you are all lovely people

This will not be a long post because I'm having too much fun. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who left me happy birthdays, you are very kind, and I appreciate it a great deal. Especially Sally, since her threats were instrumental in me getting L to myself this weekend. He hasn't had one single call. Sally, I'm extremely impressed.

And I got cards! One from Lupe and two from Lestrade, one of which I'm not sure I should post, but I probably will anyway.

Lupe's:

Someone remind me to tell you about my old flatmate and his rum balls at some point. Later. When I get home.

Lestrade's #1:
someecards.com - I'd like to take you out for your birthday when it's convenient for me

Which was pretty funny, as I got it before I knew we were going on this trip and exactly how much he'd inconvenienced himself over this. I find myself wanting to scatter little html hearts through this post, which I suppose is one of the many dangers of being disgustingly in love. Don't worry, I'll restrain myself.

The second one is arguably not safe for work, or at least you wouldn't want to read it out loud to your boss. Probably. I don't know. Maybe you would. Most of my COs would've appreciated it.

Lestrade's #2:
someecards.com - You're only as old as you feel while getting wildly fucked

Words to live by.

I think one of you must've reminded Harry as well. I got an actual paper card from her, which hasn't happened for a few years. Thanks, Harry. :)

Have a lovely weekend everyone, and thanks again.

It's not an inconvenience.

That entire week on the night shift? You were nearly asleep on your feet by the end!

John, I'm so glad you've managed to wrestle Orio away from Scotland Yard! And very pleased to hear you're all having a lovely time. I'm quite jealous.

Belated Happy Birthday, from all of us.

Nicky
xx

p.s. Hope none of you have forgotten it's Mother's Day tomorrow! Although it's a bit late if you have. You can't get out of it with an eCard, Orio - she still doesn't have a computer.

It was four nights, and it was worth it to make sure we weren't bothered while we're here. And I do have to do them sometimes, this was just a little extra motivation.

And I didn't forget, Nicky. Sent a card before we left. Hope the kids treat you to something tomorrow. Not sure what Sherlock and Mycroft are doing/have done. Skywriting? Smoke signals? Telepathic communication?

Mycroft said...

I sent her a card for both of us. I'm not sure when she'll receive it though; I believe she's out of the country.

Greg Lestrade said...

See, Nicky! We're all there ahead of you. (Mycroft, she'll know you're thinking of her, anyway. You can always send an email/text/call her too, if that might be more immediate. Maybe it won't...I don't know.)

Apart from John, who's being suspiciously silent...but presuming he knew about Mycroft getting a card, he surely can't have forgotten his own.

Do Nannies count under Mother's Day? I sort of think they should...at least half count.

Christ, Nicky, you practically gave me a heart attack- I didn't know you celebrated Mother's Day in the UK, much less that it was on a different day. Of course there's no reason at all it should be on the same day as in the US, it just took my brain a second to catch up! (Ours is in May.)

X said...

Haha, Lindsay, I had the same momentary panic too, because it's in May in Canada as well. I would be doubly in trouble for missing it since my mom's birthday is close to when Mothers Day tends to fall. Eep!

Heart failure aside, glad the birthday continues well; those are fabulous cards!

John H. D. Watson said...

Thanks, Nicky. He wrested himself away really. When is the last holiday he had anyway?

Lupe said...

LOL, those cards by Lestrade are made of win! XD And I'm glad you liked mine. :3 I'm envious of your wonderful weekend, you should tell us everything about it once you get home! :D

Nicky said...

Oh my goodness, Lindsay, X, I'm sorry! I knew Mother's Day was celebrated at a different time in the USA, but I never thought I might cause panic. Apologies!

Orio, I'm glad that you've remembered - Mum will be pleased. We're taking the kids down to see her tomorrow, so we'll tell her all about your trip. (She has asked me about John, you know. I had to say I hadn't met him yet. She's not impressed! I've been told I must give a full report when I finally meet him over Easter.)

John - I'm not entirely sure. A proper holiday, away, probably not since he was with Bryan (and that was over two years ago)? He's had days off here and there, come down to see us a couple of times, but that's not really a holiday, with my two making so many demands on him! You're clearly very good for him - in every way.

Two years! I'll have to see if I can entice him away from work more often. And to meet your mum, assuming she still wants to after your report. ;)

Greg Lestrade said...

You could entice me most places.

And of course she will. Probably to warn you about me.

John H. D. Watson said...

