also presented without comment

All right, almost without comment. Except to say that he brought it on himself by laughing till I thought he might actually collapse, at the very thought of my moustache. Which was a fine, fine moustache, I'll have you know.
Thank you, Nicky!

And I can't laugh at all because he looks good with it, and also more than a little sad.

In other news, I wrote my parents (my mum really) about L. I'll leave the rest of it for later, once they've got over the shock of hearing someone's put up with me for six whole months and further that he's even got a proper job and actually wants to meet them. I think they'll be generally pleased.

Mum gave up badgering me for grandchildren when Harry got married and figured she had a better chance with them - Clara really wanted to adopt. So she should be all right with it, and she'll like L once she meets him. Dad... I think he's still just baffled as to why we can't both just be normal, which makes Harry incredibly angry and me mostly tired. He and Lestrade both support Arsenal, so at least they'll have something to talk about.

If there is, we have yet to find it.

Danger, I hope things go well on the parental front. Lestrade will probably charm them. He certainly sounds charming (when he isn't being dirty-minded. ^_~)

Respectfully, I have to disagree. We've found it. Oh God, Orio, what were you thinking? I'm going to have nightmares about that thing.

Please, please don't show me John's. I don't think my poor nerves would take it.

And I can't laugh at all because he looks good with it, and also more than a little sad.

It was mainly a painkiller induced haze of depression at having a broken leg, a trashed bike and being the tender loving care of my bastard of a husband. Can't imagine why I'd look sad.

And it's less full moustache and more completely unkempt and unwashed. But being off work meant I could do what I liked. the Met don't support facial hair experimentation, generally.

Sorry, that was a bit...well, sorry.

And I'm glad you've written to your parents. that what you were doing last night?

And I hope you have a nice day planned with the boys, until Sherlock goes off to his science class.

annoyedwabbit said...

Oh god. After that explanation, Lestrade, I just want to go back in time and give you a hug. D:

Greg Lestrade said...

Annoyedwabbit - that was a bit more blunt than I should have been. It was just a bit of a shock to see those pictures.

Didn't mean to be such a grumpy bastard.

Greg Lestrade said...

Danger, got news this morning that Bryan's signed his part of the dissolution. It can go ahead now, through all the legal side and any splitting of assets etc.

I don't know how I feel. Glad he isn't holding up the process, but terrified of the next step. That's why I was ... An arsehole, up there.

Sorry.

X said...

Oh Lestrade, I just want to hug you. I don't know if congratulations would be appropriate here, since you were hoping he would sign it without dragging things out further, but it does open up the next step, and dividing up a life is never easy. I hope it goes smoothly for you from here on out.

Also, sad or no, you're rocking the scruffy look. :)

John H. D. Watson said...

Sorry, love. I can take them down if you like? You were not being an arsehole.

And I'm glad he's at least not making it more difficult than it has to be. For the moment.

John H. D. Watson said...

that what you were doing last night?

No, a couple nights ago. I didn't want to mention it until I was sure I was going to actually send it.

Greg Lestrade said...

I was. You weren't to know. The last thing I want is to take things he did out on you.

You should leave them up. Like you were saying, our past is what makes us who we are, so...well, yeah. Who knows where I'd be if he hadn't done what he did.

Plus you should be warned that I shall revert to not shaving if we go.camping for a week. But no extra 'tache. Just long stubble.

And yeah, glad he's signed without having to get the papers served by the court. Just got to wait and see what he demands now.

John H. D. Watson said...

Well, I wasn't offended at any rate, so don't worry about it. I'm sure there have got to be good things that shape us just as much. Funny how it's much harder to think of them.

Plus you should be warned that I shall revert to not shaving if we go.camping for a week.

Hot.

You can post my moustache in revenge if you like. Or just keep it around for laughs. Well, assuming I can find a photo to email you.

Greg Lestrade said...

hot

Doubtful. And it's mainly grey now.

If you can find a picture, I shall debate posting it. Or keeping it for some revenge sometime.

Just had my hair cut. Why do they always put gel, or wax, or whatever 'product' in it when they cut it?? It's all...weird now. Sally wolf whistled me. I gave her yesterdays reports to file in revenge.

X - the problem, as I see it, is that I don't think we've got anything TO divide. He clearly does.

John H. D. Watson said...

I bet it looks great. Stylish. People are probably swooning in your wake.

