1. Murray won - barely, he was two sets down against Verdasco of all people, not that he's bad, just that he hasn't historically be this good at Wimbledon. Anyhow, Murray's through the semis.
2. Our rings arrived today! I waited (again, barely) until L got home to open the parcel, even with Sherlock circling it like a shark eyeing an unwary swimmer with a bleeding head wound. He doesn't like unopened parcels, even when he knows for a fact that they have nothing exciting inside, and of course this one had something very exciting inside. Mycroft was very helpful in distracting him, although I caught him eyeing the box too. We were all pleased when L got home.
They look amazing. Well. They look pretty plain, I suppose, compared to some. But I love them, and of course it's impossible to see them objectively. I see them for what they mean rather than what they are, and yeah...amazing.

That's a really lovely thing to say. And true for me too. It's...yeah. :)
I am quite amazed the packet wasn't somehow tunnelled into from below, give who you're in the house with!
It wouldn't have surprised me!
We'd have opened the packet and found two hula hoops in there :)
When I spoke to Mrs Holmes the other day she asked if we'd decided where to spend our first night together. I promised we'd think about it :)
Do you have any thoughts on that?
not really. I mean...there's either the 'old' hotels, or the new upstarts, I guess. Depends what sort of thing we want to go for?
Hm, yeah. Just what we need, more decisions to make. ;)
True.
I sort of like the idea of a four poster bed. Just sounds...nice.
Want to wake up with you and get room service and not care who sees us because you're my husband and sit in bed with toast and the paper and nothing at all better to do with the day :)
you've got the rings, chosen a venue, sort of agreed a date and you're talking about the hotel for after!! Its so exciting and the joy you both have in it is making me smile right when I could do with a smile so thank you :-)
L - sounds perfect. :)
AnonyBob - it's honestly brilliant to be able to share our excitement with people who are kind enough to let us ramble on, and who are so pleased for us.
Danger - It'll also be nice not to have a small yet loud alarm call made entirely of elbows and knees wake us up early ;)
I wonder if caterpillars know where all their mates have gone when they turn to chrysallises? There's only a few still wandering about now, all the other tucked up and transforming.
They're thinking 'more nettles for us!'
probably.
Amazing colours. Although I've lost track of which are the gold ones, and which are the ones that look like they have just a dot of gold.
At first I thought Sherlock had painted them!
Are you completely sure he hasn't? Maybe a few sequins...?
think they'll come out not just with their own wings, but also with ostrich feather tails, like showgirls, and doing jazz-hands? :)
I fear he'll find this bit boring...
If they do, I'm filming it.
I'll tell them to wait until you're at work.
When is that? You said day shift this time, didn't you?
Yeah, on Friday. Mrs Hudson says she'll be around if you're at work.
Its so exciting and the joy you both have in it is making me smile right when I could do with a smile so thank you :-)
Can't say it better than that!
Yeah, I'm working. Too much having fun at the start of the week to get the end off too!
Mrs Hudson is a star.
...I want to try my ring on again. Did you put them somewhere safe? I sort of feel like we should just give them to Mycroft - safest pair of hands in this flat!
Only if I get to try mine on too... Yeah, I'll get them.
Course you do!
We'll definitely need to make sure the right ring goes to the right person on the day...don't want yours getting stuck halfway onto my finger... I suppose it's easier when they're not an identical design, or the size difference is really obvious.
Mycroft and Murray will sort it out. Or Mycroft will at least...
Ha! Yeah. Even if it comes down to scrawling names on the boxes or something!
Want to go swimming again at the weekend? Was nice last weekend. And Mycroft said he'd like to. Although we'll all have to be prepared for dive-bomb-Sherlock.
I'm so excited and happy for you all! Things are really picking up momentum now, and it couldn't happen to nicer people!
Pip - thanks, we're pretty excited!
L - love to, yeah. It's sort of nice to see him hurling himself around. He's so much more comfortable in the water now.
He is. Still occasionally a little over-confident... but yeah, it's nice to see him enjoying himself.
Bed? I feel like my brain's bee working far too hard recently. For little reward.
Pip - thanks. It's lovely knowing you lot are all on our side.
