicky.

Ooh, my word is pesto. Are you guys going someplace Italian for dinner?

Greg Lestrade said...

So you have something of your very own to work through and cook from. I've no doubt he remembers you, Danger. After you got a fit of giggles last time.

Kholly - don't know. Nicky is taking us somewhere.

John H. D. Watson said...

I couldn't help it after what you said about the banana peel. And you licked my ear!

It'd better be a pretty simple book then.

Greg Lestrade said...

We could get one that starts with how to boil an egg, and works on from there.

Your ears are very cute and lickable. Not my fault you can't control your squeals.

John H. D. Watson said...

That'd be about right.

There was no squealing! Anyway it tickled.

Greg Lestrade said...

I thought you were never ticklish, ever?
So when your phone goes off, and you read this, and I come up behind you and do THIS
You won't have squealed?

John H. D. Watson said...

...Absolutely not and you can't prove otherwise.

Anonymous said...

You guys are adorable, and I'm glad you're having fun on your trip! Enjoy the weather and each other! :)

Greg Lestrade said...

I could get the woman who jumped about a foot in the air to corroborate my story.

John H. D. Watson said...

Too late, she left. For some reason. I'm sure I don't know why.

Nicky said...

Oh, John, I am SO glad you two found each other.

Tell Gregory Martin Finchley that he better behave tonight, or he'll have to sit on his own.

We shall meet you outside the theatre at 8, if that's okay? And if you get a taxi in to town we can drop you back after, so the two of you can have a drink. If that's wise, after last night (I cannot believe you crashed someone's wedding reception!).

Greg Lestrade said...

Not at all sure Danger should drink. He might start writing overtures to your eyebrows or something.

And I always behave! Occasionally badly...but I always behave ;)

John H. D. Watson said...

Nicky - so am I.

That all sounds good, thanks. I cannot guarantee what sort of behavior your brother may or may not exhibit...

L - it was a lot of champagne! You were as pissed as I was, you just didn't say anything online.

Greg Lestrade said...

Indeed. No proof of my alcohol intake at all.

I didn't end up writing odes to your bodily hair.

'oh, stubble, spikey 'pon thy chin,
How I dos't delight in,
Kissing thou on thy scruff,
And smooching thee, you bit of rough...'

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha! Genius, sheer genius.

Shouldn't it be 'thou bit of rough'? I'd say ask Mycroft, but I think he'd roll his eyes so hard he'd hurt himself.

Greg Lestrade said...

I got completely confused between though and thou, so played it safe with 'you'. Or not so safe, since everyone's a critic ;)

I think Nicky's mainly glad that whatever behaviour I exhibit, I will be doing it with boxer shorts on. Probably.

John H. D. Watson said...

It's still the best poem anyone's ever written about my facial hair.

Probably?

Ria said...

It's still the best poem anyone's ever written about my facial hair.

High praise indeed. I'm certain that multitudes of odes have been composed in extravagant praise of your hirsute visage.

John H. D. Watson said...

Do you want her to turn up with more pictures of you?

John H. D. Watson said...

Ria - Many thousands. Ha. No, I'm sure it will surprise no one to learn that L is the only person to be moved to poetry by any part of me.

Greg Lestrade said...

I didn't say I wouldn't wear them. But you clearly have some fetish for depriving me of them. So I can't promise all behaviour got up to will involve boxer shorts, or boxer shortages

John H. D. Watson said...

I promise not to steal the ones I've just bought you for at least a week.

Greg Lestrade said...

Good, cos I'd have to write more poetry...

Danger started out as a doc,
Then Nanny to Myc and 'Lock,
But Greg liked it best,
When he got undressed,
And got to work with his jolly big...

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha! I'm going to enjoy watching you get into trouble with Nicky tonight...

Greg Lestrade said...

She'll be too busy cooing over how sweet this post of yours is to bother with me.

You great big soft article.

mazarin221b said...

OMG, LESTRADE! I'm half-way between laughing and just floored.

(Why the heck I'm so shocked I have no idea.)

Greg Lestrade said...

Mazarin, I can only sincerely...blame John.

Tink said...