I think she's a bit late, there. What would she warn me about?

Greg Lestrade said...

Well, the last time she and I lived together I was about 16. She'll probably tell you I leave all my dirty clothes on the floor, never tidy my room and stay out too late.

And possibly hang about with the wrong crowd...

John H. D. Watson said...

Assuming policemen are the wrong crowd (arguably true), all of these still seem to apply. Hm....

Greg Lestrade said...

I don't leave dirty clothes on the floor! Technically, you're the one ripping them off my body and throwing them on the floor.

John H. D. Watson said...

Not always. I found eight and a half pairs of your socks under my bed the other day. Haven't you missed them at all? I don't think I have more than ten or so pairs total.

Greg Lestrade said...

My Mum gave me a small country's entire annual output of socks at Christmas, so no, not missing them.

And I maintain that's probably your fault.

John H. D. Watson said...

I have no memory of de-socking you in a frenzy of...well, of anything. But I suppose it's possible, since I don't remember you ever being naked with socks on.

Have you got a single sock somewhere with multicolored polka dots?

Anonymous said...

I have a lone sock with multi-colored polka dots, but if under your bed is where my missing socks go, I'm going to be very very weirded out. Though, I suppose it could be evidence for wormhole theory . . . Hmmm.

John H. D. Watson said...

I'm pretty sure this is a man's sock, but you never know. What colors are the dots? These are mostly earth tones.

Anonymous said...

Hmm. Mine are mostly day-glo so probably not. Though with my ginormous flipper feet, the size could be right. Sad, huh?

Bronwyn

Greg Lestrade said...

That doesn't sound like any of my socks. Should I be worried? Because apart from the wormhole theory I don't know how other mens' socks get under your bed.

John H. D. Watson said...

Same way the sock full of quarters got in my things from Afghanistan? If it's not yours I'm at a loss. It's certainly not mine.

Greg Lestrade said...

Polka dots aren't really my thing.

Still, I'm glad you discovered and bogged about the sock. If I'd found it I really would be worrying. Unless this is an elaborate public double bluff...

And I don't do the 'naked with socks' look. Nature made naked men look silly enough without my help.

John H. D. Watson said...

Yes, I'm definitely that devious, you've found me out.

Greg Lestrade said...

I'm sorry, I didn't mean... I don't exactly know what I didn't mean.

I do trust you.

John H. D. Watson said...

Sorry, sorry, just a joke!

John H. D. Watson said...

I know you trust me, honestly.

Greg Lestrade said...

Now my comments aren't posting. I think someone's got it in for me today. I mean someone on high, not just the usual scrotes.

I said, blame tiredness, stress and me being a paranoid idiot.

And i'll come round tonight if it's ok, but I'm too knackered to cook.

John H. D. Watson said...

More than okay. Bad day?

Mrs Hudson said she's cooking anyway. I don't know what, but I'm sure it'll be good. I think she thinks I feed the boys too many sandwiches.

Greg Lestrade said...

Yes.

And that's kind of her. We should get her something for hound-sitting last weekend.

Greg Lestrade said...

I won't be there until late, though. I'll have whatever it is cold.

Sorry, I had the foolish idea that I'd get some time with you before I go away.

John H. D. Watson said...

Sorry your day's being horrible. I'll heat it up when you get here. When do you have to go?

Greg Lestrade said...

Thursday morning. Basically everything I said last week was the truth...except last week it was the joy of a weekend with you, this week it'll be the torture of a weekend with 50 or 60 old coppers.

And my day isn't anywhere near as bad as it could have been, just the same amount of stuff needs to fit into three days as usually fits into 11. Plus another death threat, and various other hassle from all sides. Generally above, so impossible to ignore. I'm sure you know they sort of thing. Spend more time explaining why things haven't been done than you would if you just did it.

John H. D. Watson said...

There's still tomorrow night then, at least. Yes, I do know the sort of thing, unfortunately. They can never just say do it and then let you get on with it. There has be an hour of why isn't it done yet first. One of the things I did not enjoy about the Army.

Are you the only one who's got two? Death threats, I mean.

Greg Lestrade said...

No idea on the death threat front. This one was more general. We'll all regret it, we'll die like dogs, that sort of thing (not those words, investigation means I can't tell you what it really said. Well, that and the fact kids read this.) Really haven't got time to die right now, so just sent it off to forensics and logged it.

I promise I'll try to finish on time tomorrow. Pray London is crime free.
