Hi I'm writing this instead of John because John is talking to the fridge man. We put all the vegetables in Mrs Hudson's fridge yesterday but the ice cream wouldn't fit in her freezer because of all the things she has in there, mainly biscuits but also other things that aren't as good, but Lestrade always wonders how she has so many biscuits, so that's how.
Also Kira asked if my school was doing a show or anything for the end of the year and we're not, which is good, there wouldn't be any time, we don't even really have enough time to mummify Harvey the fish properly because there are lots of rituals and it takes a month but I think it's okay to do it faster because he's much smaller than a person although it's sad we didn't get to pull his brains out with a hook. Do you think maybe next year we could do a whole person? John told me some people get frozen when they die, or turned into diamonds, so there must be someone who wants to get mummified and we'd be really good at it after we practice on Harvey.
We are having a day with races and things where the parents come to watch, except I don't know if Mummy's coming, but John will and I hope Lestrade will too and Mycroft said he'd do the three legged race with me although I had to ask him for days and days before he said yes. There is also one where you carry eggs on spoons and one where you toss pancakes over strings and I think Lestrade would be really good at that one, he's a good tosser, but I don't know if the grow ups are allowed to do it.
John is shouting at the fridge man now. Not really shouting, but John can shout without being loud. The fridge man said he couldn't fix it until Monday but I think he's going to fix it now. And then we can buy more ice cream! I want chocolate and strawberry and also maybe the kind with fudge swirled in it.
And I just saw in Lestrade's post that he got the murderer so I hope he's coming home today, I'm going to tell John!

Sherlock, you may not like to hear it, but you are adorable, don't ever change. Not even when you grow up.
Oh and Lestrade's a good tosser, is he? Interesting.
Thanks, Sherlock. Don't get as much practice tossing as I used to though.
I'm sure we can get to your sports day though.
Yes, he can toss them all the way up to the ceiling! One got stuck once, that was funny.
If you want practice you should make more pancakes!!!!!!
Sherlock, are you still eating through the ice cream?
I'll tell John I need more tossing practice , see if he has a solution.
Becca, no, we ate a lot last night but we couldn't eat all of it and the rest melted, that's why we need more.
Lestrade are you coming home tonight? You said on your blog maybe late but if you are I want to stay up and wait.
No, Sherlock, I think it'll be tomorrow. I've got lots to do yet. And my knee's a bit knackered.
What are you doing with the murderer while you're waiting in a ditch? Is he all tied up?
Sherlock, if Lestrade's not coming home until tomorrow that gives you plenty of time to get ready. Like make a big banner saying
"WELCOME HOME LESTRADE"
And rig a bucket full of glitter above the front door.
He's handcuffed, sitting on the ground. He's also crying. Actually feel a bit sorry for him. (not for murdering people, but like I said, tragic story.)
Trills - remember who has the chore of hoovering up glitter and maybe suggest a welcome home that's less work for me?
Lestrade - I thought you only hovered the ceilings?
I think Spiderman does the ceilings... glitter and cooking are mine
Why is he crying? I didn't know murderers cried.
He's crying because he knows he's made a terrible mistake and ruined a lot if people's lives. Including his own. Lots of murderers cry when they're caught.
They don't cry on television. If it was a mistake does that mean he didn't meant to kill them?
He meant to kill them at the time, because he was very very angry, but now he realises what a terrible thing that was to do.
Being angry can often make people do things they wouldn't normally do, which they later regret.
Like when you punched that locker and hurt your hand?
Trills: Psst! We're switching to Greg! :D Because it's a cool name! ;D
Sherlock: Maybe you can make most of the banner inside and then have John watch you do the glitter outside?
Mycroft: You should totally be on 'Make Greg's Favourite Comfort Food' duty. I know you've missed him too.
John: You should let the boys guest blog again occasionally! XD I have to admit I'm kind of snickering about hearing you shouting without being loud. Did you turn your BAMF meter to 11 so the repair man would bend to your whims? I can see it now...
Exactly like that. Except moreso, if you've killed two people, obviously.
It's why we should try to wait and calm down before reacting to a situation.
Tink, I'm not switching to Greg, I like Lestrade, that's what we always call him. And his mum can't stop me either.
It's why we should try to wait and calm down before reacting to a situation.
You mean instead of me kicking people, don't you? Okay.
My dad once told me that jails are full of people who aren't criminals, people who only made terrible, terrible mistakes. But I don't know if he was thinking of murderers when he said that. :P
Sherlock, you're awesome. :D Since you don't have any aunts, would you like to be my adopted nephew? :D I'm a very good aunt. I don't think you can mummify a human corpse, but have you heard of Gunther von Hagens? He's a German artist and anatomist who found a way to preserve corpses, and he does exhibitions of them. It's very interesting, many of them are opened so you can see their organs and whatnot. This is his website: http://www.bodyworlds.com/
Aw Sherlock, you're adorable! I remember reading one time how much you loved shouting "GREG" to him ;)
It would indeed be better to calm down and not kick people. But we're all guilty of acting on impulse sometimes. Which doesn't make it right.
