This is Sherlock and I drew Lestrade wearing his uniform and also our tent because he told Mycroft we could go camping and I want to go near the sea and catch a fish. He's not camping in his uniform, it's only to show you what it looks like. I think it's kind of boring and he should have an enormous hat made of bears and a red jacket and shiny buttons but I told Lestrade that and he said then the criminals would see him coming and run away so maybe he's right, he's sort of like a ninja.
That's the sea in the background and I didn't draw any fish but maybe I will when I catch one.
Mycroft went to see his tutor so John and I did fun things like run around at the park and play tag with the dogs and then lunch and I did dog bowling outside because I'm not allowed to do it inside anymore and we tried to play Cluedo but it was stupid and the answer wasn't right and then John made me go the karate place and I thought it would be stupid but it was okay, I'd like to learn to kick hard like that. Then if bad guys came to our house again I could help Lestrade and John make them go away. Anthea says she'll come with us and watch a class to make sure they're doing it properly.
I'm going to be seven soon and I think that means I should get to walk the dogs by myself so you should all tell John that because seven is really old and I bet he'd let Mycroft do it when he was seven. Now we're going to have dinner, it's chicken.

Sherlock, that is a great picture. I think Lestrade looks good in his uniform. I agree he would look even smarter in a red jacket with shiny buttons, but he does have a point about the criminals seeing him easily. And I think it's a very good idea of Anthea's to watch the karate class to make sure they're doing in correctly.
Whilst seven is really old, I have a strong feeling that John will not let you walk the dogs by yourself, so I won't ask him.

I'm sure that you'll enjoy karate; I used to do karate when I was a few years older then you. It was hard work, and frustrating at times, but a lot of fun and very satisfying.

Seven is definitely older than six, and I'm sure that both John and Lestrade are impressed at how grown up you're becoming. Unfortunately, I think that walking the dogs alone is a bit more complicated than how old you are. I know that Mycroft has the dogs very well trained, but do they obey you as well as they do with Mycroft? If not, can you keep them under control when they don't want to behave (you might want to think about whether you would win a tug-of-war with them on the other side - maybe try that next time you take them to the park?). I think even Mycroft might not have been big enough when he was seven to have done that. Maybe though, if you're very nice to Mycroft, he'll work with you and the dogs so they do what you tell them, like they do for him?

That is a great picture, Sherlock! It gives me quite a good idea of what Lestrade looks like in his ninja-ish uniform. And I can see you have a really nice tent! Also, I really like that you showed the sun setting in the sea--I've seen lots of sunrises from the sea (but not sunsets because I live on the East Coast) so your picture really reminded me of that. I miss the beach!
I think karate is something you might like, so it's a good idea to try it and see. It can be very satisfying, as Nameless said, and it's a good feeling as you get better and better to know you can protect yourself, even if you never need to. And it's a very excellent thing that Anthea will check the class out to make sure it's a good one. Expertise is to be respected, and it's very nice of her to take the time to make sure you'll be taught right from the start.
Seven is quite grown up, it is true. But London is a big and busy city, and there are a lot of different things to consider. I think John is better able to assess the risks from London than I am from New York, so I have to defer to his expertise on that one. (I wouldn't think seven would be quite grown up enough for New York, I'm afraid.)
It's not a helmet, it's your hat!!! It got sort of tall because your head was the wrong size.

I can promise you that 7 isn't going to be old enough to take the dogs out on your own. I'm sorry, but honestly, Mycroft wouldn't have been allowed to either.
Nameless the dogs listen to me mostly, sometimes they don't come when I call them but they would have leashes when I was walking them so they couldn't run away, not like at the park sometimes. I think Mycroft should train them with a dog whistle.
You can see the brim part where it comes down! Sort of. Maybe I should use marker for that.
What about when I'm eight?
I can now. I'm sorry. It just did look a bit like a custodian's helmet - the big tall ones that PCs sometimes wear and policemen are famous for.
I'm not sure 8 will be old enough either. We'll see.

I don't remember ever throwing my helmet at anyone. Not very aerodynamic. Threw lots of other things at people though.

Sherlock, your picture is very evocative. I like the way your sea looks, and Lestrade is handsome in his uniform. But boy, that's a big fire! If we'd had a fire that big when I went camping at your age I think we'd have started a forest fire.
Seven is more grown up than six, but there are still things you won't be able to do because you aren't tall enough yet. (And when you are tall enough, you won't be able to ride on people's shoulders anymore.) I don't think you'll be able to walk the dogs entirely alone, but maybe you can practice with Mycroft or John there, to make sure that when you say "Heel" or give another command the dogs listen, and to work on getting your arms stronger for holding on to leashes and things.
Karate sounds like a great activity for you. It's something you can keep learning and doing and getting better at for a long time. And it takes a different kind of intelligence than being smart at school, which means it won't be boring.

Just checking in because people asked. Your good traffic thoughts definitely worked, we arrived with an hour to spare. Then my brother and my three nephews showed up and lugged all my stuff up all those stairs. It's great to have a good family.
Then over night my brother's car and my rental truck got towed because we had parked badly. But the tow lot isn't open on Sunday so instead of going back home today they had to stay. We made the best of it and went to play tourist. Over all it was inconvenient and probably expensive but not the end of the world. The truck was already empty. So now I can go off on my business trip this week and it will all be waiting for me when I get back.

Oh, wow I forgot the olympics were ending! Of course, I haven't been actually watching any unless it was already on, but what I saw was great.
The airtime here is so awful though: they were aired from eight to midnight, which I don't think worked out well for a lot of people. And my family kept getting spoilers from our relatives in Texas...

Poking around the interwebs, I gather NBC cut a big chunk of the closing ceremonies--quite a lot indeed--but what I saw was distinctly entertaining ( if somewhat baffling!). Really, an amazingly smooth-running Okympics from start to finish!

Technically, NBC didn't CUT The Who, they showed them later--after that really annoying sitcom and the news. Of course, I didn't watch the sitcom or the news, so I missed most of The Who anyway, since I had no idea there was more to come. :/

I dunno, L--we have PBS, which always has trouble getting people to donate. And there's BBC America, but you can't just get that by paying for it, you have to get a whole cable package of worthless channels at the same time. It's a conundrum!

He's been making it foreverrrrr. He scrapes it up with a fork so it doesn't freeze solid, it's little ice crystals.

Mmmmm, broccoli and cheesy pasta sounds better than the cold chicken I'll be having! And I have to say that farm with all the animals looks pretty awesome. (Ferret walking! Who knew?!)
Oh yes, ferrets can be taken for walks. They have little harnesses - I found ones with pink polka dots if you're interested RR. And I have seen people taking ferrets for a walk, but that was at an agricultural college, which probably explains a lot.
Heh, SH--I don't know that the city is the best place to raise a ferret, so I'll pass on the pink-dotted harness, thanks! :D But I love the idea.
I've seen people walking ferrets in London. Don't think they mind too much.
That actually got me interested, L! Unfortunately, being interested got me the info that it's illegal to own ferrets in NYC. :(