What do you expect him to want? Do you have any idea?

Kira said...

New pics please... styling substance and all!

He's probably just out for a try... my brother went through this with now ex-wife - I'd use another term but kids might be viewing.

John - please share??? You can't have been immaculate at all times in the desert... is not possible! And if my fellow students were anything like you lot then finals MUST have been interesting!!

Greg Lestrade said...

I prefer being unstylish then.

What do I expect him to want...

Part of my pension, probably a lump sum, child maintenence for his not-so-inner child? Shirt off my back? Half my future earnings? Blood? Moon on a stick? Nothing would surprise me, not after last week.

He's clearly realised that while it might be nice to get rid of your old, boring, stupid husband for a string of toyboys, it also meant waving goodbye to your only regular source of money.

I can only hope the court (or his brief) see sense. Hopefully his brief will persuade him and make him mentally accept that. If the court just say he can't have anything then he's more likely to try to get it anyway.

Sorry I'm on a downer, just got lots to do in the wake of the last two days of work and now this and...i dunno.

How's your day? Sherlock seemed wildly excited this morning about the science class. Was trying to tell me things and brush his teeth at the same time, which was fairly unintelligible.

John H. D. Watson said...

Anything I can do? Do you want to get lunch?

I think Sherlock's big excitement of the day is the liquid nitrogen demo - freezing blown up balloons and cracking them, stuff like that.

Mycroft and I went to look at bikes. He found a few he likes, one in silver grey and two in different shades of red, and we might've found one for Sherlock with more black and less pictures.

Greg Lestrade said...

Haircut was my lunchbreak. Sorry.

And I can get in before Mycroft and say 'fewer' not less! (he gave me that lecture the other day!)

If I'm wrong now I shall feel very silly...

John H. D. Watson said...

No, I'm pretty sure you're right - and quite sure he'll tell me anyway. I'll learn eventually.

I'm restraining myself valiantly from asking whether you also had any sort of lunch on your lunch break.

In that case, Mycroft and I will be having ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream and nuts for lunch - the nuts make it healthy. He's looking at me like I'm mad, but everyone should have ice cream for lunch once in a while.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yes, that restraint was very valiant.

No, I didn't.

Is that just an attempt to make me feel hungry?

John H. D. Watson said...

No, just horribly jealous of our carefree ice-cream-for-lunch-eating day.

Do you want me to bring you by something later? We're taking the dogs out after we eat anyway.

Greg Lestrade said...

No, don't worry about it. Got inter dept. Briefing now for god knows how long. Might be late leaving.

Will try to be in a better mood by the time I'm home, sorry.

John H. D. Watson said...

No need to apologize, I don't think you're doing it on purpose. Just let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

We'll save you some ice cream. And hope Sherlock won't save you any liquid nitrogen.

Greg Lestrade said...

Cheers. This could go on a bit. (just escaped to find a file)
There's nothing to do when someone tells you not to apologise other than apologise again, is there?

Greg Lestrade said...

Bloody hell. Nearrly free. Home soon I hope, I'm knackered!7

Anon Without A Name said...

Sad things:

- my first thought on seeing those photos was that Lestrade looked lost;
- Lestrade, you apologise an awful lot for a man who really has very little to apologise for;
- John I'm so sorry that your Dad finds you baffling.

Good things:

- I'm with Elizabeth, Annoyedwabbit and X on this, Lestrade looks damned hot in those pics;
- John, I'm so glad you've written to your parents, and that they'll be pleased for you;
- Lestrade, don't be daft, grey hair/beard is definitely as sexy as dark, and I know whereof I speak;
- Bryan has signed the dissolution papers, and whilst this is terrifying, this has to be a good step along the path to getting the dissolution finalised and that fucker out of your lives;
- ice cream lunch!

Greg Lestrade said...

Just locking the bike up, home in 5 mins. Bloody hell, that was a long meeting.

I'd complain, if it weren't for my own good. I'm.starving.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'll heat up dinner for you, it was fish and potato and broccoli. For your own good? Really?

Greg Lestrade said...

Well, y'know, the case, the whole...what we've discussed. This was planning the next phase. So yes, lots of it for my own good, given the circumstances.

Thanks, dinner sounds good. And I'll tell you about it.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ah, that. Well. At least it probably wasn't boring.

Greg Lestrade said...