And it's perfectly fine to call me Lestrade, and you don't have to listen to my mum if she tells you different. She just doesn't like it because it's my dad's name, and he wasn't a nice person. But it's also my name, and I don't want to change it because the rest of his family were very important to me.
I think you would enjoy bodyworlds very much.
Anon, yes, he likes shouting it. At the top of his voice. But not saying it normally. You can't get nearly the same amount of persuasive whine into it as Leeeeeeeestraaaaaaaaaaaaaade, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaase. Whereas for yelling it's a good short shout with hard consonants at each end.
Lupe, okay, but I think I should ask Mummy first because then you'll kind of be her sister and she should know.
Anonymous, I still like that, but it wouldn't be as much fun if we called him that all the time, it would just be ordinary.
Lestrade, I'll look at it when we get home which will be soon I think. And I'm going to tell your mum she shouldn't not like your name just because of one person, that's silly. Lots of people are named Bob but you wouldn't start not liking all Bobs if one did something bad.
Sherlock, there was actually a person who donated his body to be mummified. The team followed all the procedures and did all the rituals and in the end they had a perfect mummy.
You can watch the special here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGxLAXP_ITc&feature=related
It's in six parts, but I think you'll really enjoy it! I know I found it absolutely fascinating!
Oh, and congratulations to Lestrade for catching his man!
Tink - this wasn't exactly an intentional guest blog, it was more like I left my laptop open and Sherlock wandered over and posted. They're welcome to, though, if they want to.
I just explained the situation to the repair man more clearly, that's all. People are usually more willing to help when they understand your point of view.
Lestrade would be really good at that one, he's a good tosser
...
John can shout without being loud
It's nice to have your true talents recognised, isn't it?
I just explained the situation to the repair man more clearly, that's all. People are usually more willing to help when they understand your point of view.
Uh huh. No shouting, I'm sure - being a doctor and an army officer you wouldn't need to would you? Fully trained in the fine art of Making It Clear What Will Be Done, No Questions, No Arguments without having to raise your voice :-)
Sherlock: I didn't mean you sweetheart, you're welcome to call him Lestrade all you want, as he said. But Greg is his first name, like Sherlock is yours, and so a bunch of us are now calling him Greg now that we know he doesn't mind! Also, I wanted to see Body Worlds so bad when it was in town! But I didn't get to go :( And if you're taking applications for honourary aunts, I want to get in line!
John: I figured as much, but it's still making me grin quite a bit. As for explaining your point of view to repair men, you have better luck at it than I do!
Pip, THAT IS AMAZING. I AM GOING TO WATCH IT LOTS. Herodotus is who we're reading to find out how to mummify Harvey, him and some German people.
Yay! OK. If your mother doesn't want to be my sister, tell her we can be distant cousins and you'd still be my nephew. ;) And of course, Mycroft's invited, too. :D
And John, you didn't scare the repair man to death, did you? I hope that he gets the job done quickly!
Can I just say that I "heard" "this is sherlock" in James Earl Jones's voice in my head when I read it? Like "this is CNN"
Sherlock, when you mummified Harvey, what did you put his different guts in? Is there a new fish to take Harvey's place? Do you have other animals in class?
Sherlock, Bob Brier, the man who mummified the cadaver, has several books out that I think you might like. In one of them he talks a lot more about the steps and what the mummification process was like.
Desert Wanderer, we put them in spice jars Mrs T brought us that we decorated, but there were only two because it was really hard to separate his guts. I had to do it mostly because everyone else thought it was icky.
We have other fish, Mathilda and Hermione and Arthur, and we have a guinea pig named Smudge. I don't know if we're getting another fish, but we should.
Pip, I will ask John for the books. In the programme, that man said that they never found mummies or anything in the pyramids so how do they know that's what they were really for?
I think that's a big question Egyptologists have been asking for a while, Sherlock. Part of the problem is that a lot of tombs were robbed and the mummies were destroyed, so even though the pyramids are thought to be tombs, we can't be positive.
Are there other things they think they could've been used for? Are you going to be an Egyptologist if you're not in the Army anymore?
A fish named Hemione and you scorn Harry Potter, Sherlock? (Don't mind my teasing. I only got three hours of sleep because I went to the midnight showing of the last movie and then had to get up for work.)
I'm curious as to whether Sherlock and Mycroft like any sort of fictional books. I'm glad that Lestrade's coming home. And I'm amused by John's shouting-without-volume and Lestrade's tossing skills....
Elizabeth, I didn't name Hermione, but she was named after the books. We picked numbers out of a bag to decide who got to name the fish, so the only one I named was Arthur.
I like true stories best but I like it when John reads to me even though the stories are stupid sometimes. But I might read that Egypt Game one.
Why did you name the fish Arthur, Sherlock?
Because of Arthur from Cabin Pressure.
