the world didn't end

We had only minor apocalypses during Sherlock's play, thankfully. He did very well, and we were very proud to watch him, especially the violin piece he played at the beginning. Lestrade also played very well, and we were proud of him as well...especially when he caught the goat.

The kings were following a star, you see, and by star I mean a spotlight with an inexplicably purple gel on it. The gel was positioned wrong, started to smoke...maybe some small flames. I went to turn it off while Mrs N dealt with panicky children. L insists the goat was coming right for me and he manfully wrestled it to the ground, and good thing too, since I was without my goat proof pants.

After a few tears and excited shrieks from the kids, things calmed down a little, and Mrs N got them back on track. They actually finished the play. I was impressed. Sherlock came up to me afterward and said, very proudly, 'None of that was my fault!'

And then there was cake. And later, mulled wine. It was very nice. Mrs H had some and measured me quite thoroughly for the jumper she's knitting. More thoroughly than I have every been measured before. And more unnecessarily too, since she took my measurements two weeks ago... She also showed us a corner of it. Seems to be mainly cream coloured with cables and some red bits. I don't think even L will be able to object!

de-lurking to say:
Congrats to Sherlock for a sucessfull play! And I hope there was a wide array of different cakes for everyone.
So the world didn't end even if there was a smoking star - bad luck for anyone who hasn't bought christmas presents yet...
Hope you got some more sleep.

Thanks for the review John it sounds like it was a performance not to be missed for lots of reasons ;-)

I hope you like your jumper when its made because that's the most important thing :-)

Tina - thanks, he's very pleased about it, and we're all quite pleased the world hasn't ended. :)

Anonybob - it was...truly amazing. In a lot of ways! And I am sure I'll like whatever Mrs Hudson comes up with. It looks warm, and that's the important thing.

You underestimate my powers of objection.

Of course, you don't have to take any notice...

I did think the flaming star was a signal for the end of the world. And did mention it...

I wondered what you and Mrs Hudson were laughing like loons about...

I'd be careful when objecting to this jumper L. You might find a combination of a nanny!glare and a Mrs H glare more than even you can cope with.

I survived Mrs N giving me a glare for giggling. Thought I might get put in the quiet corner to think about my actions...

Not my fault the flaming meteors of the apocalypse showed up in her nativity!

Mrs H must be a very fast knitter if she's still measuring with only a few days to go.

Did Mycroft like the mulled wine? I know Sherlock liked his juice better.

The world didn't end here, either. I did have some of the children asking me about it, but when I explained about the Mayan calendar ending and asked them what they did when their calendar ended, they all looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "we start a new calendar" and thus were reassured. I did have an older sibling accusing me of spoiling all his fun, though.

Rsf - the point is that she wasn't measuring him, just finding an excuse to wrap her arms around him. A lot. And it's the first jumper I've ever known to need an inside leg measurement...

*snerk* Maybe she's knitting him Christmas longjohns!

knitted goat-proof Christmas pants?

Greg Lestrade said...

I did suggest that, Nameless.

Can you knit with Kevlar or carbon fibre?

If you can weave with it, you can knit with it. Although I'm not sure how comfortable pants made of either of those would be.

Small price to pay for stopping a goat nibbling your gentleman's vegetables.

I'm sure there's something to be added to this about gentlemen's relish and gentleman's vegetables, but I'm too thick to work it out!

Hope you all have a good evening

I relish his gentleman's vegetables... Which I guess puts me on a par with a goat? (no kidding...)

Not sure I want to think about a gentleman's vegetables being bedecked with relish. Or mustard.

Jam, maybe.

Greg Lestrade said...

Jam? More of a chutney ferret myself...

There's a marmite joke in here somewhere...

Anonymous said...

Are marmots related to ferrets?

I hope Sherlock was as proud of his good report as of being blameless for the showtime chaos! :) (Both, of course, are entirely praiseworthy, but the good report took a far more sustained effort.)

I wish I could have seen the show, it sounds lovely (smoking star, goat-tackling, and all!) not to mention really wishing to have witnessed Sherlock's violin playing and dancing.

And I do hope we'll get a glimpse of Mrs Hudson's knitting, because it sounds like the jumper will be really very elegant and special. And well-fitted. :D