Boring...no.

Depressing? A bit.

Going to watch today TT highlights with me? Two guys died yesterday. A sidecar crew. But you should watch - it was the beginner's guide tonight. I recorded it.

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, okay. I've almost got Sherlock to sleep. Down in a minute. Or ten.

Greg Lestrade said...

sorry, entire point of the last comment was to ask if any of you were following the racing.

Too many hours of meetings and far too few hours of sleep meaning I forget what I started to say.

Greg Lestrade said...

Want me to come up? I'm probably more tired than he is. Might have a soporific effect?
You could tell us both a story.

John H. D. Watson said...

Only if you promise not to fall asleep. Don't think I'm up to sweeping you off your feet and carrying you to bed.

Marc S said...

Lestrade, is the race online anywhere? I'd like to watch, but it's definitely not on TV here.

Greg Lestrade said...

You sweep me off my feet every time I see you...

I can make no such promises though.

Marc, I shall find out for you. Do I assume you're not from the uk? I know some internet is region specifix, so i'll try to work out a way to see it abroad.

John H. D. Watson said...

Ha, triumph. He was really revved up from that science class today. I'm sure he'll tell you all about it in the morning, possibly before you're even awake.

Greg Lestrade said...

Nameless - I was fairly lost. And of course I have a lot to apologise for. Everyone went mad with the comments when i drunkenly declared my still-married status on here. I should have sorted it all out two years ago, not left it until i had to. Then I wouldn't have inflicted it on anyone else. John shouldn't be suffering because I'm a cowardly idiot.

John H. D. Watson said...

You had good reasons for wanting to avoid him. And you're not either of those - don't say mean things about my boyfriend.

Anon Without A Name said...

Stop it. You are neither a coward nor an idiot. You have a good man in your life who knows you and he's telling you different - listen to him.

And if you struggle to believe John, remember that both Sherlock and Mycroft are extremely perceptive kids, and they respect and adore you; if you were what you say you are, they would see through you in a heartbeat.

(Um, I don't really do "comforting" or "reassuring" very well. As you have no doubt noticed. But really. Dude. "Cowardly idiot"? Could you be any wider of the mark?)

humantales said...

I won't say things today wouldn't be easier if you hadn't done the legal stuff two years ago; clearly they would be. However, they would have been much more difficult two years ago, and you would have been doing it with little to no support (from what you've said/how you behave.)

Upshot: forgive yourself for the mistakes you've made in the past and resolve to do better. Only thing you can do.

(Cowardly idiot? Y'know, I've got this lovely bridge I could sell you . . . )

Greg Lestrade said...

Sorry. It's just...everything. Today, I don't know.

Tonight, if you wake up, can you stay? Last night when I woke up and you weren't there I thought - it's just, when I wake up, from a dream or something, it's sort of confusing, you know, dreams and reality and which is which. And last night...

I mean, unless you need to get up, for you, and then just do it, it's fine.

John H. D. Watson said...

Of course I'll stay.

Greg Lestrade said...

Thanks. Don't worry about switching the light on or waking me or anything, it's fine, whatever you want. I know you don't exactly want to be wide awake in the middle of the night either.

I think it's just everything going on. Getting to me. For the past couple of years I just slept in my office when I got like this. It's nice not waking up with a cricked neck and still wearing my suit.

John H. D. Watson said...

I mostly get up so I don't wake you. I don't mind staying at all. And I'm very glad you're here and not asleep at your desk.

Any word on when they're actually going to get this plan in motion, or are they still stalling?

Greg Lestrade said...

The past two days were a bit of a test. It worked. So I suppose that means it's in motion...whatever that will bring.

I need to go and sleep. Or try to. Coming?

John H. D. Watson said...

Yeah, go on, I'll get the lights.

I do so love when texts like that come in ebook format :D, especially with that cover image, hahah.

(Did you read the excerpt? Heh, it made me giggle more than anything else. Pity they didn't have a sample from the promised silver fox biker story.... ;) )

On a more serious note, Lestrade, I agree with your point that you two really don't have anything to divide. It doesn't seem like he has much of a leg to stand on if he claims you do, given the length of your separation; I'm hopeful that the court / any legal advisors in this will see that is the case. Best of luck, with both that and whatever mysterious case-related thing that's going forward now.

John H. D. Watson said...