Some people think the Pyramids were just big monuments built for the Pharaohs to honor them and to keep the people busy and in work. Others think they may have been places of worship.
Part of the problem is that the tombs are so big, and there are places in them we haven't explored yet. Isn't that exciting? To think that there are rooms in there that people haven't seen in thousands of years!
I did think about becoming an Egyptologist for a while, Sherlock. But unfortunately the universities around here don't offer the courses I need, and I couldn't afford to go to one out of my state. But that's all right, because I can still study and learn about it. I did study to become an anthropologist, though, which is a lot like an Egyptologist, only instead of focusing on Egypt, anthropologists study people and their cultures.
Ah, thank you. I must get around to listening to that one day, people keep telling me how good it is.
Sherlock you are adorable!
I must admit, as a teacher, that mummification sounds MUCH more exciting than a show. I haven't been to the pyramids but I have been to the Valley of the Kings - it was amazing! I fell in love with Egyptology when I was about 8 and I've been reading about it ever since! When we were in a tomb I was telling my mum about the paintings and things and when I turned around there were other people listening behind me!! Part of being a teacher I suppose.
Have you been to the British Museum? The Egypt section is amazing! Ask John and Greg (nicely) or maybe school could go? You are much closer than I am!!
I know exactly what voice John had... a combination of Nanny, Officer and Doctor - I am not surprised that your fridge is fixed! There is something called 'Teacher Voice'... it's sort of the same! I once told everyone (meaning pupils) to leave a corridor and the builder went out! Does Greg have the same thing - I would think that a DI must have a 'tone'!
Take care all of you!
Kira
xoxo
Sorry, everyone, I had to put the little Egyptologist to bed, but I'm sure he'll be back tomorrow.
He okay? Hope you get some rest. Can't wait to see you all.
He's fine, just very very excited you're coming home tomorrow. As am I. :)
I'm pretty sure none of you are as excited as me. Pretty much done here now. Not sure the station has ever been open this late before.
Heh. They'll never forget you.
Only 3 of us stayed...I think they'll be trying to forget me.
Landlady has taken pity on me, making me a sandwich. Fishing for gossip.
Never ever forget him XD
So happy everyone is now in a much better mood.
DW - Like "this is CNN"
I was imagining it more like "This...is...Spartaaaaaa!"
L - oh good. I was trying not to ask if you'd eaten yet. Are you supplying her with the gossip?
Tink - much better all around, yes. Tomorrow's going to be lovely.
No, no gossip. She knows both parties - everyone here does, really. That's what makes it even sadder.
Eaten a ham sandwich now.
I'll explain the case a bit in a post when I'm back.
Do you know what time you'll be able to get back tomorrow?
It'll take around 3 hours, so if I leave at 7ish, I'll be back for ten-ish. Might need to stop a few times, depends. Might be better just to get on the bike and blast all the way down in one and then call you to provide support and painkillers to get off the bike at your place.
All right. The knee must be pretty bad if you're actually admitting it hurts.
I'm certain nowhere in that did I admit it hurt ! :) but it might hurt to move it after three hours tucked up on the bike. It just stiffens up, that's all. Did it when I was writing up the paperwork, too.
The daughter of the dead couple hugged me when we told her we'd caught him. I feel like I've come here and turned this whole village on its head, and now I'm just leaving them to shake themselves down. It's a very odd feelng.
And not at all how i thought I'd get my first hug for days.
Yeah, I know it's got to be hard for everyone in a place that small, not just the victims' family. You solved it quickly though, and that's the most anyone could've done for them in these circumstances.
And not at all how i thought I'd get my first hug for days.
Doesn't surprise me at all. :)
Yeah. I suppose.
I'm going to get some sleep. I'll see you tomorrow.
Actually see you.
Good night, love. Sleep well.
You too. Hope Sherlock doesn't wake you too early.
Thanks for...caring, worrying, everything.
Shh. You don't have to thank me for that. Go on, sleep. I'll se you tomorrow.
Kira - Does Greg have the same thing - I would think that a DI must have a 'tone'
He definitely does. He doesn't use it much at home, but I've heard it a few times.
Just leaving. It's raining. I may get rather wet...again.
Is he home yet? We're all anxious to hear about the reunion!
(unless you're too indisposed to get to the computer in which case... carry on etc.)
I just came on to say yeah, got home a little bit ago. Weather was miserable so was slower going than I wanted.
Sherlock hasn't let go of me yet. No chance of getting up to anything with Danger.
You're all wonderful, there are simply no words. ♥
Glad you're home Lestrade :-)
Kira, why did you go to the Valley of the Kings and not the pyramids? Aren't they close together? I want to see both.
Pip, how can there be places they haven't seen, they've had years and years and YEARS! That's stupid, they should try harder. Anyway I don't see why you need degrees from schools to be an Egyptologist, you can just read and know lots of things. Mrs T said Heinrich Schliemann wasn't a proper archeologist but he found Troy and I think that counts a lot more than pieces of paper or classes.