I'm with Mazarin XD Good lord man! Though, I have to admit, that was kind of brilliant :D

John: Still his fault people find you whilst looking for porn. :D But it's meant with love, which is the most wonderful thing about this. Well, that and the fact that your boyfriend is going to have a stunning literary career to support you both in your retirement. ;D

Anonymous said...

"But Greg liked it best
When he got undressed
And got to work with his jolly big ..."

Stethascope?
Oh, wait. It's supposed to rhyme, right?
Rock, then. :P

I'm counting on it. He could do a whole line of rather interesting greeting cards too...

L - You great big soft article.

I can only sincerely blame you for that.

Greg Lestrade said...

Wok, actually. His cooking's really coming along...

Nicky, where are you? I mean, apart from being four minutes late?

I'm going to be forced put my hands in John's pockets to keep warm, you know.

Nicky said...

We're just parking! Behave for five minutes!

John H. D. Watson said...

You forgot to tell him how to behave for five minutes...

Nicky said...

Oh, God. Well, just don't get arrested for anything indecent. That seems the most I can ask of him.

Appropriately, we're just walking down Gay Street, so nearly with you.

Ria said...

I have a feeling that cooking with a wok in the nude could only end in tears and grease burns in unmentionable places.

Anon Without A Name said...

I assumed you meant wok. I mean, what else could you have intended? Sock doesn't make much sense (unless you have a foot fetish), neither does rock, particularly.

Nicky - good luck :-p

Have a lovely evening all :-)

Tink said...

Again, with Ria on this one XD HI RIA!

Nicky: Since he's our adopted internet brother type person, can we (well, those that agree with previous statement) adopt you too? Because you're really awesome. Also, you can give us the dish about his childhood too ;D

John: Somehow, I'm thinking you don't mind so much! :P

Greg: Do you have your badge with you? Because you could always say you're undercover if anyone tries to arrest you for public indecency!

Greg Lestrade said...

Everyone - my little Sis wasn't being offensive, there really is a street called Gay Street. Jane Austin used to live there.

Now we're in a nice gastro pub. With beer. And behaving, because Mark is going to drive us home and we don't want to embarrass him. No taxi drivers will want us after John YELPED in the back seat on the way here, nearly making him crash.

And yes, Tink, I do have my warrant card. So I can tell them I'm already taking Danger in for Drunk and Disorderly later, and they won't arrest him.

John H. D. Watson said...

And whose fault was that! Not mine, I assure you.

Greg Lestrade said...

it's not my fault that I can't keep my hands off you.

You're too bloody lovely

John H. D. Watson said...

Pfft. I can't compare to you - not in your brand new boxers at least.

Anon Without A Name said...

And dare one ask if Lestrade is actually in his new boxers?

Greg Lestrade said...

You can dare to ask, yeah.

;)

John H. D. Watson said...

Unless he removed them secretly, he is. I wouldn't put it past him though.

innie said...

The two of you make me want to curl up with a bowl of popcorn and watch the show. You are so adorable together.

It would serve you right, though, if Sherlock read these exchanges and decided to become a nudist in response. That would also be entertaining, don't you think?

Greg Lestrade said...

There's an easy way for you to find out if I'm wearing them or not, Danger.

John H. D. Watson said...

Innie - oh god please no. And he'd still want to wear the wings.

L - what, right here?

Tink said...

Get him some hot pink or neon green boxers to wear with his wings and at least he'll be vaguely decent!

John: Go for it! *cheers*

Greg Lestrade said...

Sherlock does sometimes streak in the flat. Mainly when whichever bit of clothing he is intent on wearing cannot be located.

Danger - Well it would look slightly suspicious if we went to the toilet together, no?

John H. D. Watson said...

More than slightly, yes.

Greg Lestrade said...

So.

Anonymous said...

"Thee/thou" is a more intimate or personal form of the second person. "You" is more formal. DI Lestrade, you should be able to get this quite easily, actually - "thou" is the same form as "tu" and "you" is "voi" I believe. Apologies if I've misspelled any of the Italian. I learned Spanish, which has the same forms.

"Thee" is the object form and "thou" is the subject, which means that you would say "I(subj.) love thee(obj.)" or "Thou(subj.) hast (verb ending changes for second person familiar) a lovely bike(obj.)." Just remember that the subject is doing the verb to the object. ^_~

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm not going to 'check your boxers' in public, right across the table from your sister! Probably.