X - oh god I didn't see the excerpt! I'm sure it's not meant to be this funny...

humantales said...

To be honest, this is the way I feel about most romances (and quite a bit of smut really.)

telling you I'll put you over my knee is going to take this conversation in entirely the wrong direction, isn't it?

Or the right one, depending on your preferences (or who's reading...).

John, I find a lot of published erotica of this sort to be more hilarious than not. I had to read a few when applying to work as a copyeditor for Harlequin (ended up at an academic press instead thank Godddd), and there was one where, no lie, the author described the woman spinning on her lover like a top.

Sexiest image ever, right? I hurt my ribs laughing so hard. (The fact that he was a knight with a time traveling urinal only made it worse --- I'm really not kidding.)

John H. D. Watson said...

time travelling urinal? What??

Greg Lestrade said...

Isn't that just called a Police Box? We've all heard those stories...

X said...

HAH! Found a review that mentions those parts: http://dearauthor.com/book-reviews/review-knight-moves-by-jamaica-layne/

To be fair to Harlequin, this isn't one of theirs. But ebooks were cheaply come by and I wanted to read up on the sort of thing I'd be getting into without actually having to be caught buying one ;).

(my apologies if anyone on here is an avid romance or harlequin reader and I've offended them. It's not my thing, but that doesnt mean it isnt or shouldn't be anyone's).

John H. D. Watson said...

L - no body part of mine will ever make any sort of disappointed noises at you, and that's a promise.

X said...

Ahahaa yes, and it also starts drumming on him at some point. I don't even know, Danger. But I bet it makes you even more glad to be dating Lestrade, from whom I sincerely hope no disappointed queeb sounds have ever come. :/

Truer words have never been spoken.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm certain you've made plenty of disappointed noises at me in the past 6 months. Mainly when I've been an idiot.

However, right now I'm more than willing to drag you into that bedroom...and be oblivious to any noises you might make as I snore.

John H. D. Watson said...

Sounds good. Let's do it.

Anon Without A Name said...

Oh dear lord.

Well, at least that explains the "disappointed queeb" comment that John made on the other post.

X - that is brilliant, thank you for making my morning start with a giggle :-D

Greg Lestrade said...

I didn't read it myself, but Danger read a bit to me last night when we were both being insomniacs. Can't say it was either erotic or soothing, but it did make us both laugh a lot. (i think he secretly rather enjoys reading it)

CoffinAndTwo said...

Hello Gentlemen! And Young Gentlemen-in-Traning :) Oh, and Those Who Follow Their Lives Religiously, too ;). Basically, hello All.

I have found your two wonderful blogs a few days ago and have been reading them ever since. I shall find proper words to describe them later, suffice to say I hope to find that kind of Magic with someone, someday.

I.) I should probably ask this later, after reading the rest of your entries (only Jun and Jul 2011 left), but I just don't understand somehing:

He's clearly realised that while it might be nice to get rid of your old, boring, stupid husband for a string of toyboys, it also meant waving goodbye to your only regular source of money.

Lestrade, have you been paying him money all this time? Some sort of alimony or other? On what grounds? You two have never had any children together so there was no need for child support; he was a total tosser after the break up (and quite some time before that as I understand it) so there shouldn't have been any pity inspired handouts. Why, then?

II.) I agree with the general population - full, salt and pepper scruff is sexy. Also, the Super - clearly jealous that you can pull that 'beatnik look' off and he cannot. (Also I suspect he's not getting any, whether he's married or not.) People like that tend to be grumpy for no reason.

Feel free to correct any errors I've made, Mycroft. Or anyone, really.

CoffinAndTwo said...

SomeThing, obviously.

Greg Lestrade said...

CoffinAndTwo - welcome. I feel like I should make a sarcastic comment about you finding the time to read our blogs so religiously...but as you're new I shan't be mean to you just yet.

No, I haven't been paying him all this time. I gave him the odd hand-out when we first split and he tracked me down to a friend's house - just to keep him off my back. But when I moved into my flat I asked everyone to keep the address quiet, which stopped all that.

I just meant that he's obviously got through enough toyboys now to realise splitting up with me meant he didn't have a steady source of income to leach off, and the young pretty blokes he's been having fun with ever since have no interest in bankrolling his habits. That's all.

I assume you'll throw yourself into the commenting fray, once you've caught up? Feel free to! The more the merrier, I think?