Bed would be great, yes.
(we have, in case any of you are wondering, removed our rings again. But I'm very much looking forward to our first night wearing them :) )
Echoing Pip with the getting excited! It's lovely reading about all your enjoyment in the run up to the ceremony.
And on Independence Day can I wish Happy Freedom Day to all those who are stepping away from things that held them back in the past.
Happy Independence Day, all who celebrate
"We live not by things, but by the meaning of things." ... yes, we are also very excited that the rings are in! Congratulations on being one step closer.
The idea of the "first night together" has amused me recently. It's not as if nothing has happened in your lives together before now. But it's still a lovely thing to commemorate. And a story for you to tell one another, in later years.
It's odd, isn't it, how things change?
I've been thinking about it a lot, mainly in thinking about my vows.
I just...and this might sound silly...I really like feeling like somebody wants me. And that's been detremental in the past. But I still want it. It still means a lot to me.
John may not want me after my horrible Gollum impressions about our rings last night though :)
I'm impressed, really, that you made it as long as you did before the Gollum jokes started.
But it's great to see so much joy.
SH, I like the idea of "Freedom Day", it's a lovely idea and one I'll keep around the next few days.
I was fairly impressed myself :)
Mycroft said it was better than my Beyonce impression....
And he was right! Just don't do it during the ceremony. ;)
(Is it that everything with a link gets stuck in the spam filter?)
No, I think it's random.
You mean when the registrar asks I can't say 'we does, my precioussssssss'? Instead of 'I do'?
That is exactly what I mean! Not unless you want me to be laughing too hard to say I do as well...
Hmm. Well, let me try without the link just in case:
I wish we could see your Beyonce impression, L--or your Gollum impression or both. :D
Happy Independence Day, Us-ians! (Hey, guys, maybe take a couple of minutes to read the Declaration of Independence? ;)) And SH, I REALLY love your idea of Freedom Day--Happy Freedom, all! :)
Danger - you'll have to do yours first! :)
It's interesting how times change. From independence then, to the popular opinion now. I think most Brits find humour in the fact that American tourists seem to hold our royal family in far higher esteem than we do. And how now large swathes of the population here would at least say we wanted more independence from the USA.
Hope you three boys are enjoying your freedom in the sunshine. It's bloody lovely. Outside the office ;)
Heh, heh!
Well, it was a very radical (and dangerous) thing to do 230+ years ago! But of course you could say it was colonists wanting to be treated as fully British citizens (and feeling that they weren't) that led them to break away from England, which is not inherently logical. :)
Happy Freedom Day! And may I just say thank you to everyone, everywhere, who has served their country to uphold freedom.
I hope everyone has a lovely day, wherever you are!
RR - you still owe us for the tea. So could you either pay for it or send it back ;)
can I wish Happy Freedom Day to all those who are stepping away from things that held them back in the past.
what a great idea SH :-) a perfect thought for the day :-)
I hope you're on the way home or even there by now Greg :-)
Hee, SH! Well...there wasn't any government yet here at the time of the Tea Party--other than the British governors of the colonies, who probably can't be held responsible--so you'd have to go after the descendants of those who might have been involved in tea dumping. And some 200 years ago, my ancestors were living somewhere in Eastern Europe, not in Boston!
Yeah, home thanks AnonyBob.
Sadly family don't observe working hours to cause trouble. Sometimes... I don't know what I wish for. People not to be arseholes, I guess. Especially people I have the misfortune to be related to.
It hardly seems too much to ask for, really. (Danny again?)
I'm so sorry Greg :-( blood doesn't make families but sadly it does make ties that are almost impossible to break!!
You know the old thing of if there's anything that can be done we will right?
Enjoy your time with your boys if you can or let them do what they can to help you feel better :-)
Thanks. There isn't, I don't think, but thanks anyway.
Sherlock is currently begging for some police equipment to take in for a show and tell session. I fear it will end up with me being part of that equipment.
Well, even if you just want to vent, we're here!
I'm sure you'll make a very excellent show and tell exhibit. :)
Just be sure Sherlock sticks to police related information if he does take you in, I'm sure there are some very embarrassing things he could say if he wandered off topic ;-)