Greg Lestrade said...

Hsavinien - right, yes. First paragraph makes sense. You start losing me in the second.

Danger - you'll just have to live with not knowing whether I'm boxered or boxerless then...

Dessert?

Nicky said...

Orio, it's rude to blog at the table.

John, I'd be grateful if you didn't.

John H. D. Watson said...

Only until I get you back to the hotel.

Definitely dessert.

John H. D. Watson said...

Heh. Blog or check the state of his boxers?

Sorry, sorry - I won't do either.

Greg Lestrade said...

promises.

You could just put your hand in my pocket. Jacket pocket. And see if there are any boxers which aren't currently upon my person...

John H. D. Watson said...

We just got told off for blogging at the table and now you want me to have a grope through your pockets?

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm not even wearing the jacket!

And no, there are things I'd far rather you groped. But I know how little self control you have, so I won't tempt you down that route.

Yet.

John H. D. Watson said...

Maybe you'd better save it for your sweaty clubs and not while we're out with your sister...

Greg Lestrade said...

hey, I'm the one who had to give her The Talk - nothing could probably embarrass her more than that.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha! Oh Nicky, I'm so sorry.

Greg Lestrade said...

You should feel sorry for me!

Nicky said...

I wish I hadn't looked to see what you two were commenting about now!

And no, John, you should feel sorry for me. It was horrible.

John H. D. Watson said...

I feel equally sorry for both of you!

Greg Lestrade said...

It wasn't my fault you were...less informed than I thought you'd be!

John H. D. Watson said...

...Less informed how, exactly?

Nicky said...

I was a perfectly normal innocent fourteen year old! He was a far-too-well-informed gay teenager.

I think boys and girls discover and communicate about such things in different ways. I'd never even seen any dirty magazines.

But it worked in a way. Scared me off sex until I was old enough to know what I was doing!

John H. D. Watson said...

Lestrade! What on earth did you tell her?

Greg Lestrade said...

Nothing! I mean, well, everything, really. I suppose.

It wasn't a situation I was prepared for, and she asked! I didn't know she didn't know anything apart from what she'd learned in biology! And it's not like I was going to know much about how it all works for girls, is it??

Anyway, this is a family blog. I'll tell the blog when Sherlock's 16. You can do the talk to him. He'll probably correct you on a few things, knowing him.

John H. D. Watson said...

Heh. Nicky, if you asked I'm not sure you can really blame him...

anon anon said...

'Scuse me, hold on. As long as we're talking about sex education, did no one else see in the last post that John admitted to taking "study breaks" in the library?

Or did you really mean study breaks, John? In which case never mind.

Nicky said...

I didn't even know what I was asking!

I certainly didn't need to know anything beyond the normal, boring, safe sex and be careful type messages. I definitely didn't need to know anything about any kinks, fetishes or, really, most things Orio knew about.

I think he did it on purpose, to put me off.

John H. D. Watson said...

He knew all that back then as well? And here I was blaming the Met.

Greg Lestrade said...

I assumed you knew all the boring stuff.

Anyway, you obviously worked it out, Carla and Paul prove that.

Nicky said...

John, I blame London. I really don't think he can have known much about it living in the village! But once he got to the big city, my innocent little farm boy brother was gone for good.

John H. D. Watson said...

L - boring stuff? You haven't seemed bored so far... ;)

Nicky - I don't know, I think he might've found it all out almost anywhere - he has that kind of mind. Curious I mean, not filthy. Makes him a good policeman, among other things.

Greg Lestrade said...

Never bored with you.

Anyway, we should go. You have boxers to locate, ...things to do, to celebrate our last night of child-free holiday.

And then a nice swim in the morning, followed by a long ride home and undoubtedly a very, very, excitable Sherlock.

John H. D. Watson said...

Sounds lovely.

John H. D. Watson said...

anon anon - I took all sorts of breaks.

Greg Lestrade said...

...none of which he would recreate with me in the library here.

John H. D. Watson said...

For very good reasons. I'm not getting a policeman arrested for public indecency!

Tink said...

So are you clubbing tonight then?

Nicky: Did you survive the evening? Aren't they adorable? If sometimes down right shocking, but adorable!

Greg Lestrade said...

I wouldn't have been the one being arrested.

You're the noisy one...

John H. D. Watson said...

Tink - no clubbing tonight. I imagine all the places L knows are in London.

L - Hm. That's not how I remember it.

Greg Lestrade said...

You're correct.

Danger - you're the one that's been yelping, squealing and giggling around this city, scaring passers by and cab drivers.

John H. D. Watson said...

Because you keep...doing things! Unexpectedly!

Greg Lestrade said...

Ah, but in a library - your natural hunting ground - nothing is unexpected? You were terrible in the book shop...that's like a library. I think you'd have been a distraction to other library users if we'd gone in there.

John H. D. Watson said...

I can honestly say that no one ever snuck up behind me and licked my ear in a library.

Greg Lestrade said...

Well what on earth were they doing in there? Studying or something? It would have been criminal to waste such an opportunity.

Anyway, come on, there's a gloriously large bed here, a door that locks, and nine hours 48 minutes until we have to leave it.

You found those boxers yet?

John H. D. Watson said...

No, but I'm fairly certain I will soon.

Tink said...

I still think the sneakiest one was when he commented what he was going to do and waiting until you were reading to do it...

I know some kinky places here, but I've never actually been a part of the clubbing scene. >_> That said, I've been dragged to my fair share. It's fun to tart it up for a night ;D

Greg Lestrade said...

You're not doing a very good job...my jacket's over there, on the sofa...

John H. D. Watson said...

Hush, I know what I'm doing. I'm an expert.

Greg Lestrade said...

won't be distracted if I lick your ear again then? Or your neck. You do have a lovely neck.

...I think the phone needs to go at this point. Night all.

Tink said...

Niiiight! ;D

Anonymous said...

Okay, some clarification on the "thou"/"thee" thing. I thought up a better way to explain it. It's the same sort of thing as "I" versus "me". "I" is like "thou" and "me" is like "thee". If it's the bit of a sentence where you would use "I" when talking about yourself, then you substitute "thou", if you would use "me", then it's "thee".

Greg Lestrade said...

Hsavinien - I think I did it all right, didn't I? Anyway, next time I'm writing odes to Danger's body hair I'll be sure to try to remember...

Small Hobbit said...

Come back from holiday to read this blog. Nice to have something to smile about since the weather's about 20 degrees colder than Madrid. Glad to hear you two had such a good time.

L - I could have done with you when my wallet was stolen, but at least the Spanish police were very helpful.

X said...

Hsavinien---hah, I was about to provide the same explanation but with he/him. I always used that when I taught to help my student with who/whom, (and sometimes it even worked, lol!)

Lestrade, I'm pretty sure that most of us have forgotten the facial hair poem details in the wake of your fantastic limerick. I hope you're helping out with John's activities with his...wok. ;) :P Enjoy your remaining hours and have a good trip back!

Nicky, hope you had a lovely evening, even with those two behaving like randy teenagers right across the table. You have the patience of a saint!

Tink said...

Hope you guys got home safe and are now in possession of a Sherlock! How was the reunion? How's he doing? Are you guys refreshed and relaxed?

Sally: Hey, think you can sneak 'cattle rustling' onto Greg's CV somehow?

Greg Lestrade said...

We're home, thanks, Tink. Although gobsmacked more than relaxed right now.

X - I will definitely supervise his Wok work.

Small Hobbit - that's terrible! Pick pockets? I hope you didn't lose anything irreplaceable.

Small Hobbit said...

L - just cash, cards, driving license, but nothing irreplaceable. And the temporary filling in my tooth, but I don't think I can really blame that on the pickpocket. Moral of the story: keep your wallet well inside your backpack, especially just after buying a Metro ticket.

And I can now add "I've been robbed" to my stock of useful Spanish phrases, along with "have you anything for an insect bite" and "I don't like olives".

Is the gobsmacked due just to the reappearance of Sherlock or is there more to it than that?

Greg Lestrade said...

Hmm, well, glad it wasn't anything like passport - but still, it's an unbelievable hassle and a violation, having things taken. But yeah, I'd never keep a wallet in a backpack, especially in crowds.

Gobsmacked...I've put a new post up, which probably explains it all better than I could here. (which isn't to say very well, as words are failing me somewhat)
